    The another way I can be productive with my ADHD is getting hyperfocused on one thing & forget life. Forget meals, hygiene, socialization, entertainment, cleaning... everything. Until I pass out with exhaustion.

    I’ve started rewarding myself BEFORE I do the work because then I’m ‘topped up’ energetically and inspirationally, so can focus, and already know what I’m working for.
    Waiting for the pay off ‘at the end’ just doesn’t work for me. I can’t visualise it ever happening. Whereas if I rest and play first, and then work, I’ve already gotten the pay off, and am inspired to do.
    3 days into working this way, and so far it’s a huge difference. : D

    Loved the note with "*get up, *exist, *sleep" made me laugh.
    I've had many times in my life where that was the list i had ( just in my head ) so far and since I've started on meds (vyvanse, only recently diagnosed aswell) im getting back to doing stuff that needs doing and having the motivation to do what i need to get done . Im hoping ill keep going well on this path. Im just grateful for every day i have motivation and a better outlook . (Suffered with chronic anxiety and depression for 9 years now since was diagnosed with that and had some really long periods of feeling really really down where i was close to "checking out") anyway sorry for the long comment .

      I was worried this video might be too "basic" or "strange" for exactly this reason... But neurotypicals share their advice with us all the time and it famously doesn't work anyway. So who cares? We deserve to do things our way without shame or judgement - what matters is it works for us and our mental health is preserved. ☺️
      Wishing you a lovely day!

      Thank you so much for your sweet comment and thank you for being such a good grandmother and researching for your granddaughter! You are amazing!
      I have tried mindfulness and meditation for a long time, but it is incredibly hard (in my experience) to use them in the way that others do. Walking meditations, music, and other such mindfulness activities that involve moving your body seem to be much more helpful. Trying to stay in one place and think can actually backfire for quite a few ADHD individuals. I would definitely experiment with a few different practices!
      I wish you and your family all the best!

    the problem is, getting a reward that has no value at all from some silly little app does nothing for me. that is my issue. the reward must be meaningful or novel for it to even have the possibility to create motivation. problem with that is there really isint anything external that is a meaningful reward anymore.

    • @cloudmastr8105
      @cloudmastr8105 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +24

      This is me. Like. Either the thing is rewarding to do, or it isn’t. No little pre-planned reward or app ding will change that. That’s just extra steps, and I could have that cookie literally any time I want. So it’s not intrinsically linked to the task, so it doesn’t change how rewarding the task is.

      Been there, and for me, that was clinical depression. With ADHD, co-morbidities can get confusing. I still don’t really have an easy answer, but have found on good days I can mostly do things with the minimal rewards suggested here, and on almost-bad days, what I’m watching (or hopefully listening to a podcast or audiobook or something) I just take with me. On bad days, I just make it a point to watch something similar to this, and set my expectations low to do just one minimal task, but also remember not to beat myself up if I still don’t actually do it, because there’s not really any way that’s helpful, at least not for me.

    4. "Use ur environment as much as possible" (changing our state) - music dance, "change the place", showers.

      I really feel you. I’m combined presentation but have recently had a really, really bad phase of this…when you can’t do things you need to, it’s one thing, but when you can’t do things you WANT to do? It’s torture. But I’d got to a place of not even wanting to…was so overwhelmed that I was sleeping most of the day, I’d get up, have some coffee, and just had to lie down again. It was full-on ADHD depression, and I have severe dissociative complex-PTSD which was getting worse, both compounding each other. Not going to even say how bad it got but it brought it home that the way my ADHD has been making it hard to sort out the treatment for it is no joke and I have to act while I’m more able to function (be productive? No. But…not that). My diagnosis history is absurd…the uk is waaay behind…it’s been 3 years now but…another post! I wish you so much love and it sounds like you’re not on meds either, and, well, I know they made a world of difference to me the first time, for the very v brief time I was on them. I’d only just got to the top dose of Elvanse (European Vyvanse) when the doctor sacked me. Had paid nearly £10,000. Long story! Anyway - this brain needs meds! X

    ADHD is a terrible condition. Here are some hacks that work for a few days for me (from time to time):
    1. POMODORO app - tick - tick - tick - tick … WHILE WORKING
    2. LOUD WHITE NOISE (test lot of noises, some will work)
    3. NEVER STOP: work - fun - work - fun - work - fun … ♾
    4. EASY TASKS FIRST (like in a video game, level-up, not down)
    5. have more workplaces and SWITCH them often
    6. turn exercise into fun and have this FUN as often as possible
    7. OVERDOSE WITH B3 VITAMINS (250mg 5 times / day) it may work as a placebo too
    8. no processed food, no pastry, drink water only, sugar just as a WHOLE fruit
    9. rebuild your second brain (notion.so) OFTEN
    10. DELETE files and THROW stuff OUT
    11. use incense sticks, candles, scents ... to calm your senses
    12. try cold shower and only then enjoy warm shower ... as a reward for that torture (cold shower = dopamine)
    13. have small note papers EVERYWHERE and write NOTES immediately when you need to store any important information
    14. stick to intermitent fasting (in order to avoid frequent eating - get dopamine from exercise instead from frequent eating!)
    15. the only real TIME is NOW (forget “past” and forget “future” - these are just an artificial constructs)

    Finally something that helps, I am currently watching my online class running a timer in the background to see how long it takes to do things and when I write my questions I play videos on youtube or watch anime and I pause it while solving it. It gets my things done. A lot of people on the internet just say that don't multitask, but if I stopped doing it this way it ultimately leads to my complete shutdown and so I stopped listening to them. This is actually seems like a good advice to me. Resistance leads to disappointment.
    I could get bored of a game in like a day. I delete them as fast as I install them unless they have an engaging story and on that case I'd finish it the same day or the next. I'd never understand people who play candy crush more than a month, the most I'd last is 5 days.

    • @Dragor33-rg7xj
      @Dragor33-rg7xj 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Its probably because we trick our brain into thinking the reward for this boring action is equal to this fun activity, but in reality they are not equal. Multitasking problem isn't that simple.
      After you did this though, can you get back to doing boring activity ONLY, without associating with other fun activity? Because if you can't it might lead to the problem of spiral up higher engagement reward, from multitasking 1 activity, now 2 activity, then 3 activity (doing fun activity repetively make us crave more because it take more for us to be satisfied, why gaming is associated with addictive tendencies ADHD) and its obviously making you spending more energy than before.
      Here is another situation you have to consider, what happen when you cant have access to fun activity? Its like you are an online game and need constant connection to internet. Interview, doing chores, countryside, disaster happen and no connection, school exam... these are places or situations you encounters in your everyday, with no access to fun activity at all. You have to do more or do something if not you will die, but your brain isn't stimulate enough to even drink water BECAUSE THE ACTION OF DRINKING WATER IS NOT FUN?
      I'm not telling your method is wrong completely, but a balanced approach is the key.

    • @Vinaya999
      @Vinaya999 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Dragor33-rg7xj Yeah I totally get you. And thank you for pointing that out. Totally switching from one habit to another is very difficult for me. The problem is I fall asleep while writing my notes so I keep any anime playing in the background especially in dubs so I get my work done without being bothered by other thoughts or being pumped by the voice of the character or music so I don't fall asleep. And when I am having a problem solving case I stop whatever music or anime I have in my background and read the question trying to find a solution and play it back on while solving. It helps me from overthinking and getting distracted. I have no problem with brushing my teeth without any media(a certain math or physics problem is enough to keep me occupied) because my biggest motivation is not having to do a root canal again. Like I used to carry my mobile to the bathroom but I don't do that anymore. I try to build it into my system. I kind of can do that work without the fun activity but it's hard and I am slowly building a habit of it being ok.
      Another success I had recently is building a habit of exercising I don't know how long I can maintain it. But the key is finding something new to keep me motivated.
      I used to need the aid of constant media to get any work done but after having some time with my dog or cat my mind calms down a bit or has a lot of stimuli. I want to move out of my home next year for college I am very concerned about how I will manage there. I stopped playing games sticking to one source of entertainment which includes longer anime(s) is good even TH-cam is too much stimulating for me.

    Things that stood out: 1. Dopamine crisis, this is something solid that you can tell doubters to explain. I like that phrase. 2. Gamify is a great tip, I tend to do this anyway and even the act of coming up with a game can be exciting. 3. I like that you give permission to make things fun, it’s hard not to feel guilty. This made me realize how boring my house is… it needs some attention!

    I started playing minesweeper at work when I have to make phone calls. While it's reading, I play. When someone answers or I have to leave a voicemail, I pause. Now I almost look forward to making calls. Almost.

    When I was young I remember my mom telling me, "Life is not just about having fun?". Well, my ADHD brain says otherwise.

    Meh. What time is the next commitment? Adding the time it takes for each requirement, multiply the sum by a random delay factor to be there, sutract that time from the obligatory time. That technique tells you when to begin the day and boom you're there. Until then ADHD allows us to contemplate what lies beyond the maw at the beginning of the end of one's life.
    Timers and preset alarms do help.

      I have tons of fidget stuff but I can’t dig it out fast enough in the heat of the moment. When something makes me anxious and stressed on the spot, I either scratch my phone (it has a scratchy sticker) or use my fidget jewellery 😁

    I hate to say it but as helpful as this video is meant to be and should be for me unfortunately it just overwhelmed me and was a bit t oo much overload. It did more to confuse and overwhelm me more than anything. Interesting concepts though... 🤔

    And an insight: Following the stream (3:03) seems really, really boring; turning around can be a (rather problematic) source of both excitement and exhaustion.
    Most of the time, however, it feels like swimming in an ocean, drifting between countless islands, constantly re-drawing the map.
