    I got one nice 8 pointer during bow the last weekend of September. It was my first with the crossbow. He was coming off a food source into cover. Then during the second day of gun hunting I shot an older 8 pointer that was the biggest one I ever shot. Really thick antlers. Love your videos.

    It's my 1st year deer hunting, I've only gotten 1 deer so far. It's a great first deer for myself & my custom rifle build. He was a 10 point. Almost has 11 but that last point isn't but 3/16" long. I don't think it counts technically? It's actually only deer I've shot this year. I was hoping to fill my doe tags too. Still have little bit of time. Unfortunately I don't have many places to hunt. 2 properties I need to be invited. Other is inlaws property which I can go whenever but it's gotten hammered really hard by their kids & family. So deer went completely nocturnal there. If deer do go nocturnal which would be better to try get a doe late season, morning or evening?? Thanks

    This was my 1st year deer hunting here in SC. I haven't done that well as for filing the freezer. I did get a good sized 10 point buck. But that's it. I had a opportunity to shoot a doe. I passed she was very skinny & had a small fawn with her. Besides that I've been getting skunked. I'm mostly hunt my inlaws property. They have 140 acres but there's couple family members who hunt it pretty hard. 2 of them were hitting the woods 3-4 times a week for first couple months deer season started. There's ton of tracks & proof of activity but it seems like they went completely nocturnal. I think it got to much pressure. Not much I can do about it it's not my property or in my control. My only other option is find a hunting club or get permition to other property & public . I'd rather stay away from public if I can help it.

    I just started hunting deer this year. I have permission to hunt a 120 acre lot that only couple other people do as well. At moment I'm using their stands or staying on ground. 2 of other people were both hitting woods together 4-5 times a week at begging of season. It's starts mid August here. I've been going 1 or 2 days a week. I think they were hitting it to hard for 2 long. I see ton of tracks & signs but they have to be middle of day or after dark. One guy has cameras & he mostly catches them at night. Do they go nocturnal because of pressure? Luckily there's a huge section everyone has been ignoring. Which is are I am gonna go rest of season. I haven't seen any deer mornings or evenings at thier stands in weeks!

    Was wondering how to clear off a spot for food plot. I have a somewhat open area. It has a lot of brush in it though. Like hazelnut and stuff. Just wondering how someone would go about killing that off?

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I've done everything from flush cutting and then continually trimming any new grown to pulling out things like buckthorn with my truck. Anything you can do to get them out there will work. I have stumps in my food plots, I just plant around them, no big deal if that's the route you go.

  • @TheFishingHuntingStore
    @TheFishingHuntingStore 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Hello Ken, What would you suggest for a starter for areas like Middleton and Verona WI? We will be doing some clearing in a week your guidance would be appreciated thank you

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      You have enough farm fields in that area to get away with doing brassicas blend on half of your plots and peas/beans/oats on the other half. This will ensure you have one crop popping throughout the season that makes sure the deer continue coming to them. Those things don't get planted until early to mid August so use the next few months to get the area cleared and as weed free as possible by then. There's a few ways to do that from spraying, to continually tilling the dormant seeds to the surface, to planting a cover crop like buckwheat. I have other videos on my channel on how to do all of that.

    Roundup is toxic and is known as a gender bending chemical. I would not want to eat deer that ate that

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Unfortunately a deer that lives anywhere near a farm field has already eaten plants that were sprayed. If I use chemicals, they're not sprayed on the plants and the plants don't germinate until after the halflife of the chemicals.

    Thank for the video, lots of information. I have about 18 - 22 acres with 5 of it swamp/wetland. How do you work with wetland, do you have a video on that? I can see trails with deer using the wetland, but I never see bucks on my property until at night.

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Deer are often times pushed to wetlands in more developed areas because those areas aren't developed by humans. The other thing wetlands usually have is browse close to the ground for the deer so they'll treat it as a food source. They will not bed down in it unless it's frozen though but if you have a couple small dry islands in it, they'll probably bed there. As far as developing wetlands, there's not much I do to them other than clone thing like red osier dogwood in them to thicken them up more if they aren't already.

  • @JP_BowHunter
    @JP_BowHunter 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    How do you deal with no rain in the fall? For the last few years, the rain has turned off in August, so the plots die. That is why I am thinking of going with a clover-chickery perennial plot to plant once.

    • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I've started planted earlier and earlier. I start watching the 10 day forecast in late July and if I see a big rain event coming (2-3 days of forecasted rain) I make sure to plant. The bigger seeds like peas and beans need a lot of water to germinate. Once they germinate, small amounts of precipitation can keep them alive if you're not in an outright drought.

      Slicker cloth or a garbage bag Be aware of scents that may be off gassing. You can use wax paper or just hunker down over your bow or rifle and spread your coat out over it. It usually doesn’t rain continuously and if it is you really shouldn’t even be out there.

      I have corn, beans, and hay fields near me as well as neighbors who plant clover food plots. I have half of the plot planted in brassicas and the other half planted in peas/beans/oats/rye. • @HobbyHarvest
      @HobbyHarvest หลายเดือนก่อน

      Anything that is still green and lush during the fall is ideal. Some years that's more difficult to obtain than others. But when all of the other food sources the deer rely on are deteriorating quickly heading into fall, you want to have the young, lush, green food plot that was late planted so the plants are still young and tender.

    Every hunter has a different thing to say. It's always hilarious when this time of the hunting season comes around. The "experts" come out and say when the rut is or when the rut is not. There are a few facts that can help folks get through all this. The gestation period for whitetail deer is approximately 200 days. Factors like the weather temps, moon phase, and population density all have impact on the rut timing. However, the rut is a monthly cycle for deer in North America, white tail deer in particular.
