Unveiling my Fall TBR: Thrilling Reads You Can't Miss
you got some bricks on your list this month!☺️ Someone just mentioned they think I will enjoy Vanessa Riley’s books and I have them! I need to push one of them to the top. I need a short Christmas romance right about now. Can’t wait to get into You Make It Feel Like Christmas 🎄 🤗 The Search of a Prince is such a beautiful cover! 😍 If I like the Christmas book i’ll definitely have to check that one out.
I would say Sister Mother Warrior is her best HF work. She writes historical romances and mysteries too!
I'm wating on my library hold for What the River Knows. It sounds so good! Caste is amazing - I actually liked it better than Warmth of Other Suns because I geek out with all the social science, data, research, etc.
Yea I heard there’s less narrative in Caste and I’m excited for the format! Let me know your thoughts on What The River Knows!
Caste was great! It should be mandatory reading for school. I felt like it was a quick read because the subject matter was so engaging. I love Vanessa Riley's books. I read Sister Mother Warrior & loved all the Haitian history. I finished Island Queen recently. It was good.
Yesss! Wilkerson is an amazing journalist! I’m excited for Caste! I’ve just started Island Queen 💕
You have quite the list for the end of the year 😂 but you can get through them all! Caste was really good so I hope you enjoy it. And now I guess I need to read the Warmth of Other Suns because I’m now intrigued. Hope you enjoy everything on your TBR 💜💜
I know! Doubt I’ll get to em all but I’m shooting for the moon! I’m anticipating that I’ll love Caste! Highly recommend Warmth! It took me a year to read but it was worth every second.
I hope these all work out for you to finish out the reading year.
I’m hoping so too! 😊
Happy to hear you loved the Signe Pike series! I have it but I’d never heard anyone talking about it. I really want to finally read Caste in 2025.
It’s really good historical fiction. A bit slow but in the best way! I wanna do a book review or series review so badly!
love this!
😊
Great recommendations. Your way of describing the books definitely leaves me wanting to learn about each of these times in history.
I'm glad! I love learning about history through fiction as you can see :)
I will also be reading the farming of bones. Thank you for the recommendation, and blessings to you and your family sister. 🙏🏾🦋
I hope you enjoy it! Blessings to you and yours!
Thank you very much for the recommendations ! I LOVE historical fictions and even more when it's cultrally diverse ❤
Yay! I hope you enjoy them! 😊
My best friend is Haitian so The first 2 books, I will put on my TBR.
Yes, also recommend The Farming of Bones by Edwidge Danticat!
I enjoyed Something Good also!
So good! I read her newest release and enjoyed it! 😊
I am currently reading all that we were promised by Ashton Lattimore because you recommended it. Now I have added the farming of bones to my TBR. I just saw that it's free on audible. SO, I will listen to it this month for sure. Thanks!
All We Were Promised was so good! It was an anticipated release for me and I adored it! I hope you enjoy it too. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Farming of Bones!
Wow, what a great variety of cultures featured in all these reads! It's like vacationing all summer without leaving your home. 👍
Wow! I never thought of it like that but you’re right! I’m happy you enjoyed it!
Sounds like a strong bunch of books for the summer. I've read a few of Edwidge Danticat's books, but not Farming of Bones. You've also convinced me to put Next Year in Havana on my tbr. The best book I read for the summer was likely Savage Season by Joe R. Lansdale.
It was great! I hope you enjoy Farming of Bones and Next Year in Havana when you get to them. 😊 never heard of Savage Season. If it’s not too scary, I may give it a try
@@gabbylikestoread Savage Season isn't scary, but it is a tense and sometimes violent crime story. I have a video about it.
Love your book reviews! New subscriber!
Hi! So glad you enjoy them! 😊 Welcome!
Thank you for making this!!! For the sisters book, would you say it would help to have a context about the Haitian revolution before hand? I know bullet points but not details😅 Also I’m super excited to find another Gabby who also likes to read🥰
Hi!! Gabby is a wonderful name 😍 I don’t think you need to know anything about the revolution beforehand. I didn’t know much about it except for a few names prior to reading it and learned A LOT!
@gabbylikestoread Thank you so much!! I did some research and kweli TV has a great documentary on the Hatian revolution. Its a black owned streaming service that I love, so watching that helped a lot☺
Kenneth Roberts (Colonial American history)Colleen McCullough (Rome Series) are my favorite. Roberts even did a book on what it was like to be a Loyalist during the American Revolution.
Oooo these time periods sound interesting! Thanks for sharing!
Sister Mother Warrior…I couldn’t make it past the 2nd chapter 😩
Oh no! What made you stop reading it?
@@gabbylikestoread I’m not sure if it moved slow or I wasn’t in the right head space
I love Sula
I definitely enjoyed Sula! I definitely makes you question things. You don't leave that book the same person you were.
I love a historical fiction! I'm trying not to buy anymore books right now, but... Then I found your channel lol
lol i know right. the never ending TBR. You can always utilize the library too. :)
Thanks for all the great recommendations. I loved Mark Sullivan's "Beneath a Scarlet Sky," and I didn't realize he had any other books out.
I keep hearing about Beneath a Scarlet Sky! I guess I gotta pick that one up!
Thanks for the recs! One YA historical fiction I just finished and quite enjoyed was I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys. If you haven't read that yet, I definitely recommend. It's about the 1989 Romanian revolution, which I knew nothing about until this book.
I’ve never read a Rita Septys book and I’ve heard good things about I Must Betray You and Salt of the Sea! Thanks for the recommendation! I need to get to these
YES YES YES🤩🤩 I NEED more people to read Sister Mother Warrior!
Yes everyone needs to read it!
I’m currently reading Island Queen now ( so good) and Sister Mother Warrior and Queen of Exiles are a in my TBR stack. The covers are also stunning … I purchased them in Hardcover to keep in my collection and in soft copies to read. 😊 And the Davenports is just 5 stars ⭐️ can’t wait for the sequel.
That’s the last book in the Caribbean Royalty set that I need to read! I love the covers too! I’m reading the eARC of More than this right now 😍
Historically fiction is my favorite genre.Thx for introducing me to new reads!
Me too! You’re welcome!
Sister Mother Warrior was a great book. Sent me down a rabbit hole looking into Haitian history.
I can see why! So much about it we don’t know!
6:13 Sister, mother warrior, Island queen and queen of exiles are among my 4/5 star rated books! I am an absolute fan of the author.😊 I had started reading the last rose of Shanghai and stopped. I am glad you mentioned it because I re- added it to my TBR.😊 Great video!
Yasss! Vanessa Riley is great! I hope you enjoyed The Last Rose when you get to it.
I’ve had Next Year in Havana on my tbr along with another one of Chanel Cleetons books for quite some time. I’m glad to hear you recommend her book. I might need to get to this one sooner than later.
Let me know when you do 😊
You have such a unique taste in books. I Love it.
Oh thank you!
Such a variety of times and places, your recommendations added some titles to my TBR. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so glad! Hope you enjoy them!
This is my type of video! I love historical fiction, though I haven't read that much recently. I haven't heard of many on your list, which is exciting. I also read The Last Green Valley and thought it was excellent. Really want to pick up his more popular novel Beneath a Scarlet Sky
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’m looking forward to doing more recommendation videos in the future. Gotta check out Beneath a Scarlet Sky now!
What a fun tbr game! 🥰
Thank you 🤗
Recently finished Homegoing and it was a 5 ⭐️ for me. Hope you enjoy.
Getting me more and more excited to read it!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
About Black Sun - balling their eyes out had me chuckling, because of how the first book starts (which isn't funny at all, just very topical... you'll see 😅) Great TBR for October, Gabby! 😜 Have a fantastic August! 💖🌸
Oh man! What did get I myself into with Black Sun lol 😂
This is a good TBR for the month. I think you’re really going to love Homegoing! You can def read 7 books. You got this!
Thanks Robin! I hope I love it! And let’s hope I can read em all!
I love your TBR game. So many great books on your Aug list.
Thank you it’s a fun game and I’m excited about the books on my list.
Just finished Brotherless Night a couple weeks ago and am glad I read it . Haven’t read Homegoing , but I read Transcendent Kingdom and thought it was excellent. Read The Book Thief years ago and still remember it , which doesn’t happen w me unless it’s good . 📖🪱💚
Brotherless Night is a good but painful book. A lot of sadness and tragedy. Yaa Gyasi seems to be a crowd favorite!
Homegoing will mark you like no other book. I have yet to meet anyone who has said a negative comment/review on the book.
The expectations are high for Homegoing!
That is an impressive reading list for the month. I'm reading some "trash" books for GarbAugust while also continuing with my box of paperbacks project.
Yea let’s see if i actually get around to them. Lol Ooo paperbacks are the best!
Great TBR! I loved The Book Thief, and the audiobook was really good! I’m hoping to read Homegoing before the year ends, so I look forward to hearing your thoughts if you get to that one! For August I’m hoping to read Stone Blind, Love and Other Words, Parable of the Talents, Pachinko (curious about your thoughts on that one haha), and currently working through Oathbringer 😊
Love your eclectic selection this month… yeahhhh I’m looking forward to sharing my opinions on Pachinko too. Hopefully no one gets too upset! Lol
I discovered your channel through this video. Happy Birthday & Happy Reading! 😎📚👍
Thank you so much! I hope you having a great reading year!
So brave of you to start wheel of time 😂 because 14 books…whew! An Inconvenient Cop sounds like an interesting read so I’m definitely adding it to a TBR
5 stars to The Beautiful Ones 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Yesss! Thanks for recommending it! I adored it! Definitely going to read more SMG and just stay away from her horror stuff lol
Yup.. I feel like me and the person I’m buddy reading it with are kinda having buyers remorse lol
I love Their Eyes Were Watching God. It’s one of my fav classics. I agree with you about the romance in Robert Jordan’s books. It’s not done well and seems forced to me. I also get annoyed by the characters constant critiques about the opposite sex. I’m more interested in the world but have been finding hard to move beyond book 5. Hope it goes better for you.
I can see why you love Their Eyes were watching God! Yea Robert Jordan writes is not a good romance writer at all. Kinda wish it wasn’t in there lol
The House of Plain Truth is so intriguing. Also happy birthday month!!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎂🥳
Right! I’m excited for this one! And thank you!
The Townsend Family Recipe For Disaster was so good! I finished it this weekend. I couldn't put it down. I'm hoping hoping Shauna writes a romance next (a light romance).
Oh yay! I feel like she’d be a great romance author. I liked the romantic subplot in Must Love Books. It was fade to black 🙌🏾
Pachinko was unforgettable! I hope you enjoy! 😀
Ohhhh man can’t wait to share my thoughts on this one!
