You should check out some of Chen's studio recording sessions. There are a few of them on his own channel and a few of them scattered around TH-cam. They shouldn't be too hard to find. Even if you decide not to react to them they are worth watching. His voice is amazing.

This is great! I’ve never seen someone commenting on the recordings. But having clips of the recordings is rare. I’ve only seen EXO do this twice. You really nailed the vocalists. The first singer, Chen, has a powerful voice, which might be why he stands so far back. If you watch Killing Voice (which you definitely should!) he does the same thing. The one you thought was the least something, is the maknae (youngest) of the group, and does have the least experience. I’m always surprised when Sehun does sing. He’s more known for his rap and dance. I know the three main singers still take vocal lessons. And Kai, the dapper dresser IS a lover of fashion. He showed his closet at home, and it’s huge. With even a separate room for slacks. He’s also been the representative of major fashion brands. As have most of the vocalists. The maknae, Sehun, does a lot of fashion shows, also. And they have ALL been featured in major Korean magazines; and have done commercials for all kinds of products. And you really should see Killing Voice. It’s done a capella, and in one take! But you can hear each one as they go through a medley of songs.

This is my second time watching the documentary, and i can say some stuff that seems confusing now will make sense later. While this was a hard watch, just because you feel for each girl, i do think Simon overall did a really good job of ensuring these girls were tough mentally and physically, and made sure they wanted this life for them, it was their true dream. Because being an idol isn't easy, especially if you wanna be one of the best. You need that passion and extra gear that you see in other professional settings and sports if you truly want to succeed. I do agree with your western mentally statment, we do things differently, so to us, this seems cruel or harsh, but to them, it prob wasn't nearly as bad as we imagine. Simon really nails the tough love aspect imo. As always, love your content and your input. Hope you're living well, brother.

I really appreciate your take on this situation. It's the most thoughtful opinion I've heard so far without mocking the person or speculation. Ben Hart Aka Bboy Benihana-- the 66yo breaker did a deep dive break down on Raygun through official qualifying competition videos and dispelled some rumors about her merits for her spot in the Olympics. He found that Raygun did qualify for the Olympics on technicality by a very tight margin against her competition but oddly, as he pointed out, she qualified in the traditional sense where she didn't attempt any overt artistic expression that she performed in the Olympics round robin. It showed her sets, although not on a high level, were legit breaking and Ben was baffled why she didn't use those routines instead of the routines used during the Olympics. He did point out that her skills are on the level of a hobbyist and not someone who spent her life day and night training for competitive breaking. He recognized that it was her background as a trained dancer that did give her an advantage when it came to composition but at the same time most likely hindered her as a breaker. Check out "The Truth About the Rachael Gunn Scandal" on his YT channel if you haven't seen it yet. It's a very fair assessment and analysis of her validity for being able to be in this competition. His perspective is very similar to yours but from someone who actually trains for competition and also who started doing this much later in his life compared to Raygun which is why he sympathizes.

Hope you're living well, friend! XGs tour has been doing really well. Korea is definitely their smallest market, though it seems to be growing more and more. The 4 shows they did in Japan at the start of the world tour sold around 60-70k tickets. All of the other asian shows have been 6-16k seats, with korea only being 1.3k or so. So it kinda shows the diffeence. The craziest part is China seems to love them. All 4 of their shows in china sold out in 1-5 seconds, with 2-8x more people trying to get tickets than were available.

I also thought they don't have a lot of fans in Korea too, but I saw a vlogger that went to their concert, and a lot of them were shouting, cheering, and singing along with them. I was surprised. i just recently went to their concert too, I saw them singing live, it was my first idol concert experience and it blow my mind and at the same time i feel exhausted because they are really dancing and singing at the same time... like wow!!!
