Spira Knives
Germany
My name is Tim and I'm a 24 year old molecular medicine student. I got into knifemaking about six years ago, by watching videos similar to this one. I gained almost all my knowledge by watching TH-cam videos, so now I want to give something back. If you’ve got a question, feel free to write me a comment or start a conversation with me via my Instagram @spira_knives
Making a Damascus Knife for PietSmiet Kocht | Part 2: Finishing the knife
Welcome back to a new video!
This is the second of two parts showing how I made the 250 layer damascus kitchen knife for Peter from the TH-camr group PietSmiet. In this video I'm showing you how I finished the knife, from grinding, to heat treating and of course making the handle. I decided to make a voiceover again to explain the process but I will also make a single video containing all of the making-process without any commentary.
Please tell me what you think about this video and where I can improve.
As always - if you've got any questions, ask them! I'm always happy to help out other people as I gained most of my knowledge from TH-cam and asking many questions to professionals.

About me: My name is Tim and I'm a 24 year-old student. I got into knifemaking about six years ago, by watching videos similar to this one. Over the years, I gained some knowledge and last year I built this belt grinder to finally make my own knives. I do sell custom orders, most kitchen knives, if you're interested, follow me on Instagram. My goal is to make inspirational and educating, as well as entertaining videos. I gained almost all my knowledge by watching TH-cam videos, so now I want to give something back. Making a Damascus Knife for PietSmiet Kocht | Part 1: Forging the blade
Welcome back to a new video! This is the first of two parts showing how I made the 250 layer damascus kitchen knife for Peter from the TH-camr group PietSmiet. In this video I'm showing you all of the forging process, from a bunch of steel pieces to the damascus blade. The second video will feature all of the rest, from grinding and hardening the knife to making the handle. I decided to make a ...
Regrinding My Schmiedeglut Forging-Class Kitchen Knife | Why I Never Used It
Welcome back to a new video! In this little project, I finally reground a knife that I had for almost 5 years and haven't used once. I forged this knife at a damascus-forging class at Schmiedeglut in Germany, when I just started making my first knives. As I mentioned in the video, there were several reasons why this knife never made it into my kitchen, but it was also sad to see it catching dus...
Long time no see! After over a year abscence, I decided to upload a new video again. The reason why I've been so quiet is not that I quit knifemaking, I just didn't have the time to record and edit videos. But here I am, showing you the making of my biggest knife yet with a new editing style as well. I tried to shorten the video significantly to only show the most importnt and interesting steps...
Charity Raffle: Making a Canister Damascus Hunting Knife | Collab with Tyrell Knifeworks
Long time no see! I’ve finally had the time to finish a new video - from a long overdue project. Denis Tyrell from Tyrell Knifeworks ( th-cam.com/video/Si58yvY9Y-8/w-d-xo.html ) sent me this piece of canister Damascus to make a knife with. I chose to make a hunting knife with a stabilized black palmira handle. CHARITY RAFFLE: My plan is to make a charity raffle for this knife. I still have to c...
From Trash to Treasure | Making Kitchen Knives Out Of Broken Blades
Thanks for tuning in again! This was the last build I made in 2020 and I finished it last minute on December 31. I forged out a nice Nakiri out of 52100 but it cracked too deep to be easily ground out. I still didn’t want to throw the blade away so I decided to make a medium-sized Gyuto out of it which I think turned out beautiful! While I was working on the knife, I remembered that I had a Dam...
Forging a Nakiri Kitchen Knife | PeacefulBuilds #1
Hello and welcome back to a new video in the new year! This might be the start of a new series I’m calling „peaceful builds“ at the moment. My idea was to make a relaxing video with a peaceful atmosphere and acoustic music. The goal also is to upload shorter builds under 10 minutes, which is a bit challenging for me since it’s still hard to decide, which parts are unnecessary. If you want to he...
Restorating an Old Rusty Leg Vise!
Hi everyone and welcome back to a new video! I couldn’t resist picking up this medium-sized leg vise from a local farm. It was of course pretty dirty and rusty, but I had a ton of fun cleaning this tool up! I really needed a proper rigid vise inside my shop and my new homemade workbench was the perfect place for it to stay. I just love how simple all these old tools were made, makes it easy to ...
Making a Custom Damascus Kitchen Knife | Knifemaking | Beautiful Steel from Sperber Knives
Hi everyone and welcome back to a new video! I had a ton of fun making this special custom ordered kitchen knife and I'm happy to bring you along with this build! The customer wanted a dark Damascus blade with a completely black handle. I took this opportunity to use African Blackwood for the first time in my life, combined with a deep black G10 spacer. This knife is by far the best one I made ...
My 200$ Homemade 2x72 Beltgrinder | How I built it & Upgrade 2.0
Welcome to my first video of me talking in front of the camera. This is a bit "out of the comfort zone" for me as I don't feel very confident about my english yet. But I want to improve and learn, so any help is appreciated! I've always wanted to show you my DIY beltgrinder that I made a few years ago. I've been using it as an attachement for my woodworking lathe but the motor has been too weak...

Welcome back to my channel! This video is a special one! This pirate style chefs knife was made in collaboration with my dear friend Sperber Knives. Making a Filleting knife
Welcome back to my channel! I've got the opportunity to work together with a local butcher who is selling premium meat. And what do you need when selling the best of the best meat? A proper knife of course! Thats why I made a Fillet Knife as well as a Carving knife ( stay tuned for this video). I've never made a knife like this before, but it was a lot of fun and I really like how it came out! ...
Can you forge SAN MAI with MILD STEEL?? | Handforged Kitchen Knife
Welcome back to my channel! Since I've got my anvil I've been wanting to forge SanMai. Now I finally got my borax, which is pretty hard to get here in Germany. As a first test, I used cheap steels (mild steel and 1075) to give this new project a try. It was so much fun, that I'll defiinitely make more of these blades! But in the future, I'll use 75Ni8 and O1 Tool steel, a popular damascus combi...
Forging a Hidden Tang Chefs Knife
Welcome back to my channel! Making kitchen knives is my favorite part in knifemaking. I really enjoy using them and trying to improve with every single one I make. This handforged knife was made in cooperation with a chef cook, who told me exactly what‘s important in the everyday use. I forged the knife out of 80CrV2 steel and made a octagonal hidden tang handle with mahaghony, walnut and a sil...
