    The best thing you can do in this situation is do not panic Do not try to paddle in because you're going to exhaust all of your energy and instead let that undertow and that current take you out and eventually it will spit you down the line outside of the main break and that's when you use your reserve energy to try to get in.

    ego lifting is a disaster waiting to happen.. a friend of mine ego lifted weights far beyond his capabilities at the time and he snapped his bicep in half... it sounded like a gunshot from point blank, its honorable and respectable to test your limits but do not over do it

      Thanks for the comment. I'm 45 years old and have never attempted a one rep max on biceps before. Been lifting my entire adult life. I actually never ego lift and I agree with you. I was just having some fun here. Always wanted to try it and I was confident I could do it.

    It is an IPF competition spec bar. This would also happen is you dropped $1000 on an Eleiko bar. It's really annoying but these bars are not designed to be used in a power rack, they are intended for a competition combo rack/squat stand. It is annoying to deal with but I think more blame should be put on Rogue or whoever standardized 49 inch power rack widths. You are going to experience the exact same thing with an Ohio Power bar. Solution 1 which is less helpful is to clean up your walkout, but I bet it is already fine. Solution 2 is to put some 10lb plates as spacers inside the first 45 (ugly af), solution 3 that I took, is I bought a squat bar from Bells of Steel (StrongArm) but any squat bar will do. Last, bells sells narrower cross members for the hydra rack so it's the same width as a REP rack. It is about 2 inches narrower. The ribbing is valid and should be changed.

    • @GarageDwellerPat
      @GarageDwellerPat 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the insight. The Ohio bar has thicker collars by a few inches so I think the issue would not be nearly as noticeable. The Texas Power Bar even more so. This bar is marketed by BOS as an ideal squat, bench, deadlift bar so most people would assume it belongs in any power rack. My solution has been to put my plastic clamp collars on the inside, which gives me at least 3 extra inches. I also recently bought a Kabuki Transformer bar for squats, which is an amazing piece of gear. Thanks again.

    • @evanquon
      @evanquon 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, the Texas bar is very wide and you might notice it with the Texas power bar however I would say the Ohio Power bar is superior (I find the Texas to have too much whip). The Ohio bar does suffer from the same issue when I use it in power racks for squats. I just wanted to point out that it is a more universal problem associated with rack width as opposed to bar width before spending a bunch of money on an Ohio bar. The collar trick is also super helpful. Good luck with the gainz!!

    Good job, Pat. How does the Kabuki bar front squat setting compare to an Olympic bar front squat?

    • @GarageDwellerPat
      @GarageDwellerPat 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very similar on my quads. The upright posture feels better on the Kabuki because my upper back isn't hunched over like with a barbell. Obviously it's way more secure and I don't have to worry about it slipping off.

    I agree; those first sets of bench presses sometimes make you question your abilities. I also feel off when I warm up with an empty squat bar, but it feels normal once I start adding weight.

    So sorry to hear that our powerlifting bar isn't up to your standards. We have other bars that offer more of what you are looking for such as our olympic bars which have a larger sleeve collars more to what you are used to, as well as less aggressive knurling and sleeve ribbing. Our IPF powerlifting bar is built with thin sleeve collars to keep the weight closer to the bar to make the bar stiffer as the weight is close to the center, as well as to maximize its loadble sleeve length for heavy lifters especially those with bumper plates all without extending the bar. The ribbed sleeves prevent the weights from moving so much (Since it can strip paint, we recommend center steel hubbed plates to prevent this). These features are not for everyone of course so we offer many other bars to help solve this!

      Thanks Dave! I do front squats because its easier on my lower back and hits my quads better, but the grip situation can be a problem. Especially when I'm sweating. I was actually looking into getting a bar like yours but I'd like to go try one out somewhere first.

    I got caught one time at OB San Francisco in the shore break on a big winter day. I was literally 25 yards from the shore and couldn’t get to shore or go back out. Every time I’d try to paddle either way another bomb unloaded on my head. No one was around. What saved my life was the decision to ditch my board and bodysurf/kamakazee an ugly wave letting it push me as far in as I could. That last 10 yards or so was a struggle after that wave. When I got to shore I thanked God to be alive.

    What you did was too easy. You did not do complete dead hang and like I said your chest came no where close to the bar. These in my video are harder: th-cam.com/video/tLzfo450KFg/w-d-xo.html I did dead hang and to chest!

    Lost my board twice on two seperate occasions over many years both due to a broken leash on maybe 8+ days. The first time I was able to overcome the exhaustion panic and eventually make my way back in over what seemed like forever. The second time was quite early in the morning and foggy where the shore wasnt visible, someone eventually appeared letting me rest on thier board for awhile until i could continue swimming. Those experiences taught me to never trust my leash and not surf conditions I wasnt sure I could swim out of on my own. Needless to say I learned a good lesson. Unexpectedley swimming 300+ yards after a long session with consistent sets in a full winter suit truly felt like a life or death experience. Im not Laird Hamilton and thats alright.

    From a former lifeguard (city pools/lake), this video is scary stuff - guarding 300 screaming kids at a large city pool is one thing - this rescue is way beyond dangerous. The training/conditioning to become a professional lifeguard is intense - things most ppl don't realize on working this kind of beach - one cubic meter of water weighs over a ton - large breaking waves are like being hit by a truck - undertows, rip tides, sharp coral reefs/boulders, sharks, barracuda, jellyfish, debris, pollution, nearby storms - on top of ppl drunk/high or both, fights, theft...it's a lot to deal with. Experienced lifeguards working dangerous beaches & breaks know every rescue could be their last - once exhaustion/cramping sets in, so does panic & doom - and this is cold saltwater, very different from the warm tropical water off Miami - get rolled by a couple of waves & swallow water now choking or vomiting must be dealt with along with burning eyes & possible hypothermia - they're all lucky to be alive. Professional lifeguards are some of the best athletes on the planet - they don't make the big money of the NBA, NFL, MLB, but they put it all on the line to save ppl they don't even know - they're heroes plain & simple & should be paid more. I think working the wedge, these guards should always use wave runners to give them the advantage. BTW, the 2 guards watching were probably in training - weren't qualified to assist in those conditions - head guard took control & did his job - saved that guy's life!
