Table Saw + Miter Saw WORKBENCH Like No Other
Hey Woodworking Enthusiasts! 👋 Welcome to VanIsle Studio! In this video, I'm embarking on a woodworking journey, to enhance my table saw workbench. This time, I'm integrating a flip top miter saw station.
🛠️ Project Overview: I'll guide you through the step-by-step process of dismantling my current workbench, housing the Dewalt 7491RS Table Saw, and modifying it to accommodate both the table saw and the miter saw (Festool Kapex KS 120 REB Sliding Compound Miter Saw). The rotating miter saw shelf design allows you to optimize space and functionality in your workshop.
📜 Woodworking Plans:
Please note - I recently completed a "modification guide" and it is now included with the woodworking plans. It shows you how to modify the workbench, to fit your particular size miter saw and table saw 😄
Just like before, detailed plans for this workbench are available on my Etsy shop. These comprehensive plans, totaling 98 pages, provide a thorough guide for crafting this dual-tool workbench, ensuring your woodworking projects reach new heights. Here is the link if you are interested:
IMPERIAL & METRIC WOODWORKING PLAN vanislestudiostore.etsy.com
There are two versions of the IMPERIAL plan.
One version of the plan that utilizes regular 2X4's (3 1/2 inches X 1 1/2 inches) that are easily purchased at stores like home depot.
And another version of the plan that utilizes rough cut dimensional lumber with actual measurements of 2 inches X 4 inches, then planned to a final thickness of 3 5/8 inch X 1 13/16 inch. This is the exact size wood I used in the video.
There are two versions of the METRIC Plan.
One version uses 2X4's measuring 38mm X 89mm.
One version uses 2X4's measuring 45mm X 90mm.

What’s the advantage of leaving the gap to the left of the table saw, as if the fence system may protrude that way as well? I’m working through your mitre/table saw combo, making modifications for my Milwaukee saws. Just curious!
Very nice vídeo, animations, effects,music......etc. i love!! tks
More videos please!!!! These are just freakin amazing!!!
I was thinking about building this. Did you end up carving in some slots for the miter gauge?
You made a nice bench table, but all the braces are overkill. Unless you are planning on butchering a cow on that table. This is way more complicated and way more work than it has to be.
I got to say that cow on the table is pretty funny! Yes sir, I've heard overengineering before, you are not alone. I wanted it to be as strong and as straight as I could make it, with loads of support for anything you can throw at it, or on it lol, I'm glad you think its a nice bench, and I appreciate your feedback.
Watching this guy is insane. Like performing a hilarious job that is amazing. Yet he looks like a surgeon operating on Wood Projects. Saying his good is an understatement. His a genius and accurate. Mind blowing stuff.
Hi there! I enjoyed reading your comments mate 🙏 made me laugh and smile 😀 and encourages me, so Thanks again and wishing you all the best! Paul
I need this bench immediately
Hey Scotty! your comment cracked me a smile mate 😄 Thanks for that and thanks for stopping in!
I have a feeling the creation of this video probably took longer than the creation of the workbench! Incredible and amazing job. I think this is my favorite 'workbench build' on all of TH-cam!!!!
Hey Cameron, you know, you might be right about the video taking longer lol 😂Thanks so much for the awesome feedback mate, its greatly appreciated 👍✨ Wishing you all the best, Paul
Not only is the workbench amazing but the quality of this video is incredible! Liked and subbed!!!
Hi Cameron, great to meet you! and thanks so much for your kind comment!
hello from England great special effects on you're video top notch cartoon effects. also love the American and Canadian workshops they are huge. and love the woodwork and tools. I bought a Canadian tool called Dowelmax years ago one of best tools for making projects and not a screw in sight. heres a new sub from me all the best
Hey Mark from England! Its great to meet you and thanks so much for stopping in. I just looked up the Dowelmax! its pretty cool / well built, why didn't I know about this lol. I'm happy you enjoyed my video, and looking forward to learning and sharing more with you when I can. From a somewhat cloudy afternoon here on Vancouver Island 👍
Awesome job !! can't wait to see more of your excellent work.
Thanks mate, I am excited to keep building and sharing, just need time now lol. Till then, wising you all the best!
Hey Paul have you added any other tools to you fliptop work bench?
Hi there, I have a router and router lift I'm installing, but it's sitting in the shop at the moment, been so busy I didn't get to it yet, hopefully soon! Thanks for your question and for stopping in 👍
Still watching. But this is the single most marvelous woodworking video I have seen. Its almost Hollywood action movie grade camera handling. F** me that's nice!
Thanks for the kind words mate 👍 I'm glad you enjoyed it and hopefully I can share more with you in the future, thanks again for stopping in!
I just snagged a Dewalt job-site 10 inch table saw with the base and wheels, Model (DWE7491RS), as well as the Dewalt 12” sliding miter saw, model DWS779, on a bid site. Would these two saws work with your plans? I also have a Dewalt scroll saw. You didn’t happen to incorporate the scroll saw into your flip-top plans did you? 😉
Hi there, that is some really nice equipment you just picked up, Congratulations on your purchase! and thank you for your questions. Yes, The DWE7491RS Table Saw will work with the plans, no modifications are required. The Dewalt 12" miter saw on the other hand, is larger than the one in the plan, so the rotating shelf will need to be modified. I made a "Modification Guide" that walks you through how to do exactly this :) others have done this with success. If you ever have any questions just send me an email to vanislandstudio@gmail.com I'm happy to help / chat 👍 and thanks again for your message. Cheers, Paul
i'm very sad i cannot give 10 likes to this video

Thanks, it was a fun part to edit and glad you enjoyed it, Cheers mate 👍
are your plans in good old American feet and inches?
Hi there, yes sir they are 👍 I also make another version of the plan for our friends across the pond in metric. In case you're interested the plans are here vanislestudiostore.etsy.com thanks for your question and for stopping in mate! All the best to you

What a perfect table.
Glad you enjoyed my build 👍 and thanks for stopping in!
Wow, you are very creative and have massive woodworking skills, what a combination. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Cheers mate! I’m glad you liked it, it was fun to build and share!
Curious about the materials. I bought these plans and no big box stores have nice 2x4 like you are using. I understand they need to be milled down but the instructions say Douglas Fir. Nobody has that when I look. Sorry if this sounds ignorant... just starting out in wood crafting.
Hi there and no apologies necessary mate! and its great to hear you are getting into woodworking! You are correct, the big box stores like Home Depot will not carry timbers that are a true 2 inch X 4 inch in size. For this reason, I made two version of my workbench plan. One version uses "rough cut Douglas Fir 2X4's" (that are actually 2 inches X 4 inches) to build the workbench from. Since it is rough to the touch, these 2X4's needs to be planed. In doing so, the final dimension become 3 5/8 inch X 1 13/16 inch. Then I made another version of my workbench plan that uses regular size 2X4's ( 3 1/2 inch X 1 1/2 inch) and these are the ones that can be purchase at home depot or similar. Most folks use this size material to build their workbench from. There are three items with your purchase, the regular size 2X4 plan, the 3 5/8 X 1 13/16 inch plan and the "modification guide" You must have downloaded and looked at the plan that uses the 3 5/8 inch X 1 13/16 inch timbers. Download the other plan for the regular size 2X4's and away you go! Let me know if you have any questions vanislandstudio@gmail.com and thank you for choosing my plan! I Hope you enjoy your build! 👍
Almost done making mine with the regular 2x4s, but I suggest getting 2x6s from HD and milling them down. The wider boards tend to be better quality. Try to avoid end grains either the bullseye in the middle so they warp less after you cut them. Don’t forget to let them sit a week or two in your shop. Good luck with your build!
Based on advance trigonometry and shadow triangulation, NASA have determined that your workbench is .0000000001 out of alignment. We suggest you tear it apart and try again. LOL Great workbench
That is just too funny my brother!! I better start over then 😃 Thanks so much for the smiles here and for stopping in! Cheers
I really enjoy your videos! I'm learning so much.
Thanks for watching and I am glad you are enjoying the videos. Keep on learning just like we all are 👍
Great video, I purchased the plans a week ago! I’m interested in modifying the plans to primarily use mortise and tenon. Would it be advisable to use a Festool Domino 500 for the key joints instead of bolts, do you think it’d hold up over time?
Hi Aaron, than you for choosing my plan! Great question and Absolutely! Mortise and tenon joints have withstood the test of time and are incredibly strong. It also adds a level of craftsmanship and tradition to your build 👍 not to mention the Domino 500 is a nice piece of gear! I'd hope to own one myself one day. The only reason I used lag screws, (with no glue) is because I will be taking my workbench apart when I move in the future. That being said, the lag screws are an acceptable means of assembling a workbench that is also incredibly durable. Either way you cant go wrong, but if I didn't have to take it apart, I might go with Mortise and tenon next build too. If you have any questions as you go, just send me an email to vanislandstudio@gmail.com and If you ever feel like sharing a few pictures of your build, well that would be most welcome mate. Wishing you all the best and I hope you enjoy your build! Paul
Built it, except for the swivel miter part. Had it 1/2 done then realized my saw wasn't going to fit. Made a shelf like the table saw. It came out really well thanks to your video and plans. I probably watched this video 50 times. Thanks!
Hi Dan, sorry it gave you some headache when you realize your saw wasn't going to fit...glad you got it sorted and that's awesome to hear your workbench came out really well! Way to go Dan and Congratulations on your build 👍👍👍 If you ever feel like sharing a picture or two, it would be great to see! send to vanislandstudio@gmail.com if you want. Thanks for letting me know the video and plans helped out and thank you for your support by choosing my plan! All the best to you ✨
Great video. You young guys come up with ideas we would have never dreamed of. One question.....why do you need to adjust the height of the table saw? As long as it's even with the table.....why is there a need to adjust it?
Thanks a lot Dennis! The answer to your question of why... would be because of when I first built my miter saw station. I used shims to get it level with the worksurface, I need to remove my miter saw from the shop, and when I place it back, it was a pain in the butt to fiddle fart around with the shims each time. Then, I watched a video from Mr. Vereshchak, where he did something similar but for his Miter Saw Station. Taking inspiration from this, I kept the ball rolling and designed my Table Saw adjustable shelf, because I also take my table saw out of the shop... and put it back, and didn't want to mess around with shims to get it perfectly aligned with the outfeed, that, and I thought why not try something a bit different for the table saw, as I enjoyed learning something new. Thanks for stopping in with your question Dennis 👍
@@vanislestudio I like it. You'll be able to check it every time and even if it's off just a touch, you can get it right again. I'm thinking of making one for sure
Mind blown.....
Thanks so much mate! Cheers
Very enjoyable video.
Thanks for letting me know and thanks a lot for stopping in to say hi 👍
Beautiful work! Do you think this can be done by two people with moderate woodworking skills, assuming all the tools and materials are available, and your plan is ready, in just one day?
Hi Vincenzo thank you! Wow, one day for the build...considering you mentioned moderate skills, two people, it actually might be a possibility. Most likely a long day but there's a part of me that thinks it will take longer. In the plan, I glue up the legs, and in this case, I would also add a few screws to prevent any movement... The build is not that difficult, just time consuming to get things lined up nicely. At least for me it was lol. If you do decide to give it a go, please let me know to: vanislandstudio@gmail.com I'm very curious now Vincenzo and thanks again for your comment and for stopping in! Cheers
AI animations in this video are just great. The music is great also....well,everything is just AWESOME!
Thanks so much for letting me know as I continue to learn mate! I'm happy you enjoyed my build video, Cheers 👍
Hi Paul, from Liverpool UK. I've probably now watched 47,018 workshop bench videos and this is the one I want to go with as part of my workshop build. Just one question before I splash out any readies on the plans - if I hit any snags, I assume that you are prepared to come round and sort it? I would be prepared to carry your bags from the airport.
Hy Mark from Liverpool UK! It's a pleasure to meet you and I'm happy you enjoyed my build, thanks!! My wife and I want to come visit your beautiful UK one day. Not sure when...but I'll bring my tools to get up and running 😀 and not to worry, if you choose to build it, and do hit any snags I'm an email away and more than happy to help vanislandstudio@gmail.com Wishing you all the best mate!
Trying to decide how much of an argument I want to be in with my wife when I tell her I’m building this for the garage. Really great work! Mind if I ask what the total approximate cost was for this build? Thanks for sharing.
Hey Thanks Mark! Tell your wife its actually for her, but you'll be using it, to make all the projects she wants you to build... using her new workbench 👍 lol 😀 Last I did an estimate was around $800. By far, the most expensive single item was the casters. Folks have used others saving $$, If you want, I'm happy to send you the supply list. It has links to most of the items for you to get an idea of the build. My email is vanislandstudio@gmail.com and thanks for your message Mark. Cheers
It's nice to see wood working done without a $5k sawstop and $10k worth of festools ....
Hey Guy I need to move my saw out of the shop sometime, therefore the need for portable contractor saw. It's not perfect but it's a pretty darn great saw and thanks for stopping in.
I bought 2x4's from Home Depot. They are a bit rough. Was thinking of running them through my planer first, but that will obviously change the dimensions a bit. Should I do that or build as-is and use an orbital sander when assembled? For some reason I hate using my orbital and would rather do the bulk of the work with the planer. :) Suggestions/recommendations?
Hi Mike, thank you for choosing my plan! If you opt to plane the face or sides, yes, like you said it will alter the dimension, and ultimately affect the measurements in the plan. It's not a huge deal, I would print out each page, and note the changes to the affected parts due to the new dimensions of lumber. Some folks have purchased 2X4's from Home Depot (3 1/2 X 1 1/2), and removed 1/8 inch from each end, bringing the final dimensions to (3 1/4 X 1 1/2) and noted down the changes to measurements on each page. But yes, To sand, To plane...Yup. Try to remove as very little material as possible is what I'd say. Wishing you the Best of luck on your build Mike! Any questions vanislandstudio@gmail.com I'm happy to help however I can. Cheers
Why not use adjustable feet on the bottom of the saw, like ones on a restaurant table (that apparently servers don't know about 😂)? My Sawstop JSS has 8 holes, 4 mounting holes for a table top, and 4 holes that attach the saw to a cart. Sees more straightforward than threaded shelves. Am I missing something? I bought the plans, following them probably about 90%
Hi There, thank you for choosing my plan! Some folks choose to make the table saw shelf permanent, and use the feet on their saw, or shims to level it like you mentioned, I thought ill try something a bit different, and enjoyed the process of the build. I hope you enjoy building your workbench, if you ever have any questions just send me an email vanislandstudio@gmail.com, I'll do my best to help. Thanks again for your comment and best of luck to you mate 👍🛠️
Hi from the UK, I was taken aback by the detail and quality of your upload. Do you have plans for this table or even the plans for the swivel top? Would love to try an replicate the turn table. Thanks 👌
Hey Paul from the UK! It's nice to meet you and thank you for your kind comments. Yes If you are interested, you can find those plans on Etsy here vanislestudiostore.etsy.com There are two versions, Imperial and Metric. Thanks again for asking about them, and if you have any questions, I'm happy to chat vanislandstudio@gmail.com All the best to you Paul, Paul 😀 from Vancouver
You have plans on Etsy for a similar table, but that also accommodates a miter saw. Do you know if the Bosch GCM12SD is compatible with those plans?
Hi There, The plans need to be modified to accommodate the size of the GCM12SD. Thats a nice saw BTW! If you want, send me an email to vanislandstudio@gmail.com and I'll reply with a "Modification Guide" that I made. It basically shows you how to modify the workbench plans to accommodate your particular size of saw :) Thanks a lot for asking and have a good one!
@vanislestudio Hello! Thanks for the compliment. I do love my saw. I like that Festool..actually many of their tools. lol I sent you an email. Thank you in advance for the modification instructions. Your table design is perfect for me.
Do you have a link for the latches you went with?
Hi There, thanks for asking and here is the link if interested. www.amazon.com/inches-Stainless-Aluminium-Security-Hardware/dp/B083J72279/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2USSVNGPY84ON&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.6JEwteiAHsacxGd_Z-xS9geFHC2ZsTzC1CNO_AU2CUZff_R83fxz1UwV3CoTwvfrHGBehWq3CzwI4NZzbqJZVxvYRJNnrtjjF7-v4hektKZ5XRYRsHMXjYnfu_PRimU6rQPXdZ63ApXQAdI8fLfaT8TwO8aYZufcKeQkEVOQOvd5PZHL3NuV7sN5rvBt0--0eGIOBs45RsiUc85Slpo3R50rZ-NyFA7b3nCUP-LPDyS6sdMQA4nyN-sn1jd_PP-AARV7EEEV1Ngfe3p3W21-HwRLZaMtyspjzvOXDRwFSI1_vZwaJAKSc4Jg_kRvlEWfdixC97ZEMUqWP4pj9GoQWHCOXm0MnJPGTa22Dv30Wtt59sT05iv7k5sj55z9Vqt07w0w6qoPDIu0jDt56A0jEIW1Bo8koiKwLAuPdeWC4vwCGT9NUCntjHyLRP3D2pWE.wlRRlnFr8xIs_p6qrfLA7LTNIbiwY2jP68zuipakVPU&dib_tag=se&keywords=2+Pack+5%22+Black+Slide+Door+Bolt+Latch+%C2%BD%22+Dia+Stainless+Steel+Latch+Core+Aluminium+Alloy+Base+Heavy+Duty+Solid+Gate+Lock+Security+Guard+Hardware&qid=1737162143&sprefix=2+pack+5+black+slide+door+bolt+latch+dia+stainless+steel+latch+core+aluminium+alloy+base+heavy+duty+solid+gate+lock+security+guard+hardware%2Caps%2C137&sr=8-1
Amazing
Thanks for stopping in! Cheers
I liked the video, but please lose the AI voiceover, AI animations, and AI cutaway gags. Everything else was great!
Hi there, I appreciate your feedback and thanks for letting me know as I continue to learn. Oh, it's my own voice and I need to not sound like a robot or something somehow lol.
You disgust me😂😂 great work
😀😀 Made me laugh mate! Thanks for that and for stopping in to say hi! Cheers
Wow. This build is just mind blowing. And the video itself is insanely good.
Hi David! Glad you enjoyed the build and video! Cheers
Can this be modified to take a DeWalt mitre saw instead of the festool? If so, I’d happily buy the plans.
I am building it with the DWE780, if my measurements and SketchUp skills are right it will work.
Hi There, Yes it can and thank you for your question. I made a "Modification Guide" that walks you through how to modify the workbench to accommodate your particular size saw. If you send me an email to vanislandstudio@gmail.com I will email you the modification guide for you to have a look at. Thanks again!
Hi There, Nice saw you own BTW and its nice to see you working with SketchUp! I hope your build is going nicely for you, If you ever have any questions as you go, send me an email vanislandstudio@gmail.com I'm do my best to help out. Thanks again!
You rockkkk
Ha! Thanks mate, All the best to you!
Just curious, how do you route your power for the miter saw station? I just built this and I'm trying to come up with a good way. Also, my miter station seems to have a light twist in it. Having difficulty getting all four sides perfectly level with the rest of the bench. Thinking of just adding some playing cards between the tow pieces of 3/4" plywood? Your thoughts?
Hi Keith, Currently, I plug and unplug mine but I plan to change it to a permanent solution. One way is to run the electrical cord from your miter saw out the back of the rotating miter saw shelf, and secure it with some cable ties, or clips somehow, so it does not move around. There is another way that utilizes the holes in the flange and pipe. If you send me an email, I can elaborate more with some pictures for you if you like. vanislandstudio@gmail.com Getting all four sides level with the rest... the most important part would be to make sure the two sheets of plywood (RSA and RSB) are dead flat. Start from there. Shims may help on the workbench table itself, where the rotating shelf meets with the table. We can chat more in email if you send me :) Thanks again for your question and wishing you much success Keith!
This has to be the most overly engineered and over built work bench ever. But damn it’s AWESOME!
Ha I enjoyed this mate! Made me smile on a cloudy afternoon here on Vancouver Island.
