SF is an awesome lead in to work commersial CONUS nuclear power plant security. The average starting hourly rate in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississipi is $23-$25 hourly and top out pay within 3 years is between $28 - $31 per hour. 12 hour shifts, all uniform, equipment and training paid. In house security with fortune 500 utility corporations. Excellent benefits, advancements and high performers get the best treatment. SF considering a EOS opportunities check in to it. Basics of operating nuclear power plant security are defined in 10 Code of Federal Regulation 73.55. Good luck. I retired after 26 years at one plant.... Stay safe.

This may seem dumb but, why do we gotta patrol outside the base when other airmen are on leave? This goes for all places your stationed?

The Asvab requirement for security guard forces ties with becoming a cook. It's where they dump people who flunk other tech schools. You'll guard parked aircraft, ammo bunkers, and missiles which never moved. You'll work gates and check the same ID cards. That's the same work minimum-waged guards at my condo do. Sometimes you write fellow airmen cheesy tickers. I got K9 right after tech school. I walked the perimeter of bases in arctic-cold weather. We were cops as much as school crossing guards. The job was painfully boring. Tell me, how many arrests have you made? Have you ever participated in a Grand Jury investigation, or met with prosecutors in conference? Nope. Guard work does not help you become a real cop.

I lucked out with my SF career. First duty station was Hickam AFB 09 in HI and got Raven qualified within the first few months being there. Only bc all the Ravens were deployed or PCS’s. Man everyone was pissed...lol following duty station was Cannon AFB 2012. First day in training during lunch I went straight to the DAGRE section introduced myself and gave my cert and experience. Next thing I was in the pipeline. I hardly did the the straight leg gig so my SF experience was lovely. I’m currently in the Army as an infantryman. I miss my beloved USAF 😂

A tip: lose the folding knife (or stow it in your pocket since it's not secured to you) and replace with trauma shears. You have enough potential weapons that can be use against you (or buddies) if you go down. Shears are cheaper and they fit through the MOLLE webbing. Much safer for removing flex cuffs, and double as strap cutters if you ever go through the unfortunate vehicle roll-over. The folding knife is a liability against you if/when you go hands on for an arrest, even a compliant one.

+Jalen Croxton Personally, I never mount anything pistol ( mags included ) on my tac vest/chest rig/plate carrier, that's what your pistol belt is for. I realize you guys are probably rarely called on to do much shooting, but, given the choice, I would carry a double mag pouch for my pistol ( preferably at least 2 double mag pouches, on my pistol belt ). I would also, given the choice, mount double rifle mag pouches on my vest. Are the built in, open-top mag pouches on your vest double or single mag pouches for each compartment?
