    Good to see that you took care of that rust. Rust under a vinyl top usually turns cancerous if left unchecked. Heh, patina is a concept invented by someone who ran out of money in his restoration project.

    I have some questions for a mechanic. 53 Pontiac has cracked block - how do you fix that? How do You know for sure you have a cracked block? 62 Rambler has bands you can tighten on the transmission- where are they? 89 Pontiac Grand Am needs flex plate tightened up - how do you go about that?

    • @DaysofCars
      @DaysofCars 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Is the block cracked by frost or heat? where? internal danmage? When it comes to spesifications on clutch or automatic transmissions, buy a shop repair / service manual for that spesific car.

    • @icemancometh8679
      @icemancometh8679 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DaysofCars When it comes to my cracked block, I bought it that way but they were driving it until it was parked. So may be it overheated. I'm not sure. I think maybe it leaks underneath.

    • @DaysofCars
      @DaysofCars 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@icemancometh8679 Ok, i would first locate the crack and then clean it. Cast iron can be welded with special welding rods for cast iron. Not easy if under car and best with block out of car and done by someone who knows what he is doing. May be cheaper to find another block. There is some repair kits with epoxy, but it is not perfect. Could also leak from rusted freeze plugs, there is 11 of them on a straight 8 i think to check, and that is an easy fix.

    • @icemancometh8679
      @icemancometh8679 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@DaysofCars The freeze plug sounds very interesting. I know what you're talking about. I'm just not much of a mechanic - not a mechanic at all. 😁 I'm just going by what I heard. A guy that runs a salvage yard offered me the block out of a fifty three like mine but it came out of a car they used to hunt coyotes with. They cut the top of it off, put a bench in the back and ran through the farm fields shooting coyotes. I think the water pump gave out on it, but I was so afraid of it not being good, I didn't take it. You know, why else would he wanna get rid of it? ( I like the freeze plug option anyway) 😁 Mine has a tag on it that is from 79 and I bought it in 89. The owners had painted it black with a paint brush - it was originally turquoise with a white top. The black paint actually protected it. I say it looks like a cop car. It doesn't turn over and the belt is loose so I can't turn the engine with the fan blade. I could also tell you the story about my 89 Pontiac Grand Am LE but that's just another nightmare.

      Good to know, I was close to buy a drum grinder machine to this job. But what stopped me was the roof was rusted so deep pitted, and i wanted to save as much fresh metal as possible. Notting beats that rust picker brush tool so far, and it is notting like a normal wire wheel. I bet that SCT tool you are using is fast when removing paint and surface rust, but how is it when it comes to heat and the risk of warping?
