Will it Run and Drive After 12 Years? | 1955 Imperial Newport HEMI V8

  • Parked 19 years ago, this 1955 Imperial Newport Coupe, a luxury model made by Chrysler Mopar, is an older restoration California car that was last driven to a garage in 2004, the hemi V8 was last started and ran for about 12, twelve years ago. The car was washed and waxed before it was transported on a trailer. What will it take to just get this classic car going again?.. Will it start, will it run and will it drive??

    My brother ordered and took delivery of a ‘55 Windsor coupe with the small Hemi. White over black with a red interior. Absolutely gorgeous car!

    A very well preserved 55. You can tell someone was really particular when you see the tailpipes still routed through the bumper pods the way they're supposed to be.

    Love the systematic logical approach to every problem. This is a great car love the gear selector! Vehicle deserves a light restoration or a large detail to do it justice. Chrome work will be expensive but it will look marvellous!

      That is after-market air. Factory Air for this car was trunk-mounted.

    • @dave1956
      @dave1956 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s aftermarket. The factory unit had the evaporator in the trunk and the cold air came out through the package shelf. I used to work at a dealership and a customer brought one in.

    So tiered of the “will it run after x years” videos. Of course it will run (unless it was damaged at time of storage). It might need a coil, plugs, points, etc, but yeah, it will run! I have spend 55 years (started at age 10 with my dad) pulling antique cars out of barns in Michigan. They all ran (although, a few a bit scary). If you find one that doesn’t “run”, send it to me, I’ll take it off you hands (at a non-running price 😊).

    • @DavidSmith-sb2ix
      @DavidSmith-sb2ix 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I read a great comment about these old "will it run?" cars. They said the reason they run is because they don't have a computer to tell them they can't run.

      Imperial was literally a custom car produced by Chrysler. Much of the work was hand done. Chrysler claimed that they lost money on every Imperial sold.

    Those spark plugs went into my Pop's 1967 Chrysler 300 400ci HEMI V-8 engine like that too!!... I would ĺove to have helped this guy repair this car.. The engines were so much easier to work on... Not smushed up together with these computer chips, none of that jazz... It would've been cool if this had a 3 on the tree instead of that boring automatic transmission...

    The car itself was an amazingly beautiful design, all except the taillights. Those should have been worked into the body itself, not sitting atop of the rear quarter panel, to become a target for any young punk with a baseball bat and the brains of a future career criminal. Anyway, in my humble opinion, I would have not designed the taillights like they had.
    The nickel plating on the bumpers didn't do well on this one. Sad that they nickel instead of chrome or stainless.
    I sure do hope that you can have the bumpers saved, they are another beautiful part of this amazing car.
    Thanks for sharing.

    • @DaysofCars
      @DaysofCars  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agree with the taillights, but you get used to them, and they have a nice appearance in the dark. The bumpers are a result of a cheap chrome job somewhere in the 80`s i guess when this car was restored, and you can tell by by the angle grinding marks on the backside and no sign of copper from a tripple chrome plating process. Had most likely been better looking today if they left them original. Thanks for watching!

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU….for NOT calling your IMPERIAL a “Chrysler ” !!!
    From Wikipedia:
    For the 1955 model year, the Imperial was launched and registered as a separate marque (make), apart from the Chrysler brand. It was a product of the new IMPERIAL DIVISION of Chrysler Corporation, meaning that the Imperial would be a make and division unto itself, and NOT bear the Chrysler name. Chrysler Corporation sent notices to all state licensing agencies in the then-48 states, informing them, that the Imperial, beginning in 1955, would NO LONGER be registered as a Chrysler, but as a
    SEPARATE MAKE.”

    If you could afford this automobile when it was new, you paid for service to be done by a tall lanky 'grease' monkey.
    Maybe an 'agile' wrench turner v the slanderous term 'grease monkey' but just noting where the points are located, [@7:14] what a pain in the sacroiliac.
    You'd pretty much need the agility of a monkey to attend to the points/condenser elements in that distributor.

      Rear of engine mounted distributors were common to many auto designs. Chrysler Corp. eventually changed their big-block designs to have the distributor at the front of the engine.
