    Mehano produced the steam locomotives for IHC and they are still very much in business. If you need parts, I'd recommend checking with them.

      @michaelramsey81  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do they still make parts for the older IHC steamers? I tried to look them up a while back, but their site seems to mostly list European trains now.

      The ones that runs the best are the IHC Premier line in the purple box.

    Walmart has a nice selection of metalflake acrylic . Apple Barn brand $.50 - $2.00 per 2 Oz.

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried similar ones from Michaels. There are some nice colors, but it's really hard to get a good dark metallic red. Most acrylic metallic reds are very light, and adding black to darken them also reduces the color saturation. The only reliable way I've found to get that rich, deep candy red finish is with Tamiya TS lacquer spray cans (either Clear Red or Pure Metallic Red over silver or gunmetal).

    A good video regarding that spray booth would be nice; I just got into spray painting with a air brush and I really joyed your video regarding such.

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I didn't make a video on the booth because there are already several in-depth reviews of it on TH-cam. Although mine was Paasche branded, it's identical to a commonly available unbranded model, which Barbatos Rex (an excellent channel that primarily covers model painting) did a full review on. In fact, it was that video that led me to buy mine. The video is called "Testing Amazon's Cheapest Spray Booth For Airbrushing".

      Thanks! They're Roundhouse 50-foot Overland cars. I believe Strasburg uses the exact same ones to represent their real coaches on their HO layout.

    I've got a question for you: I am designing a 5'x9' layout comprised of a 4'x8' section, a 1'x8' section, and a 1'x5' section all bolted together (in case you are wondering, the 4'x8' is already pre-built. I got it from a friend). My question is: how would you lay the track (tangent as well curves) and build the scenery (hills, valleys, etc...) so as to make easy to disassemble it, move it up the stairs, and reassemble it at a later date. Is terminating the subroadbed, cork roadbed, and track at two benchwork joints an acceptable solution? All the information that I have seen so far seem to recommend that it is not a wise idea to align track and roadbed joints with benchwork joints, and that it is better to overlap them. How would you do it, especially on grades?

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is usually better to overlap the joints, but it's not strictly necessary, and if the layout has to split into pieces, sometimes that just isn't an option. What I did on the W&SC was cut the rail at the edge of each section, and remove a few ties on both sides so I have room to slide a rail joiner onto the rail before connecting the layout sections. Then, once the sections are together, I can slide the joiner over the rail gap, and it keeps the rails perfectly aligned. Some tracks cross the gaps at angles and even on curves, and it works just fine. You can see it at about 6:49 in this video: th-cam.com/video/yfOS0kjmjB8/w-d-xo.html

    I bought three IHC Mehanos around 1997. Two moguls and an 4 4 0 with the same frame as the moguls, one driver removed, but covered by the pilot truck. About 40 to 50 dollars new in a shop in Pensacola.
    They all ran flawlessly and didn't need rework or wiper pickups. They all matched each other in speed.
    My guess is those resold have been stored badly or abused by trainset users instead of benckwork layout modellers.
