How I quit alcohol and remain sober in Alcoholics Anonymous
มุมมอง 5K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I tried to get sober many times. It is very hard to get sober when all you know is drink I thought I could get sober by doing it my way. I thought I was an expert at sobriety... however, I was only an expert at not being sober. I had to change my mindset. I had to treat my addiction the same way a sick person would treat their disease...through treatment. My treatment consisted of medical detox...

Alcoholics Anonymous and Sponsorship
มุมมอง 24K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Do you need a sponsor in recovery? Do you need a sponsor in AA? Do you need a sponsor to quit drinking? Do you need a sponsor to stay sober? Understanding Higher Power In Alcoholics Anonymous
มุมมอง 13K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Let me explain my concept of higher power for my addiction recovery. 12 Step recovery programs require a spiritual connection to a power greater than yourself. This video explains my interpretation. I asked myself if I can do AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) without god or without believing in god or without believing in a higher power. Through working the 12 steps I came to believe in a higher power....
Man, why ya gotta do Hagrid like that?
"the desire to drink" not just being drunk
Who else is watching this drunk lol sober is the new cool
Today was my first meeting, and received my 90 day token. I'm as ready as ever. “IWIYWI”
Im clean from heroin and meth for 6 years. Now i've been an alcoholic for 2 years. Fuck. Today gonna be my first day not drinking.
Everyone is going to CA anonymous because CA even though it is the exact same program accepts ANYONE no matter what there addiction is, because in the modern work most people drink as well do drugs and many many other things. The 12 steps are a solution to addiction not just alcoholism.
In a nutshell, they cant stand it when someone can go on without them. You're assumed to be an immediate failure. Its conditional help, join our cult, then well help you. Former AA board member said" Its an Oxford group religion disguised as a treatment for alcoholism
It's like drinking poison and wanting the other person to siffer
With 37 years of sobriety. The newcomer is the most important person to me. I see myself and What will happen to me If I let my guard down. And share my experience strength and hope. With them.
70% you're kidding me right I can make millions of that percentage

I'm 29 now, and I am quitting. Been drinking for 11 years & I've lost toxic friends over it! But I feel so motivated now.
Been in different AA places in mexico some places have you there against your will and I had been sober for 4 months then I relapsed and it took me 2 more weeks of relapsing to finally find the determination to stay sober been 2 months sober going on 3 I thank my higher power for giving me another chance at sobriety and fixing my mess of a life
I’m starting the 12 steps not for alcoholism but for panic disorder. I wish you all luck!

manne I love this guy!!! tyty
I could identify with your feelings and a lot of your story. There are a lot of AA heaters and that's ok. People are entitled to there own opinion even if they are wrong. Four days ago I turned 78 and I am now sober with the help of AA and a network of great people for49 years and 8 months. Please continue on the 12 step path and I am sure your video will help a lot of people. THANK YOU
Im 30 in 6 months, im so completely done.
You've got this!
@JulezX.X 11 days so far.
i couldn’t agree with you more thank you so much for your video
crying this whole video
52 1/2 years sober. Love to listine to all that think they are better than other. When Clarence Snyder took me through the steps and taught me to apply the 12 steps, the 12 traditions and the 12 concepts
I’m on day 10 your videos have helped me a lot. As a newcomer to AA I think it’s good to be aware of the issues. I’ll look for a sponsor who seems to have wisdom around spirituality and the 12 steps.
There is no middle of the road solution. Until we let go of our old ideas completely, the result was nil. Major truths that I'm lucky to have finally accepted and tried.
I’m 28 and the only success I’ve had in my life is thanks to the program. Started going in 2019. Kept coming back as they’d say. Now it’s 2024. And celebrated another year sober. Could not be more grateful.
It worked for me but with such a low success rate.I can't carry that message anymore
I was so Disturbed by all of this. When I discovered the word sponsor is not in the book. The follow up book is called twelve and twelve, And it talks about someone sponsoring an alcoholic by paying for their room. The word sponsor means pay
James Hetfield 🤘
AA doesn't work it's a cult
Really bad
Thank you for giving me and example to start my fear defects.....
❤❤
😂😂😂
Right that’s kind of clever, but it still for me at least is just total emptiness because so much of the blue book and so much of stuff that happens at my local meeting talks about direct communication and contact with the higher power. Not to mention handing over your problems to that higher power not sure the door knob is going towork in any way, other than sort of like a joke.
The point should not be to lose the desire. The desire to drink is a SURVIVAL drive for pleasure. The force of life. The point should be to recognize the desire as separate from yourself. Because it is. And realizing that will truly set you free.
This is an interesting and insightful take on fear, that perception of lack that we all have. I like how you stick to the book and dispel the idea of facing your fears. It seems the point is to see how self-reliance, that need to gain control or power over things, fails us. Since we are trying to gain a new relationship, or a reliance, that is outside of self "Perhaps there is a better way -" The idea of, "At once, we commence to outgrow fear." fascinates me in its effectiveness. That paragraph and the ones above shows the meditation (reviewing our fear) a better way or intention (prayer), and the action (work) of, instead of sitting in fear, being as "insert your thing here" would have me be. This tool has freed me form self-reliance (ideally but not always haha) and replaced it with a better reliance that is meaningful to me and those may be useful to.
"The minute we put our work on a service plane, the alcoholic commences to rely upon our assistance rather than upon God." Good insight. People are helpful to walk you through the process but, if you think about it, the way it was designed, the big book was the first real sponsor.
“Rigorous Honesty” and be and stay opened minded. It works if you work it. Been sober since 2019🎉❤🙏🏻
Interesting view and well put. I appreciate the way you identify and breakdown the "affects my" of self. I think most people are not aware of the connection of how the injured self manifests in our minds and actions. This seems to be the fuel of resentment they try to get us to see and offer to replace with a "key". Invariably "self, manifested in various ways," drives my need to take back the control or power through my reaction to resentment. The powerless want power, right? Consequently "selfish" ideas and/ or the "fear" materialize as "self-seeking" -- "dishonest" behavior (where we, "Referring to our list again." ) is my part and identifying those seems to be "where we were to blame " and the " faults"..."we place before us in black and white". I do that with Selfish, Fear, Self-Seeking, Dishonest, in the same fashion you break down the "affect my". Looking at it that way shows me how self manifests into the troubles I have and leads to the drink I will take. I've really grown to appreciate "the key to the future" that is offered with the idea of, "mastering" our resentments. That process of meditation, prayer and action, sandwiched between "...our injuries" and "...our own mistakes", has been the true relief from resentment and one of the more tangible spiritual tools of AA ...along with "...outgrow our fears" and "right ideal" for relationships. Truly transformative.
After drinking 10/12 Tall cans everyday for 5 years straight alone I have finally decided to stop. Today is my first day of not drinking and I hope I can never look back
Love you ❤❤❤❤
My experience with AA is that the a few of the groups i visited had let go of the traditions and became a club of oldtimers who had coffee and forgot about the 5th tradition. Newcomers, this is my experience, were not welcomed but sort of blamed for coming in and ruin their hour together., I identify as an addict, and the chair rsponded with" Oh, another druguser"....... not the love i felt and saw in NA. The program is the bases , not the Fellowship. Im still clean and sober, but AA had no part in that....almost the opposite. I found love and i belong in NA, and im sorry for those who relapsed because of the lack of honouring the 5th tradition......
Im stuck in that spiral brother
How the hell can "faith" cure a "disease". Alcohol allergy is horsehit. AA keeps people ill. From a person who is not alcoholic.
Thank you, I,m Ingrid from Estonia.
You can throw aɓout numbers all day long. Doesn't mean they're real.
Where has the data for the claim of 5% come from. This is an honest question. I am an AA and I’m a data/science person.
I'm done with alcohol. Day 10 today.
People hurt people.
So good!
Thank you! This needed to be said!
