Westberg's MGA ~ Roller Cam 1950cc 'B' Series
มุมมอง 1.3K6 ปีที่แล้ว
This short video shows the MGA powered by an MGB engine that has quite a bit of improvements. Bored to just under 1950cc, the Compression has been raised over 9:1, large valves, quite high spring pressure to handle closing the valves quick on a roller camshaft that has duration so wide that you might think the valves are open more than closed, cylinder head work ported out as large as one could...

Jensen Healey 3.4L V6 - First time the engine has Run in 20 years
มุมมอง 1.5K8 ปีที่แล้ว
A very quick (and Unedited) video of The First Run of the Jensen Healey V6. The injectors have not been controlled in 20 years so it can be heard that the engine is not firing on all injectors quite yet. This is common for setting injectors. Running the engine for a while by itself will commonly cure this, especially as clean petrol will now sit in the rail. Many of these exact engines (1993-95...

    Torque baby yeah its probably only like 200 to 225 but thats all you need to move those cars. I got 168hp out of my 2.8 in a firebird but i did alot to it . The cam and hooker super competition long tube headers jet hot coated and 1.52 roller rockers no cat and true duels is what woke it up. Plus bored 30over so i think i was close to 200hp at rhe flywheel.. had a 700r4 and B&M shift kit in it too. Jacobs pro street ignition and ultra coil . I wish i would have done the 3.4 3500 hybrid though. Anyways i got 33mpg on the hwy. Very good gas mileage and it chirped the tires in 1st and 2nd when you floored it. Couldn't do it when it went into drive though not enough power. Still it was a fun build project and had rhe car for 22 years

    Neat, another MN MG guy! I'm up in Duluth with a stock 1600 Roadster. Planning to sell my motorcycle and tear into it next winter. Crossflow head and dual DCOE port injection throttle bodies. Not sure what direction I want to go ECM wise but it should make for a cool car. I'll be using an 1800cc as my base. How extreme can you go with these and keep it streetable? 4 throttle bodies should wake it way up from what it is now I am thinking. Think 160hp is possible out of one N/A?

    Awesome! Did you make any suspension modifications?

    • @BMCC75
      @BMCC75 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Although many would love to hear about newer suspension and brake systems, suspension modifications on the MGA are not required as the driveline weighs about the same. We recommend polyurethane bushings, wider wheels, and an anti-roll bar up front, as we would with the stock driveline anyways. On earlier MGAs with four wheel drum brakes, it is best to convert to either later MGA front disc brakes, or MGB front disc and rear drum (as they adjust more precisely) for better brakes overall.

      BMCC75 I’m doing a full rebuild of a TR, and yes there are many products out there. Because of that, it’s difficult to sort through them all. I am thinking about using the lizard skin on the floor and firewall because it’s an easy spray, and you know how hot it gets around the engine tunnel. Want to reduce roasting my feet and reduce noise. Thanks

    • @BMCC75
      @BMCC75 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenjackson4177 As mentioned in the video, any product can do well at sound reduction or reduce energy (heat/cold) transference but none of them are really great at both. We treat sound deadening differently than we do energy transference materials. The material used in the video is mostly for sound, but does help slightly with heat. I'm sorry I don't have any studies that I can point you towards.

    Minor point...it's not a 6 speed because 3rd gear with overdrive is virtually identical to regular 4th gear. You would engage O/D after 4th gear....then you stay in O/D, shifting between what is effectively 5th gear (4th w/ O/D) or 4th gear (3rd w/ O/D) as needed.

    A V8 wouldn't fit??????

    • @BMCC75
      @BMCC75 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This engine conversion began when the 95 3.4L was a new engine and then sat for a number of years elsewhere. We recently finished the conversion. In the mid 1990's even though a much heavier 350 Chevy would fit with a bit of bodywork, the owner still wanted the car to handle well and the 350 V8 of the mid 1980's had about as much BHP as this 1993-95 3.4L produced. With a few modifications, the engine, like any other engine, will produce even more power if desired, and still in a lighter, tighter package.

    • @BMCC75
      @BMCC75 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would consider an LS4 FWD engine connected to a bellhousing from the GM V6 engine family with either a later higher torque V6 T5 or a V8 T5. This would give you an aluminium engine with a 303BHP and I believe 330 lbs torque if a V8 is a must. We have assist in a lot of 3.4L Conversions and a few other types as well but for an engine bay as large as this with a smaller opening for the bellhousing, the LS4 that has the smaller bellhousing bolt pattern looks like it might be somewhat ideal and has already been done in other British cars already. The J-H engine bay such as you have allows for more engine than many small British Sports Cars but don't forget, British cars are generally known for handling- go ahead and add power but not at the cost of handling.

    How much work is it to convert the MGB? There are lots of resources online, and I'm reading through them. Looking to put the 3.4 in a 70's chrome bumper MGB. Other than a little hammering on the tunnel and some engine mount work, it doesn't look that complicated when using the kit available. Was there any serious fabrication work involved? Do you keep the suspension?

    • @TheLifeTerm
      @TheLifeTerm 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm about to do the 3.4L V6 Conversion in my '79. I just purchased a brand new crate engine from GM and a r rebuilt T5 transmission from a local builder. There is extremely little fabrication needed. You can get the swap kit ( AS Headers, motor mounts and the rest for $750 ) . There may be some hammering in the trans tunnel, but not much at all. Oh, I'm using the V8 MAN front bushings and tube shocks, but that's hardly worth mentioning because of ease. I was going to do an '87 Thunderbird 2.3L Turbo swap, but too much fab work for me. The 60° 3.4 Chevy is a great engine and will mate well with the Holley 390can. It'll be rebuilding the one 1.8l, just in case. I have the 5 speed. OD trans that I recently rebuilt. You never know...I may decide d e to go back to semi OEM

    I have an MGB GT and an old 1967 Rover P6. I fitted LED bulbs to them and removed them within a week. Yes they are bright, but they just look too chavy (that's an English expression, perhaps lost in the US) Also should point out, that they are illegal in the UK and most of Europe unless CE marked

    • @BMCC75
      @BMCC75 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The LED bulbs, in comparison to Classic Auto LEDs boards are the same difference as going from a candle to an incandescent bulb- there is such a huge difference between an "LED Bulb" and the Classic Auto LEDs boards, that it just doesn't make sense to compare them. Check out what people say on the MG Experience forums. To this day, there is nothing Brighter, and since it uses the entire tail light housing, it gives Literal Volume in light so fellow drivers will see the MGB, or Spridget with these lights.

      In the Camera only. Cameras and video cameras do not pick up the same way the human eye does. When you are behind this car, you will see red. If the lens was not in place, it would be the same red as the incandescent bulbs, only it would leave you with spots in your vision if staring from right behind the car.

      I wired that up on my Renault Megane a few years back. It's actually a much better way of doing it, imo. This way the brake lights never phantom out the turn signals. Also when a bulb blows, you get hyperflash to warn you when a brake lamp is blown, because it uses the same filament. Here is what I made: th-cam.com/video/W4vFZX5QrWs/w-d-xo.html

    @BMCC75 Well let's see... 4000 pound roller... check At least now you have more HP and Torque than in the video. I would trade a few horses for a few ft pounds. Your car wasn't happy pushing the roller? Shouldn't have been a problem with good tires and it should have pulled solid all the way up the RPM scale. I also noted you did the test in third rather than fourth. Different Dynos Different Days but they should still be ball park. Lots of toys on that engine for 5 foot pounds of torque.
