Fun guides and discussions about Dragon Age and other RPGs! New videos out every Sunday-ish.
Welcome to the B-Tier Mutineer channel. I'm Nate, and I’m here to share with you videos and guides about some of my favorite games in a relaxed, 'B-Tier' style. I'm don't do min-maxing, and I'm certainly not a "hardcore" gamer; I'm here to have fun, discover interesting stories and strategies, and enjoy games without grinding or struggling.
I love talking about RPGs in general, and what makes them tick - narrative design, combat, exploration, UI, etc. I'm incredibly curious to explore how games do what they do, what some of the best and worst features are, and how future games could improve. Who knows, one day I may even create my own RPG based on the ideas I come up with!
I don't accept sponsorships, and I always tell my 100% honest opinion, but if you want me to look at your demo/game, or want to discuss a creative project, you can contact me at the email address mentioned below.

The Most Compelling Disco-Like RPG I've Tried So Far - Rue Valley
Rue Valley is a fascinating upcoming narrative RPG with a cool story concept (time loop + mental/personality issues). I enjoyed playing the pre-alpha demo as part of the Southern Europe Game Festival on Steam (oops, in the video I said “early alpha” instead of pre-alpha), and I can’t wait to see more of the game as development continues. Definitely looking forward to another demo later on, perhaps during a Steam NextFest, and I will for sure binge-play this game when it comes out because it’s just so compelling and I MUST know what happens.
You can check out the demo for yourself until November 20th (not sure if the playtest will be available after that), or otherwise look at the Steam page for any other details you may be interested in that I didn’t mention in the video: store.steampowered.com/app/2126190/Rue_Valley/
To the devs at Emotion Spark Studio: if you need someone with QA experience, I am 100% available and would love to test the game and provide more detailed feedback and bug reports. You can contact me at the email address I have in my channel’s description.

Veilguard's Trans Representation Critiqued by a Trans Guy
มุมมอง 92Kวันที่ผ่านมา
I’ve been thinking about the trans representation in Veilguard since the top surgery scars were mentioned, but I wanted to wait and see how trans identities were represented before I made a video. I almost deleted this entire script because I felt like maybe it was useless for me to try to have a conversation about it, but as a trans man I feel like I have to say *something*, even if it may mea...
Why Veilguard Was Always Kind of Destined To Fail
มุมมอง 14K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is a more freeform discussion video because I felt I had to get my thoughts out about why Veilguard was in many ways destined to fail from much earlier than people may think. My long analysis video of Veilguard *will* come eventually, but for now have something that doesn’t go quite as deep into every single thing wrong with the game, and is more interested in the direction of its story du...
A Comprehensive Guide to the Mage Class in Dragon Age: Origins - B-Tier Guides
มุมมอง 7K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
An extremely long video that took an extremely long time to research and write, but hopefully this should help you create your own build for a mage character in Dragon Age: Origins, and better understand the mage class as a whole. I was originally planning on also discussing gear in minute detail, but I decided against it since really what you need to know in order to choose good items to equip...

FAQ: Why do you have an opinion if you haven't played the game yet? Very simple answer. I have functioning eyes, ears, and a brain. I have critical thinking skills, and I am genuinely afraid for all the people who say that you have to try something for yours...

My Least Favorite Quests in Dragon Age: Origins (and how I'd change them)
มุมมอง 2.4Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Since Dragon Age: Origins is my all-time favorite game, some people may assume that I’m blind to its faults, or that somehow I love everything about it. The Best Dragon Age: Origins Mods that Enhance its Visuals
มุมมอง 8K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Dragon Age: Origins is an old game with dated visuals, but that doesn't mean it has to remain that way. The DAO modding community has made so many mods that enhance the graphics of the game, either through retextures or upscaling of existing assets, replacing them with new models or ones from DA2 or Inquisition, etc. There are so many more retexture/overhaul mods out there than the ones I cover...
Dragon Age: Origins 4GB/LAA Patch Guide to Fix Crashing
มุมมอง 7K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Dragon Age: Origins is an old game. It came out in 2009, and it has a memory leak that never got fixed to my knowledge which causes a lot of crashes. However, just because it has these issues doesn’t mean you can’t solve them. The best thing you can do to minimize crashes on newer computers is to install the LAA (Large Address Aware) patch, also known as the 4GB patch, which allows the game to ...

Why Avowed is My Most Anticipated RPG

People sometimes refer to Avowed as Obsidian’s “Skyrim”, but I think it’s much more similar to another Elder Scrolls game… and that makes me very excited. I really love the idea behind Obsidian RPGs, even if sometimes they’re not 100% my cup of tea, because at the core of it all, they understand what an RPG is all about - meaningful choices, multiple paths, everything in service of story and wo...

I appreciate your view and opinion on this topic I am a straight white male so I have no personal experiences to pull from but as I watched these scenes and saw all the reviews and hate something just felt off and I think the way you describe it is best thank you.
I just want to say, thanks for the video! what you said really ressonated with me... because those topics are shoved in a players face in a certain "fixed" way.. it... "perverts" the whole conversation - especially in a RPG where you should have "free" choices - so a real free choice would also be to not accept it at all as an evil character (and not hate people for wanting to roleplay as that and deem it "invalid"). its just double standard then... The point with the "walking on egg-shell-thing" is also very true... and if a game like DA gives the false feeling, like you really might have to do that in real life... a natural reaction might be to just don't bother with it at all. Because lets be real... everyone has his own life.. and his own struggles and why would I stress myself out, if I have the fear that I have to walk on egg shells in a situation. time is precious... life is short... so examples like that might just push people in the direction to just avoid it because of it. I don't know how to explain it properly (my native tongue is german)... but just the fact, that the games handles the whole topic in something like the "barve" crap... annoyes me. it puts it on a "pedestal"... like you said... just get it over with if you made a mistake (in general)... we are - last time I checked at least - all human beings... which should mean... no one is (or should be) more special? so exactly the opposite of the barve thing, that only puts a spotlight on something that should be fine after - like you said - acknowledging it, saying sorry, and move on. maybe saying this is wrong too, I don't know - its not my intention to "hurt" someone with it... but shouldn't inclusiveness also mean... that something blends in naturally? so in regard to this entertainment media in form of a game... that you integrate those kind of characters/topics in a subtle way... without taking a f*cking big red arrow and point at it and not make it stick out... that's not really natural... and like I said in the beginning ... it poisons the whole conversation... anyways... thanks again for the video I make sure to watch some more and hit that sub button 😀
Glad to see the trans community feeling just as off about it as well. I felt that Krem was done better as trans rep and I am not even trans!
I listened to your entire video, and it reminds me about how I originally felt about Zevran. As a gay man, I was not particularly happy with having Zevran as one of the earliest representations of a gay man (well he's technically bisexual, but it doesn't invalidate my point) in a mainstream game. (At least the earliest representation that I've personally encountered.) I had issue with how he fit too many stereotypes of being promiscuous, being the fastest to jump into the sack with your warden, etc. I also had the same issue with Cam from Modern Family following too many "gay man stereotypes" by a straight actor, especially since I felt Mitch was a lot more relatable and "palatable" to homophobic people. So I can kind of see what you're saying about your grievances about Taash. Over the years, I've grown to be a little more understanding about those characters. Sometimes even the "less than perfect" representations of characters is better than no representation at all. I am not saying that "poor representations" of characters wouldn't move things a few steps backward. But I at least try to give credit to media that at least are trying, even if they don't quite get it right the first time. Or even the next several times. You keep trying in hopes that the missteps along the way don't offset an overall net gain forward. Gay representation wasn't perfect when it first started showing up in media, and it looks like trans or non-binary representation is having very similar challenges. But I do think your points are valid and hopefully will be taken into consideration to make characters like Taash better in the future. I just understand that Taash doesn't have to be the "messiah of non-binary" people, and I never expected them to be. I just wanted to learn about how one writer portrayed the non-binary experience, even if it doesn't happen to be your own. And all the moments between Taash and Shathann made me weep because THAT was the type of relationship/interactions I had with my own mother when I first came out (and still do to this day). The way Shathann spoke, behaved, and interacted with Taash is SO how my mom interacts with me down to the T. So even though Taash's experience wasn't something you could relate to, I just wanted to say that their experience 100% spoke to me and made me feel like my own real life situation was accurately represented through Taash's story.
Dragon Age 2 is a huge improvement in bisexual relationships in my opinion, and Dorian in Inquisition is still one of the best gay reps in I have seen honestly. Zevran was a misstep which is weird because Leliana is done so well!
A queer polish person over here- I think a lot of what you said was really valuable addition to the discussion and I overall agree that some things (especially Taash subplot) could have been handled better. However, I also want to make a note that mastectomy isn't as new of a procedure as a lot of people who talk about those top scars tend to imply it is- we have some records implying the first attempts of the surgery reach 3000 years back. Sure it wouldn't be as advanced as modern day surgery but as you mentioned- they have healing magic which could probably help the patients recovery afterwards. Also while there is shapeshifting magic in Thedas it was implied as an old and rare form of magic in DAO, and Morrigan could only perform it on herself. Which means that non-mages would still probably need to stick to other methods for more long term effect. Generally there are fascinating implications about the medical care in Thedas and how for example the dwarven communities would need to develop without aid of magic but Dragon Age often likes to play fast and loose with it's setting so it's hard to tell what is and what isn't a viable medical procedure in DA. So while I definitely don't want to argue that DAV's trans rep is perfect I do wish that people would just let the top scars be- some people like to make characters with traits they can relate to and some people have those scars. And tbh- we are never getting approval from people whose biggest issue with the character creator is that it has a top scar option so it might as well be there.
On the top surgery scars - for one, lorewise, just how friendly to blood and flesh magic IS Thedas? This is absolutely not an accessible option. As for the surgery itself, I understand where people are coming from. However, Thedas is not reality. Please, suspend your disbelief for a moment. Why can't they have the medical technology for it? Why not? It's not supposed to be the far distant past, it's a completely different world. Plus, it's fictional. It the writers say they have the medical technology for this, then they do. Why can exceptions be made for literal ogres or elven technology or the human characters walking up and down streets lined with lava with no problem... but not for top surgery. With the top surgery as well, some people LIKE the scars. Its not always necessarily about being a man/woman in a cis way, but being a man/woman in the way that they feel best. So, they may have pride in their top surgery scars and their identity as a transman specifically. Additionally, ciswomen also get top surgery, be it for medical reasons or aesthetic. My ma got breast reduction and has similar scars, because she simply didn't want her boobs to weigh her down anymore and she's cis. As for the mirror options -- yeah, it was weird because my character is non-binary and it said for trans OR non-binary... but then my character mentioned transitioning when i said they love who they are... when my character in my mind didn't want a medical transition. 😅 That being said I'm HAPPY the options were there. Just made the roleplay a bit clunky. When it comes to Taash, I feel like people are being quite unfair. I must be the target audience, because I immediately liked Taash and their straightforward attitude. They come off as someone 19-21, just a bit younger than me and I remember that age. It's when you realize you're no longer a teenager whose invincible and knows everything. You're an adult who is new, and uncertain. But when the conversation with Neve happened, my non-binary character had the option to say "I know how you feel". That gave me pause. Taash, again in my opinion, came off as questioning femininity. Not so much "why do YOU wear that?" Like they say but implies, "why do YOU wear that? You like it? Why don't I? Why don't I want that?" Without them off the bat immediately asking "why don't I like feminine things if I'm a girl?" Cause that's on the nose. Of course, my thought is, maybe Taash is gender non-conforming (gnc). Cool! I don't want to suggest non-binary/transness if they're not. But because the option is there, I click it. Oh!! Guess Taash doesn't mind the idea. (I went in spoiler-free) But it actually made the story flow really well. It was my character that gave Taash the vocabulary (non-binary) that they later use, so it didn't feel like Taash just up and made up the word after it hadn't been previously established because MY character established it as a concept earlier in a natural way during the Taash and Neve conversation. Also, the topic of Taash not liking being a woman, them saying, "Nobody LIKES being a woman" is them seeking validation from fellow women (or woman in Neve). They're actually asking, "...right? Nobody does, RIGHT?" to seek comfort. Instead, Rook offers an alternative perspective. Each option basically ends with, "maybe you're not a woman". As for Taash's comment about Neve's appearance, at first they questioned Neve's clothes so they're adding that to show whatever they were feeling, it was not saying Neve's clothes were ugly, Taash likes it, just that they wouldn't wear it. On the topic of the word "non-binary" being used, I have zero problems with it. People see it as a "modern" word and I understand it might stand out. We also need to realize roughly 23 years have past since Origins. Its not a long time, but a lot can change. Non-binary is not Gen Z lingo. It's been around since the 1940s and literally describes being not any of two options. It's not strange that the term would pick up in Thedas. I know it bothers anti-lgbt people, or exclusionist, but that's a crowd I'm happy to not pander to. The issue is, we do not live in a bubble. This game is getting so much shit for Taash being non-binary at all, the fact that people don't like their personality is just icing on the cake. And yet, should we make an absolute baby sweetheart of a character, that would be a "steven universe gay". The truth is the cishet crowd will never be happy with our characters, even though it's not their place to approve or not. No matter even if Taash pandered to them, that would sicken me, and even then, they would not like Taash. A side note, just because a non-binary character exists does NOT mean they need to be a learning opportunity for the ignorant either. Taash does NOT have to be some learning opportunity and some beacon of every trans person's experience. Maybe just let Taash have their own experience. Also, in the coming out scene, remember the context. Shathaan has criticized Taash constantly for their "manliness" Taash's whole life. She also thinks she has failed, because Taash is not a proper woman which Taash has heard their whole life. Taash wasn't really ready to come out. Taash just wanted to be accepted in the words they chose, not any word, even a qunlat word. Taash is non-binary and prefers that word. But Taash is young and brash and immediately shuts their mom out because they're afraid of her judgement -- again, since, Taash's whole life Shathaan has shown disappointment in Taash's masculinity. I haven't seen the Isabela push ups scene, but out of context, yeah I agree that while I understand the push ups were meant to comedic, and indeed meant to show that Isabela is sincere, it does draw so much attention to the mistake that it's embarassing. As for Taash's journal. It's meant to be read like a list. Also, leave it. It's personal. Anyway, that's my two cents on the points about Taash. I understand most people don't agree with me, but I went in blind, without expectations, in good faith. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it.
The Solas ritual mission made my eyes hurt so much. Not only with all the flashing lights, but motion blur and camera shake are on by default.
40:52 To be fair, they are writing notes. Whenever I write down notes, mine sound even worse than a caveman. And it looks like chicken scratch. The way I write notes is shorthand and extremely different from how I speak. So I think that's what they were getting at with that codex entry.
AH, finally! somebody talks about the scars in a magic world. it's so dumb to have the option of scars when you can just polymorph someone. the entire writing seems, as if it was produced for a children's game.. which is kind of insulting.
Honestly I can't wait to have top surgery scars. It'll be a huge weight off my chest, and scars are sick
Im a 45 year old hetero woman, who lives in Germany and never had a touching point with the topic Transgender or nonbinary in real life. I see myself as a open and friendly person, but if a stranger came out to me and told me about their gender identiy at our first meeting i would back away at first. For me, that are not the things i want to know about this Person . I want to know the Charakter of this Person better, to build a bound, maybe gain a friendship if we have the same Interests. If i became friends with this Person, then im emotionaly involved enough and we can discuss it. For me that is something very personal, to personal to tell this to a stranger on the first meeting. My Problems with Taash, i dont find her ugly, but i think she is a brat. Her Scene with Neve made me angry because of the line: who want to be a woman anyway? I as a woman felt playing Veilguard like it is a sin to be a woman or have womanly features . You cannot give your female Charakter signs of Femininity like bigger hips, a bigger chest or a bigger butt. Most of the models have this strong jawline. Its harder to make a feminine beautiful Charakter, most of the NPC are looking very androgyn, like a mix between a man and a Woman . But that are Things i can overlook, but not the poor writing of Taash, and she is poor writen. And even after i finished her personal Quest, i still think of her as a she, because she gave me the Impression not to be grown enough to make important decissions of her own. In Comparison, i adore Crem. The way we find out about Crem was so fullfilling, we talked to the Iron Bull, learned about his past. Crem gave me the impression that he is grown enough to save the world with me. Damn, i hated that i couldnt romance him. Even with his female body, he was always a he to me. Taash every Discussions includes "my mother did that, my mother said that, why did my mother to that?" Taash always complain, demands Things, she always aprove if you talk bad about her mother. Everything in Taashs Life is the fault of her mother. Alltough, when she talkes to the other Companion she is very rude, like in Neves Scene and later she calls Emmrich a Skullfu...r. I was curious about a complex Charakter, wanted to know more about the struggle a transperson has, but instead we get a whiny Teenager. because of that i dont even want to romance Taash and i dont have a problem with gay romances. I still think Liara is the best Romance out of all Dragon age and Mass Effect Games. In my Opinion the Studio did more harm to the representation of transpeople then good.
I consider veilguard not canon end of story, Like jedi not attachment to any series, Every famous series has it Rise and Fall just stick to what you like or move on.
Thank you. While I would nit pick a bunch of whats said the main points stand. I hate how a lot of people discuss "around" the actual game and just hate it because it has representation or defend it because of it, without considering the actual details. Even ignoring the trans representation the writing is shit and this doesn't make it any better. And while I absolutely hate the whole "woke" debate and block any channel using it in their title or thumbnail as its just void of meaning at this point, this supposed "RPG" not giving you options to disagree IS a big problem and clear agenda. What a pile of taash (hehe). Very beautiful characters btw ^^
Not to be transphobic but like scientifically your a woman no matter what you do on a fundamental level just feel like you should be a man I don’t mean to be hate full just refuse to feed delusion
Biologically female but names and pronouns are entirely man man concepts and our use of them can be changed. Making this about biology when you know it isn't is just willful ignorance.
I know this is a serious concept, but at the same time, GODDAMN. You know how to make some absolutely FUCKED UP characters. It was very distracting, lol. It is good to actually get to see the opinions of someone who has real experience and stakes in this particular topic. Most of the discourse has been armchair warriors who fight for the sake of it
The scene with Isabela was so jarring. This is the same person who, if you didn't jump through specific hoops, would 'peace out, chumps' on your entire party and leave Kirkwall to slaughter over a bauble. (Which is why my rogue Hawke romanced her in the first place, well that and pirate booty...)
The criticism here is spot on. This could have been special, but it was a total wreck. You can tell that the live service crap they were working on never quite left the product after the shift.
Human Mage for me. Love the connection to the Hawkes and Trevelyans.
As someone who is Cis, it is REALLY refreshing to hear a well-explained, thoughtful critique of the trans rep in this game. I never played Veilguard, I have a friend whose a massive fan of the series and she laid out how bad the game was written and how shit the characters were. But still I was skeptical because of how much the conversation has been overtaken by culture war bullshit and right-wing outrage merchants. And I was worried that agreeing the trans rep is bad meant I was on the same side as those bigoted morons. I run a D&D campaign and one of my NPCs is a trans woman. A goblin artificer. Her transition hasn't come up yet in conversation, but it's not a big deal of her character since she transitioned so long ago. In my world she had to undergo a transmutation ritual to achieve it. It's was expensive, but it worked and she just is a woman now, because it's D&D and that kind of stuff is possible. I also have a non-binary druid who presents fairly masculine with stubble and long dark hair, who has pretty substantial ties to one of the biggest intrigues of the story. I think I'm doing an okay job with them but at least I know I'm doing better than the Bioware writers.
The "nobody actually likes being a woman" scene is particularly annoying to me, because this would've been something meaningful if Neve just went "uh, WHAT? I DO!" It's a common thought for eggs that "this is just a normal thing, nobody actually likes being this gender, there's nothing wrong with me," it's that classic meme of the middle-aged transphobic dad going "well, trans people must be wrong, if people could change gender there would be no men 'cause we'd all choose to be women, right fellas?" I personally even remember feeling very confused and a bit annoyed at trans men before figuring out I'm trans, never openly saying anything but always thinking "I'm glad they're happy, but honestly who in their right mind would choose to be a man? Being a guy sucks!" All it would've taken would be for Taash to be shut down for that, like if Neve and a female rook would immediately just go "what? I actually like being a woman, it seems like you're the one who would rather not be one" it would've made sense, it would've been realistic even. It's frustrating to see wasted potential like this!
I have not played Veilguard (I have played Inquisition and LOVED it), and I am a leftist. I completely agree with what you are saying here and after watching different reviews and now this one I can safely say I will stay away from Veilguard. Such a shame cause I was really excited for the story they were building up from Inquisition. Now I fear Mass Effect will suffer the same fate too.
Hey, I'm not involved in LGBTQ and conversations about that so much, and I want to apologize in advance if I write something incorrect (English isn't my native language either). For me, it's really frustrating when in supposed to be an RPG game someone throw in my face such topics in aggressive, preaching and non-likeable way. I have no problems with any LGBTQ characters if they're written well, when I could feel his/her/they story and sympathize them during emotional moment. In DA:V, however, such representation only grows hatred against writers and that "character" in general, cause I don't see a believable personality. I've raised my opinion about trans persons on a whole new level after your video and your thoughts on this topic. In contrary with my feelings after what I saw in DA:V, where my only thoughts was: "how I hate all this stuff from developers, why is it even here, why it's so distasteful, I want to distance myself and forget about the whole topic as if it was a nightmare, probably the whole LGBTQ theme is such a cringe". You showed me, that it's perfectly valid choice in life for some people, and I'm totally not against this (as long as it's not aggressive propaganda). BioWare did opposite of that and only raised my frustration... Thanks for your video!

My personal game theory is that Taash was originally not non binary. We can see early concept art that portrayed them as more feminine. I think Taash’s main character arc was dealing with their multiculturalism and leaning more towards the story of the child of an immigrant juggling between two cultural identities. With a more tradition parent applying pressure for them to embrace “the old ways”. Then it feels like Taash being nonbinary was slapped on after the fact and it really shows in the writing as those aspects of Taash feel rushed and forced into the narrative. Not sure if Taash’s rude and stupid/childlike personality and way of speaking was added earlier or later. I really hope that when they decided to make Taash NB they didn’t go “ok let’s make them really stupid and mean spirited” because that just feels extremely transphobic. All and all I think Taash has been a detriment to trans rep in media, particularly video games. Which is crazy because there are trans character in this same game that are done really well. Idk what happened but it has had major consequences.
I had been avoiding the game this far, but friend linked the coming out scene to me and I was in pain. I am nonbinary my self and I just lack words for not only the cringe of having modern slang in a medieval fantasy setting, but also frustration with the character behavior. modern writing is just ass.
This isn't a Dragon Age game, it's somebody going through something, but instead of working out their issues in their own personal time they chose to do it on the clock, and now we all have to suffer for it.
First seeing all of this I was happy for trans and non-binary for this game. I though that the wording did sound weird in dragon age world and hoped a different word to be used but then though would that be more disrepting to remove the word? I don't have friends who are trans or non-binary so I took everything as a good thing even if I found some of the things weirdly put (the bavr for example). So thank you for making the video to explain! I still like the game but the writing is weak compared to the other games and that is a shame.
Baldur's Gate 3 handled being Trans / Non-Binary the best in any game. It's not even close. I don't think I saw many or anyone complaining that you can be Trans or Non-Binary in the game. Because the game itself was amazing, and it didn’t treat the choice like an event or have your character talk down to anyone. You were just you.
What do you think of Jago in Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty? I think that's the only trans man character in video game I know.
Ça, c'est moi.
I agree it’s perhaps a bit strange to have the scars separate, but depending on where you are in Thedas, magic can’t just be openly used by anyone at any time. Also, blood magic isn’t exactly accepted or super safe, especially for something just cosmetic.
Apologies, incoming wall of text. Almost complete agreement with your essay here. I think the biggest thing that effected the game as a whole was the jumping on/off the live service development track. It's not only left all of the atrocious gameplay and UI styling from that phase, it's derailed any time and effort that could have gone elsewhere. Like the dialogue. Strangely enough I've found that there is some very interesting and engaging writing in this game. Specifically in the Codex entries. They tease events that have been happening in the recent past that have led to this (frankly baffling) world state the game takes place in. The political upheaval in Minrathos with the anti-slavery faction and the Shadow Dragons getting traction. The schism and subsequent rebellion of the Antaam against the greater Qunari. These are the events that I want to have played through and seen for myself. Not have it tucked away and hidden where most of this games intended audience wouldn't even stop to look at it. Personally, I think this is where most of the veteran writers have been at work, trying to bridge the divide between the established lore and the parody it's become through these entries. Whatever the case, it has left me grieving for Dragon Age also. I join you in the shadows where you stand.
For one thing don't hijack pre-existing properties that people are already invested in as fans to suddenly Troy ham fisting in some non-binary morality Tale or whatever just just come up with your own ideas I think that's what the main problem is but then if they had to do it yeah they could handle a little the heck of a lot better I hate all this woke crap in video games and media and no I'm not a bigot or a homophobe or any of that and I don't care if you believe me I don't have to prove myself to anybody
Theres also a irony where Taash refers to this guy named Emmerich as 'corpse guy', despite his very blatant rejection of that title, while Taash insists that theyll refer to him that way. A bit hypocritical much?
Yeah Having an asshole character isnt bad writing. But when your responses dont reflect that a character is being an asshole and can only show support feels like the writers dont see the hypocricy. Which is bad writing I feel. Also being able to play dumb with krem and dorian and they have a response is good writing.
I have poverty dysphoria. Can I cut that off?
Thank god, a space to be critical of veilguard's god awful writing where the comment section isn't flooded with rampant transphobia
I'm not trans, but I'm gay. I got banned from Veilguard forum for saying people won't take us LGBTs seriously because of bad writing like Veilguard. No insults, no sarcasm, just that. But not even gay people can criticise the game, it seems.
It's unreasonable to expect any piece of media to be fully representative of the full range of experiences of a marginalized or minority community with a single or handful of characters. The problem is that there's so few instances of queer representation that each one of them is scrutinized and picked apart for failing the impossible task of satisfying and representing everyone at once. Queer characters/stories don't need to be all encompassing, there just needs to be more of them.
I consider Top Surgery Scars battle scars ♥
the graphics really got me, beautiful and unique
Well if one good thing came out of Veilguard, it was me having your channel pop up in my recommendations, I loved listening to your take on things and will be checking out other videos while I continue to mod my Skyrim for the billionth time. I'm not under any minority umbrella, but many of my friends are, especially in the MMORPG community I've actively been a part of since over 15 years ago - and I'm not exaggerating when I say they have ALL been either offended, amused or disappointed by this game's handling of trans representation. As a hardcore DA (especially Origins) fan, I knew it wasn't gonna be great straight from the trailer reveal, but I had some hopes it would still be worth playing with mods or something in the future... I don't even think modding can save this trashfire unfortunately. That's been an extremely disappointing realization, having the decade long wait for a new DA game come to this conclusion. Everything from the dialogue feeling like they're continuously preaching to you, top surgery scars in a magical universe to words chosen to be used in this dark, medieval fantasy game has been poorly executed. None of the dialogue in the game feels like it's compelling actually, especially when you look at it from an RPG player choice perspective. I really wish they would've handled things more gracefully overall, this game (in my opinion) spits on what is now the grave of the DA franchise. For an example, the top surgery scars... why include them in the first place? Allow an option for the backstory creation instead with a MAGICAL transition. They could've taken inspiration from the Witcher if they were lacking ideas. Yennefer transformed into something else, changing her appearance - but not without cost. There's always a cost, right? In a dark fantasy game that cost could've been a way to portray, that sometimes something is so important it's worth doing no matter what. That would've been a much better way to send the message to their audience, though almost anything is better than what they did tbf. Anyways, rant over and again much thanks for a great commentary. Greetings from Finland from another non-American. (The disclaimer about that made me laugh, because it really hit home lol) --- Edit: I forgot to say that yes, absolutely make a video discussing how you'd handle writing a trans character into a DA-like universe, would love to hear your thoughts about how you'd like the community to be represented in more detail.
The cave man voice part tore me up. 😂 While playing, I could not get past a single one of the codex entries cause I felt they were all so poorly written. And I'm the type to spend hours in the evening in a game just browsing through the codex entries when I'm too tired to engage in combat that day
Felt more like a mockery than a representation
I value these dao content (thay come from actual ogs and not content creators to recycle 'used goods' on mainstream grounds---.) Like its a gold rush
(No one posted screenshots of him) idk but that made me chuckle a little Fairly American accent? I thought you were American.
This writing feels like a carefully crafted sabotage piece against trans people. Like someone wrote these scenes to actively try and make trans people look worse. I haven't met many trans people but my friend has a non-binary spouse and they behave nothing like this.
im sry the only ''human'' mistake was letting that abomination of corrine bush (and when i say that i mean nothing towards her identiy but her as a person) in a position where she utterly killed a beloved franchise by millions of people just so she can relate hers and a few more ppls personal experiences in a rpg that is nothing but puppy eyes and unicorns and u cant say a single bad word or disagree with any companions..ugh
Very still closeted trans here. Feel too old to transition so I partake in my wish fulfillment in video games and fantasy media, the same way I've been doing since I was 7 years old in the early 90s. I didn't even try to make my character trans. I can't speak for ANYONE else, but I just wanted to make a cute female character to represent me the way I feel inside. I don't want or need to make transitioning a character backstory and complicate matters. I just wanted to BE a female character, the way I know in my heart that I am. They couldn't even give me that. Can't make a cute female character because femininity is apparently sexist and wrong. Thanks for the wakeup call, Bioware.
