Lambchop's Chop Shop
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 26 ต.ค. 2011
Hi, I'm Jordan, and welcome to Lambchop's Chop Shop. Here on my channel I plan to take you all with me while I work on my vehicles. I am neither a professional mechanic, nor a competent one, so I invite you to laugh and learn at my pain while I inevitably screw up everything I work on and most likely do things the wrong way. I also hope to mix in some how to's, and inexpensive tool reviews to help any other shadetree mechanics watching. Thanks and have a great day.
Restore Your Old Vinyl Seats
Watch as I take an old vinyl bench seat and breath new life into it. I show you how to restore and soften the vinyl quickly and for cheap. The secret is just elbow grease and common mineral oil. It's simple to use, and will really help rejuvenate your vinyl.
I ended up not using the Mother's VLR, but I have used it recently on another rubber product and it seems to work great. To be fair, there probably isn't a Mother's product I wouldn't recommend though.

@@michaelbastrom3041 I'm disappointed I haven't done anything in a while. Life got in the way. I'm still here though. Hopefully I can get back in the grove.
Great Video ! thanks !
Funny, Bilstein specifically told me that these shocks are not compatible with the 1.5" lift, but it seems like they are per this video. I couldn't find any shocks anywhere that were specifically listed as compatible with my 87 F-150 with a 1.5" level.
@@PJthePlayer weird. These worked just fine for me.

Did you have to do an alignment and if so how did you do that? cause mine has that level kit and the top of both the wheels are leaning outwards from the style of front suspension
I have exactly the same truck. Right down to the color and missing hand grips!

do i need upgraded shocks or does oem level shocks work?

Enjoyed your video and picked up enough info to start repairing my 1990 F-150 windows! Thx!
@@raymondgroseclose7011 Thanks, that's great. Good luck with your truck.
Nice video. I agree with the grease. You don't want to pack it like a bearing, but leaving it without grease doesn't seem right either. I got kind of a chuckle at the point where you're reading the instructions about no grease and when you pull the old ones out there's tons of grease in there. I used high temp bearing grease and coated everything. Now that I have them apart after years of use nothing was stuck, seized, rusted, etc. Not sure why they suddenly decided not to lock in, because they still look and move like when they were new. I put a 1/4" spacer in to give it more spring pressure and it's just marginal maybe that's just what happens over time.
@@jerrycallo weird how that works sometimes. I blame engineered obsolescence hahaha.
So, oddly enough, mine only fit with the rubber boot going down. Luckily, I didn’t hammer hard on the grommet/eye like you said. It’s still weird looking.
@@Kosree1 Weird... At least you got it on.

Will this route work for other shocks than bilsteins? Bout to put on some kyb excel g
@@malakiamorrow2773 Yes. Should be the same process for any shock absorber on these trucks. Good luck.
Got one on my f 250 seems good to me
I believe you installed those upside down. The boot is supposed to be on the bottom for the rears. Not sure about the fronts.
@@jasoncharles6980 The fronts will only go on one way. As for the backs, I believe they can be installed either way. It doesn't affect the shock dampening. I just preferred the look of the boot on top.
@@LambchopsChopShop Labels right side up is the word on the street. Hey do have to purge the shocks before installing? Thanks for the video.
@@tarwashsomeonestolemyhandle I did not have to purge the shocks.

@@johnhaley3531 Awesome! Good luck.
Did you ever replace the coils?
@@petewebber8671 Yes I did. The video for it is on my channel. 👍
I wonder if either your tools have tighter specs than normal, or Bilstein thinned the paint on those parts in recent years, I had zero trouble getting tools and the locknut over it. Great video, was just what I was looking for.
Hopefully Bilstein just improved things on their end. I can only assume that they seen my video and decided to change, lol.
You got a new subscriber!
Awesome, thank you!

Thank you. I hope you were able to get some use from it.
I haven’t done shocks yet, but they’re on the list for my 86.
Nice job!
Thank you.
Will this work on a 93 Ford F-150?
I'm not 100% sure. I believe a 93 has an air bag, and that may complicate things a bit.
@@LambchopsChopShop okay, thank you.

Hello, how am I from Mexico? I want to put those increases on a 1994 Ranger. My question is, are they hard? or are they softer?
They are a little more firm. But they ride better than original ones.
Good job thanks a lot I intend to repair my trucks hubs this was a big help
I'm glad I could help. Good luck.
Glad I came across your videos while researching shocks for my 1992 F-150. Love the content. Do you have plans to start posting videos in the future?
I would like to, but a lot has changed in the last few years, including a cross country move. Unfortunately I'm not in a position, currently, to make more videos. I will keep my channel up so people can take advantage of the videos I do have however.
I think you need to put the regulator arm in the window slot BEFORE you screw the motor on.
In hindsight... That may have been easier, lol.
Slick Honey is great for lubing those rubber bushings.
I'll be sure to check that out next time.
For those of us that are week end garage warriors could you go over any precautions taking springs off and placement of the jacks and stands to be safe. thanks.

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks for your tips on making my seats 💺 look new again Great info 👍 Thanks again
I'm glad I could help.
Light coating of grease on the hubs is fine. I typically do that everytime so it's easier to remove in the future for maintenance or brake work. Alternatively you could just use gear oil lube and just coat everything. It's not going to hurt a thing. I've taken apart some very rusty corroded hubs so assembling dry makes zero sense to me.
Good tips. Thanks.
Dude, you should of worn safety glasses!
Absolutely.
I wonder why that SL F8.8-31 # 17005 kit costs $ 582 on the USA Standard Gear Spartan Locker website but only $ 250 on Amazon and eBay?
Wow! That's a hell of a difference. I'm not sure why it's that way.
Do you remember how much you paid two years ago? Did you buy from Amazon or from the USA Standard website?
@@STBRetired1 I bought it off Amazon if I recall correctly. I don't remember the exact price, but I believe it was pretty close to the current Amazon price.
Thanks and your video just answered another question that had me worried. In some pictures, like those supplied by USA Standard on the Amazon site, the locker looks to be a dark almost black metal. For a second, one view in your video also appeared to show a dark metal. But as you moved the part around then I could see that it was actually the bright, shiny silver color that all lunchbox lockers seem to have. Thanks again.
