I own Lumix G9 and Sony a7r2. The image files from the Sony are just a bit better. So why do I reach for the G9 98% of the time? Because the whole experience is more enjoyable. There is something about the G9 that I really like. It has soul. The Sony is a competent dry efficient camera. The G9 is addictive. High resolution mode 2 can be shot hand held, hit rate about 60%. So I shoot a bunch and delete the bad ones. G9 is a keeper!
@@HamiltonSRink there's a pretty big quality difference between the older Sonys and older lumix cameras. Sony has improved a ton since the A7Rii. Also the a7rii is 2 years older so that's part of the difference as well. I'd take a g9 over an a7rii anyday but a G9 over an A7iii not as easy of a choice
Lens?
@@DB6904. most on the 23mm F2.8 but there's also some on the 18-55 F2.8-F4 and the 16-45
I’ve been a photographer for over 40 years and it always makes me chuckle when people get so hung up on cameras, remember the most advanced part of any camera is the person using it. One skill in particular that seems to be lacking is the ability to manually focus
@garyr3788 sure the person using the camera is and always will be important but that doesn't mean the gear isn't important.
I’m just getting into photography after a long hiatus. Would this be a good primary lens for hiking/travel with my a7c?
@@akmark it would be really solid for hiking and traveling. Wide enough to get super solid landscape views or shots in city's of tall buildings but also has enough zoom to get some compression and a bit closer to subjects. All while still being very light and compact for the range. You could also consider the Sony 20-70 F4 if you don't need the mot shallow DOF and want more zoom range.
Being robbed while on vacation or traveling is painful enough, being robbed with an authentic bag is even worse, I agree with your point about buying fakes from kislux for personal safety reasons
I'm stuck between the XM5 or XT30 II for photography only
@@BrooklynCapo1 what type of photography will you be shooting?
@@selishots Portraits, & Street Photography.
I had wanted to get a G9 for years, as I already had lenses. But, it was so expensive, plus I thought that it was going to be heavy. Now with the G9ii, the prices of the G9 used was something I couldn't so no to. I snagged one for about 600€ with fewer than 4000 clicks in perfect condition with all original bits/bobs and box. And the weight hasn't been an issue. Actually, it feels solid in the hands. Maybe the G9ii is a better camera, but is it 3 times the camera of the G9? The price of the G9ii is way out of my league and the differences between them, I don't know if I'd notice. But, that's just me.

How do you think the Canon R6 Mark II is for hobby photography?
@@Kral-tm5pl either the R6mii or the A7iv can be great hobbyists cameras, it really depends on what you want to shoot and how your planning to use the camera.
@ Do you think 24MP is sufficient for sharpness and quality in photography with a device like the R6 Mark II?
@ you could get good images with 12mp. It's a lot more about the skill of the photographer. A good lens also makes a huge difference. If you take a beginner with a $10000 setup vs a pro with an old canon T3i and ask them to take a good photo the pro will always take the better photo.
These are lovely shots! A crips snowy day is a great way to get out and shoot black and white, too! One thing I like to do is still shoot RAW, but monitor in black and white. So, your buddy could still do that with him Canon camera. In doing that, you have the best of both worlds. Flexibility of RAW in post, but you're viewing in Monochrome.
@@jaredcollins-photo snow days really are perfect for B&W! Monitoring in black and white makes it so much easier! I told Evan he could set his canon up to do that right after he said that line! I'm shooting I'm JPEG + RAW on my Fuji

Opps! Totally forgot them! Here they are: 00:00 intro 00:44: Build Quality 1:57: photography with the X-M5 4:09: videography with the X-M5
Considering its a new sensor, it can do cinematography and good with photos. Using an edu email, its 100$ cheaper.. other cameras such as the RX100, GRIII and Lumix S9, its way cheaper.. 700$ brand new, I cant complain.. over 50% cheaper than the X100VI if you can find it. give it a few months people will oversell this or a few years and the sentiment will be positive. Happens every time. I dont even know what alternatives are as good for 700$. This is a great hybrid camera, get some accessories like a lightweight gimbal, for 150$ and then lens for another 150$, its 1K to make it work well in all scenarios if really needed.
@@PluPerfective that's why I'm saying, the value this camera offers is really insane. The closest thing to it is probably the ZV-E10ii but that isn't as full featured and costs more. It's a great offering, Fuji nailed this one.
@@selishots Im suprised the general consensus seems negative, but i think this will work well for my first camera to build my way up. Thanks for the review btw.
I honestly haven't sent to much negative feedback on this camera, mostly everything I've seen is pretty positive . Where have you seen more negative reviews?
@@selishots Reddit and some youtube reviews. Perhaps its the algo but seems a lot of people say theres no point in getting this camera and point towards something 1.5 - 3.0 x more expensive
@ I very much disagree with that! Especially as a first camera
XM5 is a great camera, But it has one flaws The lack of IBIS really have an impact U have to grip the camera steady Or else you would get some shaky image, coming from XS20 that have IBIS really make me have to alter my shooting style when i use XM5, But the value it brings is crazy good
@@muramasa30 every camera has its pros and cons. I honestly don't think the lack of ibis is a huge problem unless you're getting the camera just for vlogging which like I touched on in my video I don't think you should get it for just vlogging.
We need a apsc osmo if it's possible
@@bctaylor46 eh, I think that would increase the size pretty substantially and the best part of the pocket 3 is the small size
@ or they can use the camera set up from the mavric pro 3. I feel like they need something in that $1000-1500 price range. Wouldn't quality and versitity justify a sacrifice in size?
@ the Mavic pro 3 is micro 4/3rds not apsc. m4/3rds would make a bit more sense but it would still add pretty substantial weight and size. At the point you'll need that level of quality you're going to be on more professional shoots and will benefit from using a traditional camera and gimbal setup. I'd sooner rather a small zoom range over a larger sensor. Not once using the P3 have I felt I needed a larger sensor
@@selishots I see what your saying. While I'm not a professional videographer. I do use my camera for professional purposes to shoot fitness content for work, and there are situations feel zoom range or a larger sensor would benefit.
@ I've shot with the P3 in very low light situations and I find it punches above its sensor class. Think about how much people already hate camera in public gyms, so you really want something larger in the gym that will draw more attention to yourself as well as make others angry with you. Yes larger sensors are always nice but you need to weigh pros vs cons
The blacks on the XM5 are not comparable to any Fujifilm camera. Certainly not the X100V, XT3 and XT5 that I have had.
@@TungstenOvergaard I haven't noticed any substantial differences in the blacks between the X-M5 and other Fuji cameras I've used. Why do you think they are different?
Sounds like you got a defective one. It’s literally identical.
@@selishots at same settings and same Film simulations, blacks are considerable richer in the X-M5. I don’t have the x100v anymore and I cannot try, but t certainly with the X-T5.
@ the X-T4 uses the X-Trans V sensor, the X-M5 uses the same X-Trans IV sensor as the X100v, X-T4, X-S20 etc. I've also never heard that about the blacks. I have heard the blues are a bit different between the X-Trans IV and V sensors. Fuji X weekly talks about the difference in the blues often.
@ good idea. I will drop a message there to see if anyone notice that difference too. Cheers!
I'm bit confused with zv e10 n xm5 due to budget constraint and plan to do some cinematography How's zv e10 mark2/1 video quality over xm5? Might need to pair xm5 with gimbal as sony got gyro stabilisation
Personally I'm not a fan of the post workflow with the Sony gyro stabilization. Sure it can get good results but overall I've always felt it's best used as a last case scenario rather than something you should count on using all the time. It's not what's I'd hang my hat on. I think overall you'll get very similar quality results out of both camera. I'd make my design based on the lens mount you'd prefer to invest in for the long run.
@selishots noice
The 15-45 has 3 stops of OIS.
@@fredschmidt8609 OIS and IBIS aren't the same thing. OIS is stabilization on the lens, IBIS is sensor stabilization.
@@selishots Cameras without IBIS should benefit from OIS in the lens for video, true?
@ yes if the lens has OIS the camera will take advantage of it. When cameras have both IBIS and a lens with OIS they talk to each other and with together for even more stabilization. I prefer IBIS because it gives a little stabilization to every lens you use while OIS is lens dependent
I understand. You can double check this. If you do not have IS enabled in the settings your 15-45's OIS will be disabled and the video will be shaky as in your video.
@ most of the video footage was shot on the 18-50 F28-3.5 or 23mm F2. Also had digital stabilization enabled for it.
When you order yours
@@DavidFackrell1 it's a loaner unit from Fuji, unfortunately I have to send it back next week :(
if it had IBIS and weather seal, ill do it
I'd definitely pay a bit more for ibis but that's not a deal breaker. As for weather sealing I think it's a big buzz word. There's no real certification process for weather sealing and it's normal just a few small rubber gaskets. I used the X-M5 in light rain with no issues.
Holy crap that thing is tiny 😂 Excellent photos !
@@KofiYeboah it's really impressive how small it is! I'm gonna have a hard time sending it back to Fuji. I already got my loan extended once 😂. Thanks dude!

Hello! Best video! Congrats! I have recently an a7 IV and I’m thinking about this crop in 4k 60p. Do you think that final video it’s an interpolation of the image information that lens give from apsc format to full frame? Thank you so much!
I believe the final image is just an apsc crop on the full frame sensor. This smaller sensor usage means the processor needs to work less. I'm no expert though
Exxon, lol.
@@beeshepard feel free to critique my pronunciation when you start getting in front of the camera and making content, until then may find something better to do then hiding behind a keyboard. Have a good day!
I’m just starting out and was looking to get a g9 as a first ever camera… how have you found its size? Also you recommended for wildlife but do you think it could hold up well for travel and landscape, very good video!
If you want a smaller camera that's not the G9. It's really pretty averages sized for a mirrorless camera however the lenses are smaller then APSC or Full frame lenses. The G9 is good for landscapes but the 20mp sensor wouldn't be my choice over similar cameras in this price range with better lowlight and higher resolutions. Why not look at the Fuji X-M5 or Sony a6400
@@selishots The xm5 is a little out of my price range but will look into the a6400. Other than size and it being aps-c does it have any benefits over the g9?
@ significant better AF, like worlds better and more lens options and a more popular lens mount with more upgrade opportunity in the future are the big ones.
The GR III doesn't have bad anything. It's just that you are not one of the photographers the GR series are geared toward. Use what works for you. Don't bash a camera just because it didn't work for YOU.
@@IrrelevantThumbnail saying it doesn't have anything bad is naive. Yes some aspects of the GRiii aren't for me but it definitively has bad AF, it definitely has proven issues with dust.
@@selishots As soon as you start using language like "bad" or "good" you are making a value judgment which is necessarily subjective. I had a GR III for a long time and never had issues with dust or autofocus. I am getting a GR III HDF tomorrow and do not expect to have dust issues. As I said, just because it didn't work the way YOU wanted it to work doesn't make it "bad."
@@IrrelevantThumbnailI don’t get why people buy a camera, knowing it’s a fixed lens and then they’re surprised that the focal length is 28mm. I’ve never had an issue with af and I constantly use it with my 2 year old. Just a weird review.
@@IrrelevantThumbnailthis guy doesnt know anything about cameras!
Micro 4/3rd sensors look so weird today. Like Jesus Christ it’s crazy you can get apsc sensor camera for 600 bucks today and slightly smaller then that you can get camera for 300
I just think they don't have an edge anymore, until wen get crazy small M4/3rds bodies it just doesn't make sense. We should have a pocketable M4/3rds Point and shoot already, that would go hard!
@@selishots I still use M4/3rds due to the small size/weight of the lenses, the bodies can only get so small before they become too fiddly to use.
@ yeah hut they can still get smaller and be decent to hold. The G9 is larger then the X-T5 which is apsc and still very comfortable to hold. There's no reason Lumix needs to be making the M4/3rds cameras as big as they are.
@@selishots True, if you want small these days go with one of the Olympus/OM E-M5 models.
I shoot Canon and when I don’t want to take out my heavy R5c I use my phone because it’s so portable. But the shots out of that that camera look really nice
@@YonnyDigital the G9 really isn't much more portable then an A7 or R series camera
You seem a little whiney in this video. Learn to use it. Afraid to leave in your pocket? Serious?
@@D.Trider at least I'm not whining in the comments of a TH-cam video! Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@selishots not whining at all. Just some of your points were a bit off is all.
Thanks! I ordered the professional and the master heated gloves. I live in Northern Ontario, Canada and frequently we hit well below 0 F.
Nice! I've been thinking about breaking out mine soon. It's getting cold here in NYC
You do remember that you can use manual focus?
Yes and manually focusing is super helpful, that being said in autofocus has gotten so good and has really becoming an important part of my shooting style and I value it a lot
@ understood unfortunately sometimes technology fails us in spite of our best intentions. If technology was perfect we would all be like everyone else and just using our phones 🤷🤷. Have a great day
Using olympus 4/3 since the beginning and olympus/oms to this day. But I had a G9 and had a miserable experience with that camera. Luckily i got the extended warranty because i ended up sending it out to panasonic three times where they had to exchange out the camera. And one week after the warranty was over the front dial went bad and panasonic wanted 500 dollars. I will never buy panasonic again. But in almost 20 years never a single issue with a olympus camera.
@@WhoIsSerafin every brands going to have lemons. I get being annoyed about it but don't think it's fare to judge a brand on one experience. OM systems needs to really make some progress this year or they won't survive.
G9 has been my favorite camera ever ❤❤
@@sdhute glad you found a camera you love!
Although, i too have moved to Sony, i still love my G9. It has the best ibis of any camera i have ever used. Way better than the Sony system in my experience. In good light, the G9 rocks in every way. The handling, custom buttons, evf, ibis all make valid, relatively affordable option in today’s market. Can it compete with Sony FF low light ability or AF, no but it still feels so good and balanced in the hand. My only issue was the hair trigger shutter which takes some getting used to. A light breeze fires the shutter! 😂
I remember when I first got it I hated the shutter, took me so long to get used to it! You really can't beat Lumix IBIS!
Earned the sub. What’s the zebra level for you skin tone?
@@MillennialDiligence-sx8re Thanks!!! I'll probably get a lot of crap for this but I don't use zebras. I just go off the image on the screen and my meter. I like to have my screen as clear as possible and having to turn on and off zebras didn't work for me. Is it the best way to do it, no, does it work for me, yes.
It's bloody dead because I want compact GX or EP/EP-L with pdaf. It's a sad time for compact lovers. Even fuji m-x5 is selling well
@@trym2121 yes! If M4/3rds wants to survive both OM systems and Lumix needs to start making compact everyday carry bodies. It's what people want right now. I've for an x100v and it's my most used camera because the size to performance ratio. I've tried the Lumix LX10 and Ricoh GRiii(have videos of both on my channel) and both have to many negatives. The x100v has been the sweet spot for me. I did as of yesterday get a loaner X-M5 from Fuji and after only a day I'm super excited about this camera...maybe just maybe even considering selling my x100v for it but I'll need more time with it before I make that choice! I'll have a video out on the X-M5 in the next month or so!
It's the user not the camera. I have the gh7 and it renders beautifully. There's nothing else to innovate maybe inbody E ND filter ? But that will make the body more bigger and less robust
@@Freep-m2l honestly this is only partly true. A good photographer or videographer can make any camera look good but having a good camera and lens makes way more of a difference then most people would like to admit. I didn't say there's nothing else to innovate on. I said larger sensors have caught up to the innovations. Sure lumix could put some Amazon features in the next generation of M4/3rds cameras but it doesn't seem like that's there big focus right now.
