Neville Chamberlain's declaration of war was one of the most solemn, impactful speeches in modern history. Delivered in clear, concise and measured English , it remains chilling to this day .
Sadly, all he's usually remembered for is holding up a piece of paper, and hoping Hitler would keep his word. He gets so much hate, just for believing he could stop Hitler's ambitions short of armed conflict.
I've been watching "Rob's London" videos for a while and I think that this is one of his best. (As to your claim, Mark, to want to watch his posts on London Pubs, I am surprised that you even like that sort of thing,😀😀😀!) (As I previously stated, I do hope that circumstances improve, not only in your State, but in the USA generally!). (And, yes, many years ago, we, my late wife and our children, did indeed wonder along Downing Street, years before it was closed to the general public, sigh!).
Hi Mark , walked past Downing Street a few times on my way to horse guards which is just down the road . A long and fascinating history enjoyed watching with you 😊.
Mark. Note that the grant of the knighthood was in 1660, just after the Restoration of the King to the throne. So this was a reward given for returning to Loyalty. He was not the only person rewarded in this way. It was long before Charles & others could have known the full extent of his activities.
On my way from Edinburgh to Harwich via London to catch the ferry to Hamburg in June 1976, I killed time between trains by catching the tube to Westminster and having a wander round. It was early in the morning (7.00?) and I was able to walk along Downing Street from Whitehall to Horse Guards Parade: there was not a soul to be seen, not even a policeman on the steps of No. 10. I think I was able to walk it again, with my visiting father, in May 1985, after pedestrianisation, a few years before it was permanently closed off.
Oh, youve found RobsLondon... he has so many really infitmative and interesting videos zbouf our home city. Hello Violet and Leo. Love and hugs to both furries. :) :)
Ted Weaver Hello Mark A very interesting video. 10 Downing Street is probably the most modest building that any country has for its leader. As far as Harvard is concerned,it seams to have lost it's way along with our own Oxford and Cambridge Univerities and many others.Ideology has taken over from Education.
Lord North was the PM who lost the American colony, maybe he was worried about riots and other things like the Industrial revolution. As an ancient being, I remember my father driving us down Downing Street on a dark rainy night, pointing out that's were the PM resides. We were on holiday and going where, I don't remember.
Maggie Thatcher was scared of being attacked by the IRA, having been bombed in Brighton at a Tory Party Conference - but she survived that, though others there did not...and thus the big black fences and gates were installed at the entrance to Downing Street, (which appear to match similar fences and gates at the Horseuards Parade).
alright mr mark , hope you are well and good ,Nothing to do with 10 downing street i was wondering if you might take a watch of Emma Kok singing Voila ,it is one of the most beautyful songs ever . , im an hairy arsed biker and the song brings me to tears every time xx Peace man xxx

Hi Mark- what a despicable being Downing was; nothing changes does it?! Think its his descendant living there now, another despicable being! Seems to have attracted them intermittently over the years. Still an interesting history if nothing else- see you monday Mark off to the flea market tomorrowwill keep an eye out for any postcards - snog those "Larrys" for me !( May all those crash victims rest in peace- thinking of their families at this dreadful tragedy)
I will point out that half the country had fought for parliament and it would have been a problem for Charles the 2nd to hold grudges. If you remember General Monck who assisted greatly in restoring Charles, he had fought for the Royalist's before switching sides, he wound up a Duke.
Another subject but as an Englishman I would strongly advise Canada to accept Donald's offer to become a US state. They talk American. They use the Dollar. They are on the same landmass. I doubt if Britain or the Monarchy means much to them these days. They removed the union flag from their flag a long time ago. Any reference to the King is I fear just a gesture now. Anyway so many of them are of French heritage. They would make a great state.
You’re a gentleman Mark! Thank you so much for featuring my channel 😊
Awesome...thank you Rob for allowing us to learn from your wonderful videos
@@MarkfromtheStates It's a pleasure Mark. Thanks again and stay well.

My elder Brother Eric who was 9 when the war broke out told me he remembers listening to Neville Chamberlain.

Larry is still alive today, I'm pretty sure he turned 17 a few months ago. He must have a good diet living that long....
