Do you know how much calories for the dried ones?
Same as fresh or frozen per piece, not per gram, only water is lost. So measure calls by cups not weight. You can also calculate total weight frozen vs total weight freezedried, then divide and get the cal per grams. (Aka 1000gr = 320kcal, weight after processing is 100 gr, 100gr now contains 320kcal and not 32)

This type of storage is wrong. It needs to be stored in aluminum and airtight packages. Products should not be exposed to sunlight.
These are not being stored long term, we are eating them. Jars with OA are a great short term storage option, Mylar is best for long term storage.
I just made some zoodles today. I find that they tend to get watery when I freeze them, so today I decided to try dehydrating them. Hopefully this works out 🙂
i like adding more spices to peaches rather than sweetener. Cloves and Cinnamon yum

how do u go about vac sealing your powders eg spicers , was told to use a cup cake wrapper when using a jar to stop clogging the machine but i want to buy my spicers in bulk and vac into about 50gram lots in vac bags
You can use a paper towel folded and it will work similar to a cupcake wrapper in a jar.

Make sure and add more dry time if needed. I always check each load when it’s ended to see if they are done.
What is the light syrup?
The freeze dried food can last for a few days while bagpacking in a 100+ degre weather?
Yes most backpacking food you can purchase commercially is either freeze dried or dehydrated

would the syrup stop them from going bitter, as when i preserves mandarin segments they were just bitter.
It’s the pith that can make them bitter.
My freeze dried strawberries are delicious but they are not hard like the ones store purchased from Kroger's or prepping companies . Does anyone know why? Thank you.
@@yvonne5263 if they are soft they either were not dried long enough or moisture was introduced during packaging.

Do all fruits have to be cooked before making fruit leather, or did you just cook the peaches for a softer puree?
@@sharonbracegirdle1005 you don’t have to cook the fruit leather I do as I like a thicker puree so it doesn’t run off the trays and also we like the consistency. ❤️
We live in south Florida and have humidity. No basement. It’s it okay to store food in buckets? With or without malar bags?
Mylar is a must for high humidity, buckets alone won’t protect the food.
Can you share which tree varieties thrived for you? We’ve got cherries, plums, apples and no luck with pears yet.
We are still figuring it out and building our orchard. the local extension office had a document online for varieties that do well in our county, I’ve been looking at that

Will take longer because of the seeds regardless how small you cut them. 30 hours is not long enough unless you eat them right away.
Seeds can definitely be an issue with some foods. I’ve had no issues with strawberries over the past three years of freeze drying though.
How long will it last vacuum sealed in a mylar bag in the fridge?
Do you freeze dry the meats and put them in mylar bags? Do they last 25 years? Would it be better to do it cooked and then if 10 years later you open it up you just heat it up with a bit of water?
With meat you need to be mindful of the fat content, the fat goes rancid quickly. I’ve only done cooked meat products not raw.
How much additional time did you do for your strawberries? Are you ever concerned about drying for too long?
I can’t remember but I typically have mine set for 8 hours in case it finishes when I’m in bed. You don’t need to worry about over drying.

What about putting vacuum sealed items into the food grade bucket ? Would this suffice instead of Mylar ?
Vacuum seal bags are a great option for short term storage
Generator: we've encountered this same issue in cold weather, and this was remedied by pointing a propane heater at the carburetor side of the generator to heat up the components before starting. At work, we carry our generator inside to get it above freezing, before bringing it back outside and starting it real quick before it freezes again. A spray of starter fluid into the air intake has helped too. I recently learned from a guy in Edmonton that people there often store their generators in small tents or sheds, and similarly heat them up before starting.
