The Throwaway Child - The Making of Avalee Solavita (alias)
My beautiful, singing sisters, never let anyone put you down! When others insult or berate you, it is often because they're jealous of you. While that may sound cliche, I have recently discovered just how true it is. I was raised by a narcissistic mother and an alcoholic father. I was the family scapegoat, so nothing that I ever did was right or good enough. I have traveled extensively, served in the military, saved lives, survived a brutal domestic violence assault that nearly claimed my life, graduated college (with honors), and run my own company for the last decade and a half, I am still considered to be the family failure.
If you can relate, please know that you MUST learn to step out of that mindset and find the treasure that we ALL poses inside of ourselves. The greatest gift that you can give yourself is the love that you deserved all along. It has been a long journey for me and I still have quite a distance to go. What's important is that I never stop trying to be the very best version of me that I can be and the same goes for you.
Here are some old videos of me performing as a child (ages 8 and 16). Looking back on them now, I am brought to tears. You see, I thought that I had botched these performances, but when I watch them now, I am SO PROUD of all that I accomplished in spite of being on the Autistic spectrum and being the target of constant psychological torture from my mother and her enablers. I look at the girl on the screen - a girl I once loathed - and I am so proud of her beauty, her talent, her voice, and her endurance! You may not have such videos in your attic, but I challenge you to CHOOSE to believe that you are a wonderful, talented, and valuable person who deserves to be appreciated.
