The thing with devaluing Homemaking is sooo true. Thank you for mentioning it. I live in Germany and yet the government pushes mothers with very young chlidren to go to work(age 1). They do not see the future impact of this on our children or how exhausting it is. There are also still (unfortunately) many men that ask their wives at the end of the day "Why are you so tired?". So it is very important to teach boys from the very young age how to value a stay at home mother's job as much as their job.

We’re overcomplicating things. Less is more. Keep it minimal by applying this method to your life as well. Also, tell friends and family what the little one needs for gifts, I’m sure they usually ask so instead of being polite just tell them.

Getting rid of the toys isn’t about the kidsfreaking out. I can handle that easily. The problem is the toys are from grandparentsthat visit and ask where the toys are they bought them. I hide most of the toys. But when grandma comes to visit, she digs them out and reminds me what she paid for them. I don’t know why grandparents think they can buy children’s happyness but they do.

We have building blocks, 2 doll with pet figures (not the house they always make that up), cars, trains, and 1-1 play cooking stove top with sink which came with some dish, and a lot of play vegetables This all stored in 4 box. and my kids plays for hours. I always had the impression if they need something else they make it from the blocks they have. Or run outside and search for a stone, or use a sock which I discard as have holes they can use for a specific play item. My kids are 4 and 6.

I haven't finished watching the video, but I wanted to share two experiences from my own attempts at this with my three-year-old: 1. She asked me randomly one day where a cup that she had hardly ever used (and not seen for months) was. I said that as she was not using it, I had given it to another child. She was extremely upset and I felt very guilty that I had not asked her opinion. 2. She draws a lot; she had a huge pile of paper with drawings on, and I asked her whether we could go through them, pick some to keep, and throw the rest out. She asked me to throw all of them out. With the cup incident fresh in my mind, I asked her several times and highlighted that once they were thrown out, I couldn't get them back, she was happy with this, and has since happily thrown out piles of paper on a semi-regular basis. What have I learned? An important lesson was to try to understand how my child sees stuff. Things that seem unimportant to me (the cup) might be more important to her. Secondly, as you suggest, I should involve my child in conversations about stuff and how much we keep. I definitely haven't got all the answers (I am very grateful for your ideas!) but I feel more than ever that this process should not be about me chucking out her things, but about us building those skills together.

I would disagree on the trauma aspect: you took this as a step by step with younger children and it seemed very consensual - your daughter remembered the puzzle and hammer and you brought them back out - if it were older children or presented in a form of punishment I would say trauma is not far off of an idea. especially in the sense of loss/ trust and structure each kid is different and each parent will present things differently as well. food for thought love everything else.

My daughter is getting great at letting go for the most part! She constantly gets stuff in the mail from a relative and at this point shes actually getting annoyed by the packages because she realizes that it more stuff that she already has and doesnt need more of- A third backpack after already recieving one from that same relative that had her name on it. Why another? More hats. So much for the yarn we picked out together, intending to knit winter hats. Repeats of the same print socks she got in the mail 2 months ago? Ahh at least my daughter instantly declares all on her own that she will "give them to the poor girl" in our operation Christmas child box.😂

Advice from an ex-content creator, (not this channel I'm commenting from lol) don't be afraid to really take a break this advent season from the list of "to film" and content idea lists, people really don't understand the hours of planning, editing and everything that does into each video. I have three young kids (6,4, and 10 months) and ended up after years of creating, decluttering my channel by deleting it. It was such a sense of freedom and relief, and gave me many hours back and time back with my kids. Deleting your channel may not be the right step for you but I'm just here to say prioritizing rest is hard in this space of content creating, but I'm rooting for you! God Bless.

I myself had like 2-3 toys in my childhood (my parents didn't have much money) and I played like hours with them and created new ones with obstacles which lay everywhere. Now I'm a father of a toddler and had the same experience. Less is more. Nature is good. Provide them a little bit and let them do the rest.

A lot of the arguments you are taking from them like "never argue", I could see go horribly wrong. For example, arguing over how to do something is how the community gets better at things. Does things more optimally. Never arguing leads to never improving. Inuit society hasn't produced geniuses, or the best people at much of anything.
