As a new mom of two little ones I resonate so much with this video. I prefer a capsule, minimal wardrobe as it means less decision fatigue when getting ready in the morning but in this season I’m also having to figure out what works and that means constantly revising what I have in each weather season. Being postpartum for a second time around and now nursing has changed my body a ton so I appreciate your system and what you shared about having grace on yourself as you navigate what you feel best in.

Omg, you are so brave Erika. You’ve done all the work mentally so this is a beautifully curated wardrobe. It translates so well for this season in your life. Well done. I’m so thrilled to be back in the dress/skirt with leggings seasons, myself. xoxo

Thank you for sharing this! I'm expecting my second child and started staying at home with our first child about 2 years. I did not expect how hard it would be to figure out what works clothing wise for this stage of life. It's reassuring to hear that I'm not alone in having to rethink my wardrobe. I also appreciate that while you keep a minimal wardrobe you've made room for things that you love and make a lot of sense for your climate, like jackets! Each jacket gave your outfit a completely different look even though the outfit was otherwise the same. It makes me wonder what in my wardrobe could be both practical for my climate and change up the look of an outfit.

Im really liking your pared down wardrobe, I used to have over 10 coats which I have now reduced to 4, as they were really taking over my wardrobe. My problem is t shirts, but hoping to pare them down this summer.

Your wardrobe looks very much like mine. There are 4 distinct seasons where I live 🇨🇦, but I still have more than enough clothing in my minimal closet.
I can not live without leggings or dresses! I like floral, but feel like most patterns make me look bigger. So I mostly wear solids. One exception is stripes. I love stripes!!
My body is still changing as I'm growing closer to my menopausal years. My waist and thighs are where I carry my weight. Just like you, I have a hard time finding tops that I feel comfortable wearing, especially if they are a shorter length. I prefer not to tuck in anymore.
I don't have a maybe bin. But I do have maybe 2 dresses that still hang in my closet because I love them even if they don't fit. I hope you are able to wear that lovely pleated skirt again soon.
    Have a wonderful Easter!

Man I love those boots. I’m thinking this summer I’m going to rely on dresses and rompers and possibly one pair of high waisted shorts and one pair of flowy black shorts with a few tshirts and tanks like you. I’ll check your dress recommendations! Austin has awesome thrifty solutions so looking fwd to that.

I’d love to know more about the winter jackets, I searched so hard for one this winter but all I found was a wool one, and well… I’m not doing so good with wool these days. Too itchy. 😬
I need a warm non wool option.

And yes, I’m a huge fan of the jeans. They’re always comfortable. They’re an investment piece for sure, so I’ve been waiting to talk about them. I wanted to see how they hold up. I’ve had them for six months and they’re still in perfect shape. Always soft in the waistband and fitted in the legs and tush 😉

@@papertownhome That is so helpful to hear, thank you!! That gives me more confidence in making the investment. I have been wearing dresses and high-waisted skirts almost exclusively since having kids. It would be a dream to have comfortable jeans.

Funny to me, but after menopause, going grey and changing body, I feel the same way - having to relearn how to dress & also colors... due to changes in hair color and my skin changing. I really like your minimal approach and your clothes seem very versatile. For loungewear, sharing some of my approaches: as I shower in the evening, I tend to wear flowy nightgowns with a cardigan over and wool socks... sort to two birds one stone? Night/lounge? But I also like that they are a more feminine as going grey made me feel (for a while) a bit lost in that regard, faded, losing my femininity, which I know in my head is not true, but these are my feelings which had a mind of their own for a bit. So, pretty feminine nightgowns helped me reclaim a sense of being feminine and a sense of myself. I should note here, my typical style is more streamlined and not particularly floral or feminine, and I do not feel comfortable wearing such clothes normally, so nightgowns as loungewear at home became a sort of saving grace during the transition. I also have one pair of floral pj bottoms which I use with a tee shirt and cardigan, also as loungewear around the home. Oh! And I saw one woman somewhere, she had bought a lovely pair of floral pj bottoms and actually was able to use them going out to a nice restaurant with a more elegant top!!! I am not sure I could pull that off, but it is another thought :-) for versatile pieces, potentially. Perhaps a solid color in a satin fabric? Anyway... long enough here, so will wish you the best, have a good one, Lynne

So many gorgeous pieces, and thank you for explaining your thought process behind each one! My favorite pieces of yours are the beautiful linen dress: the square neckline is very becoming! And your denim jacket with so much character. I like how you talk about "forgiving yourself" When I first discovered minimalism, I went with a very neutral "classic minimalist" look, but have since made peace with the fact that I'm an artist at heart and need color and pattern! So I'm now working towards a simple wardrobe that shows more personality. It is an organic, evolving thing!

    • @papertownhome
      @papertownhome  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Organic and evolving is a great way to describe it! And, I expect my wardrobe will always have an element of that. I feel like it's the nature of being a woman. Our bodies change a lot throughout life. And, the industry that produces our clothing is constantly changing styles (and available options) up on us. We have to be flexible.

Thanks for explaning the thought process behind your wardrobe. It is super helpful. I have minimal shoes around 5 pairs but wardrobe is just difficult.
I was very slim at one point and had a lot of clothing from that era. And then i had my prebaby weight, then the postpartum weight. My postpartum clothes are mostly second hand and hand me downs.
And 2 years on ive lost some weight but not down to prebaby. I have way too many boxes of tbd clothes and clothes for when I get pregnant again. It's nuts! So seeing your video is so helpful, thank you so much!

We have a similar amount of clothes apart from I have a couple of oversized cotton overshirts, and several winter scarfs which I wear every year ,if im going out at all which is infrequent I call my daughter and raid her clothes. I love clothes and often if see things my fantasy self would wear however I know I dont have the lifestyle to warrent them and they would stay hung in my wardrobe a guilty secret of impulses😅

Hey hi. Im from India where we dressed based on occasions. Like for traditional events it's sarees or Kurtis and for casual n comforts it's jean n tees. So i have a large wardrobe. 😢😢 it's really difficult to organise and have space for those clothes. Being in postpartum it's even more difficult now.

I'm in the same spot you are irt clothes. My body changes A LOT during my pregnancy (the big stuff like my midsection being forever bigger to my fingers literally going up a size... I didn't even know that was a thing lol). So now I'm in the process of shifting my wardrobe and letting go of what no longer fits this new me.
