Football is about creating space in which to create chances and score goals but it is a very important part of the game to manage the space available to the opposition to do the same. I think so many people ignore that and that's what this series is about. I always feel good at the end of the season when I see my team is the best team in the league in terms of goals conceded and generally that means that the team will be high up in the table or at least over achieving. ​ @fm-oldmanphil Exactly. Prior to every single match i judge my best way to penetrate my opposition defence. It might be closing down a weak-on-the-ball defender, dribbling against a specific defender, or with a specific forward. Etc. If they have a backline 4 i tend to notice their defenders weak foots. against their attack i notice their wingers strong feets, then i know if they are shooting (i will press outside), or if they are crossing i will stop crosses. Clossing down players who lack match fitness tends to work good for me. I allways do opposition instructions my self. Now I will study more about their playing style, and watch your videos acouple of times <3 Thank you

Good question mate...you might have to in season 1 or 2. For example I was playing with a winger on one side once when using the 41221. However the reserve played better as an inverted winger and so I had to adjust the roles and support duties to accommodate him when he played. Doesn't happen often but it can and is something to be aware of. During transfer windows you should only be signing players that fit the way you play so it becomes less of an issue later.

@fm-oldmanphil couldnt it also be used as an advantage since the opposing team will expect you to play your main way but then towards the end you bring on your backup and switch up the roles to confuse them?

I have been a manager in a variety of professions since I was 25 years old, and so having retired at 66 that's a total of 41 years. I spent the last 16 years of working life as a Director of Studies and finally Academic director in the teaching field specializing in teaching teens. I was tasked with training teachers and developing new methodology as well as various other tasks. I'm not sure that it's natural - it's more experience. As to being good at it I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with you, but I want to thank you very much for pausing and taking the time to feedback your thoughts. That was very kind of you. This is great....love it! I just did a livestream with Ipswich and came up against stoke playing in a controlled possession. This is the hardest one to master and it turned out to be a chess game...so cool playing against it....eventually ran out winners by 1-0...very very tough to win...but the changes in the end paid off...great to hear this feedback......thank you

@fm-oldmanphil I also played vertical tikki taka in Brentford I done mid block high line shorter passing high temp won 2-0 slowed pace down

in terms of players....attributes are what make them good or average or not so good. good players with good attributes should in most cases play well over a season. Although not always...I signed Wirtz for example and he had a terrible first season.

good question....i have played this way with a 4231, 352, and 41221 and it doesn't seem to make any difference. But that's not to say that there might be some shape it doesn't work. Let me know

Yes it matters....as well as things like fatigue. But it's not going to have too much of a negative effect...at least I'm not seeing that....good question

really good question and the answer is I don't know. What we are doing here is trying to get the opposition to play in a way they don't want to by limiting their opportunities forcing them to play a different way. It really shouldn't matter how you attack...you set your team up to attack in a certain way and they will get used to that. There doesn't seem to be a reason to change your attacking style. However that could be another video series...attacking against the various AI styles.

thanks for the feedback mate....remember it takes a little while to master this...because you have to use your eyes and remain focussed throughout the match on the I-pad. I'll be looking at how I use the I=pad in game in the next one, but you saw some examples of what I see in the example games in this video

defending against a gegenpress is a bit like defending against a tiki taka. We will be covering that in a later video mate. bottom line is you need bodies in midfield behind the ball...try a low block or mid block against them for now.
