After watching and following your videos for a year or so now, you can definitely see the patterns emerging in the game and this detracts from the “realism” of the game.
I don't want absolute realism Andy...Otherwise we will never win anything.. But it's important that the game doesn't take control away from you for no reason other than you are successful or doing really well. I know the patterns are there and it does concern me a lot...Thanks mate
Thank you to the TH-cam algorithm for recommending this video! I've been playing this game since CM1, but it's news to me that you can play your reserves and youth players and still progress in Europe. I’ll have to test this myself. Thanks for making me think, Phil! 👍
Yes and I did it as part of the livestream...so it's not just me saying it. Out of frustration on my other livestream rebuild of ManUtd - We were 2-0 down so I played McGuire on the left wing, Jonny Evans as the pressing forward and Yoro as the attacking mid! Yoro scored and McGuire got an assist as we came back to draw 2-2 and almost won it! Hey ho lol. That was done live too
Totally agree sir 👍 I remember playing PacMan on a handheld device back in the early 80’s. Once I remembered what moves to make, every level was exactly the same with the same moves to follow but at increased speeds.
Great video, I agree with all the points you made and believe the "Switch" definitely exists. So, thank you for mentioning it as I think most shy away from mentioning it. Another one I would add is to pay attention to league games before a cup match as I feel is another place where the Switch" tends to kick in. Anyway just wanted to say thank you for the video and it will be interesting to see what happens with FM25.
Great points made Phil and I fully agree. I'll suggest a couple more pre determined things I've noticed from my 1000s of hours of FM -Key player injuries before a playoff/big game/final at the end of the season, usually with the player being injured for a few weeks, just enough to miss the game/s but be back for pre season. -AI being far more clinical than you to score with their shots on target, no tactic or GK can stop this. - The "end of season" slump, where you are usually fighting for promotion or a title. Your form for no logical reason (besides scripting) will completely fall off a cliff and suddenly your title/promotion fight will come down to the last day, when you should (according to the previous form) have wrapped it up a few games ago. I've seen this countless times on other's saves and my saves. It even happened to me on the weekend 😂
Thanks mate for the feedback and I agree with your additions. Mine was just one example. Taking those predetermined things out of the game will do us all a favour. The opposition needing far less chances to score than you is something I've banged on about for years. A very good addition!
I totally understand what you mean and I agree, I personally have 2 annoyances with the game that I don't know if these things have bothered you or not, number 1 is the highlights are very predictable and I don't understand why, I am almost always able to predict whether I am going to concede or score just by watching the first few seconds of the highlight, second is I think VAR needs toned down a bit, I know it's prevalent in the modern game but I think it's a little too much in this game, it feels like every 2nd goal the VAR pops up and decides whether it's offside and I'm just sick of it's occurance, I hope they take a back a notch and calm the VAR a little.
I definitely agree about VAR....gets silly at times and you are so correct about the predictability....play it long enough you can see what is going to happen
I don't know why but watching this I can't help but think of that Monty Python clip "Get on with it! Yes, get on with it!". Weird how that came to mind.
My general philosophy is to advocate for more options. In this case, it should be eminently feasible to have a 'console mode' for the 'new 'audience whilst retaining a 'data mode' for us old-skoolers.
i love your insights here, especially the european drop you speak about. Currently experiencing this in my third season and thought I was doing something wrong. I do think you might be on to something in the dumbing down of the game. I am truly excited but also worried for the future and hope FM25 isn’t released for the sake of it. Love the video and your commentary is excellent.
I don't think it can be...it's too regular and doesn't fit what goes on... understand what you are saying....but really not sure what it is...seems out of place
@@fm-oldmanphil I hope they fix it. My biggest gripe is when you sim through the off-season to the next season and you check your inbox, you suddenly see a player has wanted to talk to you about a concern and you ignored him and now he is unsettled and wants to leave. I wish they would have the player go to one of your assistants as you sim through May to July.
I totally agree with you phil, the new game is trying to be appealing to people of my age group (u20). They're trying to simplify the game but really if anything, they're pushing away the people who love the complexity of the game, such as you and I. I believe that if SI oversimplify the game, it will be too similar to something like fifa and ruin its unique feel, what do you think?

I am quite worried about the user interface as well. I have never downloaded a "skin" before, but I may need to for this next one because it looks very geared to controller-users instead of as you said, the spreadsheet game. I agree that the most important thing for me in a game like this is having the feeling of control, that the choices I make before and during a match have an effect. Whether those choices are data-driven transfer targets, or tactical/squad decisions, autonomy is key.
Agreed totally with all points you make...the issue is that skins will not be available for some time...the new format means they will need to be made from scratch. It may be FM 26 before they are available...hope not though!
Last thing any FM players wants is another fifa . I play FM cos I despise fifa 😂. Fm and fifa have completely different player groups . If I wanted to play fifa I would . Companies always pursuing the 'wider ' audience never seems to end well
Sadly I agree with you and I hope I am proved wrong. I'm sure fancy graphics will make up for the losses that will inevitably incur. I so hope I am wrong
Great video! You are definitely more of an in-depth player than I am but I have loved being a casual player of the series for about 12 years now but I share a lot of the same issues you do, especially with the future of the series. I don’t expect the upcoming iteration of the game to be up to standard to justify a release and why should we, as lovers of the game, justify purchasing the game when there is a chance that they try to release FM26 on the usual schedule… It will be very disappointing if they go towards a “FIFA career mode” direction because that’s not what the player base wants. A console version should 100% be the “demo” for new players.
Should be remembered that the codebase of fm24 is 20 years old and it has many cludges over time and there's only limited time to improve things and i expect some things to be very difficult to change due to the age. Hopefully the new game will gradually improve. I think it will be rough at first, but given time as they get more experienced with unity.
I know it’s not the point you’re making, but I too was thinking the other day why handball isn’t in the game, but believe it or not, later that day I had a penalty given against me for handball!
I think it just isn't modelled, and so it doesn't get mentioned much. They'll have more flexibility with the new game, but it may be rough for the first few years.
@@fm-oldmanphil yes I think so. You know when there’s a foul from a corner for a ‘push’ but you can’t actually see what happens, it just a pile of bodies and the ref gives a penalty… it was essentially that but the writing at the bottom said player x handled the ball
Darn right Phil with the direction of the game. It's why I already decided to quit and found another game to replace it. The final straw for me was the permanent removal of shouts with no intention to reimplement them. By removing my ability to make an effect from the sidelines, it's no longer an in depth management game. (And it's going in the direction it will no longer be one). The irony was their screenshot of advertising FM25 had a female manager actively on the touchline!! Plug and play exploit tactics will be even more effective as a result. (great for the younger audience they are indeed targeting) For someone that's played the game for a couple of decades it's sad to see the game has completely changed direction and it's target market. But nowadays all firms only exist for their own benefit, and in the case of FM it's no longer about producing the most realistic management sim (which used to be SIs aim). It's all about profitability, and a key element is being able to make a simplistic version that will be easy to replicate each year over different gaming platforms. FM has been regressing over the last few years as it is, and I guess this will be the game done for the gamer wanting a more in depth management experience. The only hope, is once those younger gamers have become experts and regular buyers of the game, at the point they may want a greater challenge, they might bring in things that will gradually increase the complexity of the game. But that's a long way a way if they eventually go down that route, and will always have its limitations based on the platforms they are mass producing the game for.
Have they really removed the touchline Shouts? I thought it was bad enough when international management got removed, but this is ridiculous at this point. I'm sure many people including myself would rather stick to fm24 and just get a data pack of new players
@@ZSM_11 I think that's why there seems to be some fellas on Sortioutsi that are charging for updates, but think they are planning to do this each year as there will likely be players that won't want to move to the next FM series.
