Mount Index Traverse
After many years of being intimidated by the cliffs of Mt. Index from HWY 2, Ian and I finally put on our big-boy pants for the traverse. After completing, I think this route is a classic. It is a great objective for tough WA climbers. Just make sure you have the necessary skills and are up to the task...

Ian and I took a 5-day trip to AK to climb one of the big routes in 50 classics. We were the first to climb this route since the Smiley's 11 years ago. Mount Fairweather has absolutely amazing position only 10 or so miles from the coast, and the scenery was incredible the entire way up. We were the only people in the range for the duration of the trip, and we had pretty decent conditions/weathe...

Great job guys! Love the closing song!!
@@DJ-pp9yg Thanks! Me too
beautiful footage, so many memories of that rotten rock
Great video thanks for putting it together
Your videos are great man!! Super inspiring to see the level of climbing expertise too!
Great video and climb. Love the relaxing soundtrack too. Very classy. Be safe! :)
Awesome work guys!
@@jacobmchenryphoto Thanks man!
Thank you for sharing footage of places that I think I’ll never be able to climb😂 I enjoy your video a lot. I take risk but you guys are so hardcore.
@@awlongman We aren’t too hardcore! Just trying toprogress little by little
Fellow climber here. Anyone wanna try to climb it Labor Day weekend?
Flying drones in Wilderness areas is a no no.
Very impressive. Would be super cool if you filmed some of the technical aspects like setting up some of the raps and anchors
@@samuelbuettner1214 yes I’ve been trying to do that more and more. It’s tough to film since those are usually the more intense parts
Bad ass dude! I mean this in the nicest way possible when I say some of that looks heinous lol
@@ryanb8161 it was quite heinous😂
Legendary! Great video!
Awesome work. Middle/North are legendary blue collar climbs.
Thank you for sharing. It is a route I will never climb but always dreamed about.
Hi Eli. Great video. I'm heading to Alberta next month hopefully and have a few questions I'd like to ask about the route, climbing gear, etc. Would you mind answering a few of them? Let me know the best way to contact you or use my email address above. Cheers!
@@RickTaylor-i3z thanks Rick! DM’ing me on instagram is best. @eeelip
@@Eeelipclimbs I've messaged you on this. Hope you got it.
@@RickTaylor-i3z I did not. Can you try again?
Great trip breakdown! I oughta do this soon
You should! It was not as scary as reputed. We just finished North Index, which a lot of people compare this to, and I thought that was much steeper and scarier.
Have you actually seen any remnants of our camps?
No, when did you climb?
@@Eeelipclimbs 15th til 20th of may 24. Did you see our video (the other comment)?
@@UdoKellner Oh yes! You came up from Grand Plateau correct? We did not see your camp. And I have not seen your video. You should comment a link!
Hello Eli, really great film, top performance from both of you! The weather was mixed, which really enhanced the performance. We met on the ferry in May, which made me very happy. My film of our ski ascent has been on TH-cam since today, so I had seen your more spectacular film. My video: th-cam.com/video/ux5E6cJDxPQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kIPYtA3PcJ4MZP2H I love to see your other views of the mountain on the tougher tour and hope you like my film too. I will definitely share your film. Greetings Udo from Germany
This is a great video, but for those who don't climb, be aware that is clearly a climb with class 5 terrain. If you don't know what that means than you should not attempt thst mountain.
Awesome vid
great video - but - that music is so out of place/annoying.
@@connell212 It’s very tough to find free music that fits the specific vibe, so my selection is limited. Trying to find more, but this music still reflects my experience better than dubstep found in most other climbing videos.
Great job! You crushed it 👏 good job dad😅
Death wish without helmets on. Rocks are always coming down.
Thanks for sharing. I climbed Fairweather in 2007 with Mountain Trip. I didn’t film it just all photos but that’s the memory I have. Took same plane. Got very lucky with weather. Respect that you followed rules with drone.
Criminally under subbed!!
VERY good stuff all around!!
Yep! I watch a lot of this kinda stuff and have no I idea what took so long for you to pop up. Glad it happened. I know dick about filming/editing but you have a good mix; some talking while climbing, chill music not overbearing crap and really dig the break down at the end. I'm a PA guy (59) headed to Shuksan and Baker next week for the first time. Well done!
Ha. Guess I just repeated myself. Told you I was getting old🫤
Fantastic video. Those rimes are insanely nice, well done lads
Good Stuff and thanks for posting! New sub. Hoping to hit the top Baker and Shuksan third week of July. I'm from PA and do some ice climbing in NH but have never really been on a glacier. Guess that's about to change!
Those will be great first peaks! Especially Shuksan. Good luck!
Hard to believe 2 dudes can go do this for less than $5000… it’s world class IMO… amazing video. ☮️
@@WW-sj7zk thanks! Yeah that’s about as cheaply as it could be done unless you live in Haines or something.
Great informative video! Any tips for someone planning a solo assiniboine climb in 2025?
You got it! Find a GPX track and Make sure you get a hut reservation.
@@Eeelipclimbs Sounds good, thanks. I look foward to it, hopefully dry conditions when I go. But I plan on bringing snow and ice gear just in case.
Great story, good technical narrative after climb. Beautiful mountain scenery. Thx for sharing your expedition, liked the music too.
Thoughtful comment. Thanks man!
If the will and desire to climb is there - climb. The climbing communities over (and under) justifications and philosophy is weighing unnecessary weight on the simple means of intuition and passion. The great apes try to out smart themselves (usually out of fear). Be the light and chase it while you can (doesn't have to be climbing - but isn't anything all the same anyway? A choice with ultimate consequence). Sick climb.
Leave the drones at home dude
This is the stuff my buddy and I talk about doing but are nowhere near good enough to do. Awesome trip, awesome video.
Thanks 👍
Excellent video and an inspiring message at its conclusion. Congratulations on the incredible accent and adventure. Glad it all worked out regarding the tense flight situation and dynamic weather. Hope to see you soon!
Thanks brotha!
I coulda used some glasses like that. My nose was burned to a crisp on Adams.
Ha. Yes although I will say sunscreen looks less dorky
I've made it to the top with a subaru forester. Rough going
Informative and super helpful. Thanks for making the effort to share.
Super helpful report and filming. Usually, it is just a video of some guy's feet or the wall from two feet away. I also appreciate the advice on free climbing most of it. The bit at the end explaining things and the chart was golden. BTW, the Trango Tech's would be a good boot for this type of climbing. They are lighter, have more flex and moe comfortable. I think the extreme's might have been a bit overkill from what I saw.
Thanks for the positive comment! And yes, Techs may have been better for this easy of climbing. Unfortunately I only have money for one set of mountaineering boots at a time, and the Extremes held up pretty well for winter and more difficult excursions as well. We both use the Aequilibriums now.
Tsk dropped the skis off way too early
You need to more speed . Then you jam down
Nice work nailing a tough climb. It looks like you had really spectacular conditions.
Aren't drones prohibited in the Baker Wilderness?
This guy has a habit of flaunting the law when it comes to drones. Just look at his Mt. Alberta (which is in Jasper National Park) video - drones are very clearly prohibited in National Parks in Canada, yet that video is full of drone footage. So this video having drone footage obtained in an area where drones are prohibited is very much “on brand”. *Edit: It’s entirely possible, though unlikely that they had a permit for drone use in this case. They claimed ignorance when they were called out on the Mt. Alberta example.
It’s footage from starlink.
Good stuff man, cool video
Thanks Charlie👍🏻
