    I have to disagree. Benchmade edges don’t come very good from the factory at all. Especially the freek. The edge on the freek is trash for durability until you break through the bad edge. I have heard you have to do 15 new edges before you get to properly treated m4 steel that acts the way it’s supposed to.

    "Had" one since the CX was launch... like 10 years ago. Thought that had lost it a few weeks ago... so bought a new one. Currently 2022's CX does not have that carbon fiber finish. Not sure what material they use now.. Some sort of pastic or composite with black matte finish. Thats the only component that looks cheaper. Beside that everything is the same. Happily found yesterday the old one! So now I have a spare one. :) Beside so many years of every-day-use is still in great shape compared to new one. Black steel frame has a few hard to notice scratches. Also minor signs of wear in edges that makes friction in pocket. Blade of corse lost it shine but still great. Only some rust appeard on main bolts and indentation of pliers. Overall, its in mint condition. And best pocket knife / multitool I ever had!

      That it does. 3 main differences with the rx. 1) the serrated blade for the rx 2) the red color for the rx. I prefer the look of the cx and the non serrated blade. However I also understand that the serrated blade is much more useful especially when trying to cut the seat belt etc. I use the skeletool cx as an edc. wondering when you have a multi tool in hand do you really need a glass breaker. I've never use a glass breaker before but I would imagine using the tip of plier to hit the glass will do the same? At the close position the bit covered by the frame so it makes the glass breaker fast deployment useless. Once the tool is open wouldn't be better just hit the glass with the tip of the plier? thanks for making the video, I'm just brain storming and not want to spent extra money to buy unnecessary items. I'm in the processing of buying this tool so just studying more about it.

    • @dadapprovedreviews466
      @dadapprovedreviews466 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would get the tool first, see how it fits in your rotation, and then get the glassbreaker tip later on if you still need or want it. What you stated makes sense but frankly I don't know how effective the plier head would be without having tried it. When I was doing research I compared the CX to the Rx and noticed the blade steel was different, along with a serrated blade and the glassbreaker tip that comes with the Rx. I went with the CX and I am happy that I did but I also splurged and got the tip. I have a few other leatherman tools and I knew that the accessories are compatible along the leatherman tool line so I justified the purchase. But if you are a gear head like me I know that there are several items on your wishlist. Get the skeletool first and u can always add later as needed. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the skeletool as much as I do!

      A bigger issue is that cars use increasingly more lamination, even on sides, and breakers don't work on them, you need to create an entry point and than saw, like with the vitorinox rescue tool. Ok to have, have it on some flashlights as it can be a "tactical" gimmick there, but would not purchase a tool for that unless it has other options specific for rescue.

    • @casek6930
      @casek6930 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep. A large portion of them do not work and that is a huge problem when you have a guaranteed solution at the other end of the tool. It will likely cost you valuable time during an emergency that need not have been lost because you have a KNIFE! That's not to say that none of them work, and the ones that do are actually a faster and safer cut than a knife, but the chances that it's just a non-functional gimmick feature is probably 98%. I've even seen exclusive SBC tools that do not work. A serrated knife is your best bet. To sell a non-functional life-saving tool is pretty low on the list of unethical behavior.

    Do you EDC it?

    • @dadapprovedreviews466
      @dadapprovedreviews466 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have found that I EDC the smaller, lighter, and pocketable leatherman skeletool much more often. Simply out of convenience.. The pocket clip on the skeletool makes it so easy to slip in and out of the pocket. Having said that, when I do work around the house, I have the TTI with me. Recently I had to swap out the doorbell transformer for my home located in the attic because the original one was not strong enough for the nest hello video doorbell. I also swapped out our doorbell chime box. This means very basic electrical work and screwing and unscrewing things. Because I was in the attic I did not want to go back down to grab my Klein tools for the basic electrical work. I pulled out the TTi and used it instead. I was pleasantly surprised by how great it worked at stripping the wires and I was able to use it for the installation. The exchangeable bits helped as well. The blade was great at slicing and cutting. Note: I dont work in a trade. If I did I would definitely edc either this, the charge or charge plus, or likely the heavy duty surge. I use tools because I enjoy renovations and projects around the home. When I am painting or working with drywall mud I try not to pull out the TTi because I dont want to sit there and have to clean everything off. I can also see ppl keeping this in their car glove compartment or in their go bag. Although it is a little bit on the pricier end to just stash it as an emergency tool. Lastly, ppl who enjoy the outdoor and camp and hike. I can foresee ppl putting it to good use. I hope this info helps. Ty for watching and the question.

    I have a Ken Onion Blur which was my first EDC and really made me fall in love with Kershaw and knives in general. I recently snagged a Benchmade Griptillian which I absolutely love. The difference is the AXIS mechanism which I have to say is a game changer for me especially for quick deployment and redeployment versus the traditional liner lock style mechanism. Curious if the pros of this knife outweigh the cons (liner lock versus AXIS)? The Hinderer is very appealing but it’s also quite a bit more expensive, just curious if it’s worth it especially with the liner lock? I feel like now that I’ve become comfortable with the AXIS style mechanism whenever I go back to my Kershaw I feel as though the deployment/redeployment is a bit cumbersome and I miss that quick action. Any input would be greatly appreciated, and great job on the review as well! Thanks!

    • @dadapprovedreviews466
      @dadapprovedreviews466 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First off thanks for watching the video and leaving this comment. Welcome to the never ending addiction/hobby/researching of knives. I like how you started with the blur and then got the griptillian. Kershaw knives offer a lot of value for their price point and the blur is a pretty good knife. The benchmade griptillian is also an extremely popular knife and for very good reasons. The size, weight, and the axis lock make it a very good all around knife. The strike against benchmade knives is that ppl complain about the price point. Having said that, the griptillian is at a good price point and not on the extremely expensive side of the benchmade lineup. I bring the summaries of both the blur and the grip up because they offer a good amount of value. Essentially, you don't have regret because you didn't have to fork over a ton of money for quality knives. With the ZT titanium, I think there is an expectation that because it costs at least twice as much as the grip or several times more than the blur, there is a direct relationship to the satisfaction you would have with the ZT. Meaning you would like the ZT titanium 3x more than the grip or 5x more than the blur. Dont get me wrong, the ZT is a great knife but you have to know what you are getting. It is a sturdy and reliable knife made with high quality materials. Like you noted, it has a liner lock and so you would have to close the knife with both hands. The flipper opens with a thwack but if you are holding the knife in the wrong place, you would restrict the opening of the blade. Once you get accustomed to the ZT, then you figure out where to position your hand when manipulating the knife. Judging by your enjoyment of the griptillian and the axis lock it appears that you appreciate the fidget factor of a good knife. The axis lock excels with the fidget factor. The ZT on the other hand is not a fidget type knife. When it opens, it opens with purpose and let's you know it is GO time. When I saw knife reviews of the ZT I immediately knew I wanted to add it to my collection because of the ZT build, warranty, and premium materials and blade stock. Having said that, I find that I dont carry it often. I think because it is over the 200 dollar mark and made of premium materials, I dont want to "ruin" it. Not that I really could because ZT's are built like a tank. But if I did something to it or if I lost it, that would bother me so I actually find that I do not carry it around that often. The same with my carbon fiber benchmade osborne. It is a nice knife, but the carbon fiber osborne and the ZT are more of a gentleman's knife. I tend to carry it on days that I know I won't be doing anything that would potentially require hard knife use. Also, like you, I do enjoy the fidget factor of a knife and I would not say that the ZT titanium ranks high with that respect. Do i like the knife? Yes. I do like the knife and I do not regret my purchase. However, if you are looking for a knife to add into your edc collection I would highly recommend that you visit your local retailer and get your hands on one first. Interestingly enough, I find that I carry the benchmade bugout or the leatherman skeletool quite often. The reason being, I dont feel guilty about putting them to good use and they rank high in pocketability. When I need a beefier knife I grab the spyderco paramilitary 2 or my benchmade super freek with m4 steel. If I need to do something that I have to put a knife through rough use then I grab one of my cheaper knives. I dont want to dissuade you from getting the ZT or think that I dont like the knife. You cannot go wrong with a ZT. However, consider how it will fit into your knife collection. Like you, I have my eyes on some specific knives but I haven't made the plunge as of yet. Lastly, you may want to check out the kershaw link. It does not have titanium but it does feature the same steel 20cv and is priced around 80 dollars and has the liner lock. Essentially a competitively priced kershaw version of the ZT knife. Being that ZT is Kershaw's premium brand, there is an obvious overlap between the companies. I hope this info helps!

      @@dadapprovedreviews466 First off thank you for the thoughtful and thorough response, it’s much appreciated! You really hit the nail on the head in regard to the “fidget factor”... I’ve had my Blur for nearly 3 years now and it’s been an absolute delight in every way... Factor in the extremely reasonable price tag as well as the fact that it’s made in the USA, the value is incredible in my opinion... Although I may be a novice in the knife world, I really can’t speak highly enough about the Blur and the experience I’ve had with it thus far... That being said it really is about the experience for me... I am a baker and I use my knives day in and day out hence my desire for efficiency and practicality... I also love the fidget factor because even when I’m not using my knife I constantly have it out opening and closing it so that’s why I really fell in love with the Grip... On that note what I can see distinguishing between the two knives is despite my absolute love for the AXIS mechanism I can definitely say that I prefer the blade profile of the Blur. I love Ken Onion’s designs, i.e. the recurve, and frankly I feel as though the blade itself seems sharper, and although thinner than the Grip blade, still just as rigid and durable... I wish I could get the AXIS mechanism with a Kershaw or Onion blade because that would be a dream for me! All in all you definitely gave me a lot of food for thought and I am actually going to order the Link per your suggestion... In regard to the Zero Tolerance, Hinderer etc. I definitely think I’m going to wait before investing in that high end of a knife, it’s just not practical for me at the moment but it’s definitely something I’ll have on the back burner for when the time is right futuristically. Thanks again for the reply, I love knife talk and not many people in my inner circle appreciate it as much as I do lol.

    The SOG Power Assist Multi-Tool is far superior to this LM, especially its pliers - the force is greatly increased by their gear drive mechanism. I believe they're noticeably less expensive.

      Leatherman will always be better than sog in Terms of multi tools. Leatherman has superior quality to that of sog. I've returned numerous sogs due to poor quality and craftsmanship. Leatherman and victorinox are the only tools I have ever had where I never had to return or replace anything.

      I have to admit, I did do some research into sog tools and I do like some of the items in their lineup. I will have to give them a try one day. Having said that, I am more curious to get my hands on a victorinox swisstool or comparable multi tool.

      Haha, sog ain’t got nothing on leatherman... the plier heads alone on the high end leathermans are on par with knipex.. sog is a cheap Chinese alternative, but only cheap in materials as they are very pricey.. they have some gimmicks, and that’s about it

      Leatherman makes the best plier-based multitools. SOGs are toys.

      Congrats! I have had this knife for a few months now, and I have to say that i have zero regrets with my purchase. It is an impressive knife. Also, you picked it up right in time because from my understanding the super freek has been discontinued and it is getting harder and harder to come by retailers who still have them in stock. Let's hope the rumors are not true.
