Brown, Neal, Gregg and Brendle Emerge As 2021 Champions
Tim Brown became the first 11-time champion in the long history of Bowman Gray Stadium, joining Tommy Neal, Billy Gregg and Brandon Brendle as 2021 division title winners when the famed quarter-mile concluded its season on August 21, 2021.
Rattling The Rollcage host Randy Pettitt was there as the track's public address announcer and narrates a recap of the 2021 season finale, covering the title races and special awards in each of the track's four divisions.
All four division point leaders heading into the finale were able to hold serve and emerge as 2021 champions despite a full moon and a host of challengers.
Burt Myers' tussle with Brandon Ward in the 150-lap Modified finale overshadowed Jonathan Brown's first pole and second victory of the season. Burt Myers ended up eight points shy of a what would have been a record-tying fifth straight title at the Madhouse. Instead, Tim Brown rocketed ahead of Myers for fifth place in a late restart and became the first to 11 championships at NASCAR's oldest venue for weekly stock car racing.
Zack Ore won the 40-lap Sportsman finale, ending the season tied with Tommy Neal for the point lead at 522 each. Neal won the tiebreaker for the most victories during the season, 3-2, and hoisted the championship trophy for the second time of his career. Fan favorite Amber Lynn finished second in the 40-lap race and third in the title competition, just 10 points off the top.
Billy Gregg was the only 2019 champion at BGS to repeat. He easily won the Street Stock division's 20-lap finale and captured his third track title along with a clean sweep of all but one of the division's special awards. There was no 2020 racing at Bowman Gray Stadium due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Brandon Brendle was the victor in a 15-lap Stadium Stock race and sewed up his first championship on the flat quarter-mile oval that is situated around a football field in a municipal stadium near downtown Winston-Salem.
Stadium Stock competitor Wyatt Sapp finished fifth in that division's final standings, earning him a "Rookie of the Year" award over Modified driver John Holleman IV (ninth in his division) and other challengers.
Holleman, Michael Adams (Sportsman), Taylor Robbins (Street Stock) and Chuck Wall (Stadium Stock) were voted by fans as "Most Popular Drivers" in a season-long balloting.
Bowman Gray Stadium began hosting NASCAR sanctioned weekly races in May of 1949 and plans to continue as the flagship venue for the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts weekly racing series in the spring of 2022.

I’ve really enjoyed this channel this summer! As much as possible, I’ve spread the word to all my 60+ year old BGS fans that, as did I, got addicted to the place in the early 70’s! It’s very rare that I get to any speedway these days due to my wife’s health condition, and to be honest, I’m more fond of the older stuff like 70’s and 80’s, but you’ve done an excellent job of mixing what’s hot in 2021 with stuff like the Johnson brothers, Ralph Brinkley etc., and that should draw subs from a large pool of fans! One thing I’d like to see during the off season would be a show with the person/persons who ARE BGS Racing! When I first started going there, Mr. Hawkins was “The Man”, then I think it was something like the Piniless (?) family, but I have no idea who controls/owns it now. Of course that might be by design! Ha! There’s probably some very interesting stories, funny and tense, about what goes into putting on this longtime summer tradition of racing! Thanks Randy! Keep em comin!

When they write the history of BGS racing, these two should fill at least 2 chapters of it! Johnny got into modifieds at what I consider the most interesting era. The 70’s saw classic coupes and a few coaches share the track with Vegas, Pintos and Gremlins and many of the older cars were still running straight front axles with the transverse leaf spring! Back then, I pulled for Johnny, and booed Jimmy with just as much gusto, but they are both masters of that flat 1/4 mile! Glad they are both doing well, and thanks to both of them for all those great years of exciting us! Another good one Randy, and I especially enjoyed hearing the origins of some of they cars they each raced! There’s a lot of unsung heroes from back in that era that built these cars, Hank Thomas, William Mason etc., and it would be interesting to hear some of their stories also! Beasts like Ralph Brinkley’s “Corvega” assuredly have an interesting story behind them! Keep em coming, and thanks!

I’ve been spreading the word of your channel among race fan friends of mine, telling them what a great job you do of covering the madhouse, and to a lesser extent, Ace! Once again, thanks for digging up old photos, this time the Billy Hensley pic with him seated in that cool coupe! I’d love to see you add a “clip from the past” to your weekly program if you have a good source for them! Years ago, the track photographer was (I think) T. Taylor Warren, and I’ve often wondered where all those thousands of pics from his years of shooting the BGS races are at? They used to call him “Goat”, and that was back in the days when Lewis Compton was the announcer at BGS & Martinsville Speedway! Thanks for the video, and let me be the first to request that your “surprise” outfit not involve a Speedo! Ha!

Really enjoying this channel! I attended my first BGS race in 1971 as an 11 year old, and have been a big fan of Ace Speedway since it was brought back to life in the 80’s as a dirt track! I don’t get to the tracks much anymore, but your show allows me to keep up with what’s going on! Pee Wee Jones was one of my favorites right off the bat years ago along with Max Berrier, Perk Brown, Billy Hensley and a Brinkley fellow you might have heard of! Ha! The story of how Ace Speedway came to be in the 80’s would make a really good episode! Finding an abandoned speedway to circumvent a county ordinance against NEW racetracks was pure genius, and the shows put on by Larry Isley, Ray Tucker, Larry King and others on dirt were great, and the change into an asphalt showplace was stunning! I’ll never forget those great Barry Beggerly/ Todd Massey battles! I’ll shut up now, but thanks Randy!

You claimed in a past video you learned a lesson Randy about reporting on things you don't know first hand. Like the night you announced Ernie Ervin had passed away..On this video you claim numerous dead people voted in the 2020 election and they were all Democrats.. Well I guess you assumed all race fans are Republicans and we would find humor in what you said. I know for a fact that was just another conspiracy theory to undermined the election. Reporting on facts instead of your opinion will help you keep viewers. You have a right to a opinion but to cast it out for the viewers wasn't right so personally I won't be watching your videos.. Stick with BGS racing and leave the politics out of it. Its really sad that someone your age would be Nieve enough to believe anything the Trump administration claims after the mountans of proof he lies more than he breathes.. Good luck please wise up...
