  • Tim Brown took sole possession of the point lead on July 24th with his 94th victory at the Madhouse and Zack Clifton emerged as the final survivor of a 100-lap Sportsman main event.
Check out this episode as Rattling The Rollcage host Randy Pettitt describes why the Madhouse lived up to its reputation once again, with a thrilling finish in the Colors Edge Sportsman 100 and perhaps the first shots fired in a Street Stock war at the famed quarter-mile.
Out front proved not the place to be in the closing laps of the Colors Edge Sportsman main event, which was riddled with false finishes. Reigning champion Justin Taylor led most of the way, but was knocked out of contention when Spencer Martin made a bold move for the lead.
To the delight of a huge crowd, Taylor retaliated, clanging into the Spencer machine under the ensuing caution flag -- prompting a game of chase that led both cars to the pits and out of contention.
Point leader Tommy Neal started to flex some muscle in the late stages, before a flat tire caused chaos, messing up his chances and those of fan favorite Amber Lynn.
In the final false finish of the race, Kyle Southern was attempting to hold off a hard-charging Zack Ore and Kirk Sheets when all three machines parted like the Red Sea and Zack Clifton drove untouched for his first victory in a 100-lapper at Bowman Gray Stadium. It was the 23rd Sportsman victory for Clifton, a former champion and son of division legend Ronnie Clifton.
In the Modified action, Tim Brown kept the pole from a July 17th rainout and led all the way in the first 25-lap race. Brown drew 10th in the Madhouse Scramble drawing, leaving NASCAR Truck series regular Danny Bohn on the pole for race two. Bohn easily handled runner-up Jason Myers in the second race for his 15th victory at BGS.
Brian Wall inherited victory in a 20-lap Street Stock race when first-finisher David Creed's car was disqualified for an unspecified rules violation. Point leader Billy Gregg was among several drivers who left fuming over a series of wrecks and paybacks in the topsy, turvy race.
The Slim Reaper Grayson Keaton finally broke the ice and won a Stadium Stock race for the first time in 2021 at the Madhouse. He pulled to within two points of division leader Brandon Brendle, with several other strong contenders lurking close by.
Isaac Harris had to wait a few days before he was declared winner of the other Stadium Stock race. It was his very first start at Bowman Gray in any division for the 14-year-old son of veteran racer Rock Harris.
Although it was not confirmed by the track or officials, rumor in the pits was someone protested whether young Mr Harris actually had reached his 14th birthday yet -- a NASCAR requirement to compete on the famed quarter-mile.
