Over the last couple of months I have had a lot of success on the river for both Chub and Barbel.

Why to thay all copy each other all the time have not got the brain to make something nuw
Brilliant you put things over so well and explain everything in just the right amount of detail. Well done keep it going and thank you.👍👍👍
Great video I have 1 question the bolt and run kits, is the hoop that goes on the main line can it break as the ones that Matt Collins uses break around 10lb incase of snags? Also can I use rig tubing with the bolt and run kits
The ones that break have a tiny plastic insert in that snaps under pressure. These will break but not at 10lb.
Thank you for detailed tutorial, it's what beginners need. Great job! I do only one thing differently, instead of tying and storing such long hooklinks, I use 4" method feeder hooklinks and 50cm link with anti tangle sleeve on one end and Korum quick snaps on other. That so called feeder link is easy to tie even on the bank and I still get to use all my various method feeder hooklinks. In both river and method feeder fishing I mostly use size 10 feeder hooks so this suits me fine.
Nice one, Westy. Good informative vid this one. I agree on the 3 knots, too. Generally, all I use as well.
Thanks for the tutorial. Just ordered the bolt and run kit from you and looking forward to giving it a go soon. Very useful being able to just get the bits from you and follow your instructions.
I like helicopter rig 60g lead down on bottom with 2 feet hooklenght dancing 3feet off bottom. 5-6 Maggots on hook size 14, and sling every 30sec 5-6 maggots upstream. You can even twich line for better detection. Bites every cast, very active and fun fishing. For bigger fish, i go 20cm braid 30lbs, mesh full of partickles 80g lead, night fishing (9pm till 5am). Led signal holders, 1m off bank brush. Earthworsms on hook 8. Carp, bream, barble, catfish, chub, perch...all fish love worms in river🤷🏻
Excellent video and a great use of your recovery time rather than freezing on the bank. Just got one of your rig kits so I can have a go at these rigs. The only thing I might do differently is use some slightly heavier Fluor .
Only thing with fluorocarbon is it’s quite stiff so can be quite unnatural in the flow of a river so bare that in mind 👌🏻 they do more supple versions
Good point. I always worry about rigs wafting into snags. I think I’ll tie up some supple 12lb ones as well and compare the two. Experiment makes fishing interesting doesn’t it?
Great vid Westy!
Westy, what size cage feeder do you use ?
Depends on the river. For the Ribble 4/5oz , but if you find some slow slack water then 30g you need a range of options.
Need a weak link between feeder/lead to run ring .if you get snagged and pull for a break you could lose everything.
👍👍
Westy thank you for showing us Huw to set this link I’ve just started back after many years away and everything as change in fishing it’s like starting from scratch
Yes westy your rig help catch my pb barbel😊
That little portable table your dad was using looks a handy peace of kit.wat table is it. I could do with something small and portable like that my self
Ey up Westy, maybe have a go at designing some Blue, Raspberry flavour wafters (like the blue, raspberry Pop ?) I used to catch well with Blue Maggots in those "Disco", mixed ones ! 🌈 Maybe, also do the Ball float in "Half and Half", Black & Yellow so best of both worlds ?
Can this be used with a lead clip ?
Of course 👌🏻
Well done Westy glad you and you dad caught and I’m definitely interested in those feeders too
That bait looks great westy
Hi westy mate, do you mind helping me out, wondering where u got ur brolly chair attachment, as I can't find any for my caparlan chair, only seeing offbox attachments.
Most box options will fit the caperlan chair. It’s not recommended though mate it’s just not stable enough. Just get a brolly spike 👌🏻👍🏻
What rods do you use ?
Korum opportunist xtnd
@WestysAngling thank you and do you not use your guru n gauge pro feeder rod ?
@MnGAdam in winter I tend to fish on alarms because you are waiting longer between bites. When the fishing picks up I swap back to the tip rod 👍🏻
I highly recommend some boot spikes lol 😂 another great video 😁
I put mine on fishing the Trent quite a lot because the banks are steep and sloppy
Beautiful chub that was
For content prob the worst ive watched
But you still watched 😉
The best fishing days are when your with your dad ❤
That's one fish I haven't caught yet a nice chub
Westy can you do one on supermarket oats for feeder
Hey Westy, love that you’re still getting out there! Me and my daughter love it and thanks to you gave me more enthusiasm! Even just by replying to me on instagram shows me that your not just a TH-camr you’re a community ❤
Always try my best to respond mate ! Exactly without my subscribers I’m nothing. Tight lines buddy 👍🏻
@@WestysAngling we’re all better as a community TH-camr or not we stick together we win together much love mate 👍💪
Ive fished all my life and I am mid 50s and never felt the need to use bite alarms, ive even carp fished. We never had bite alarms back when I was a nipper and so being old school, have just chosen to just watch the rod. I understand you film also but, it is a pet hate wen its nice and quiet and the silence is broken by beeps and buzzers.
Great as always 👌
Great video as always. I’m out next week using my new Westys cold water pellets and wafters. Fingers crossed 🤞
Iv been using this rig since matt uploading it to his channel. Its deadly 👌. Great vid btw
I always worry the worm will get itself tangled up with the feeder frame itself so tend to leave the hook out of the feeder when I use a worm as hookbait
I'm 24 now still going fishing with my dad and wouldn't want it any other way 👍🏻🎣
Had to tell my misses I needed a poo so I could come finishing this video on the toilet 😂 💩 we need more river content Westy really enjoyed this one! Do you think you'll ever do some dead baiting for Pike videos or isn't that your thing? Not been watching the channel long but enjoying it so far playing catch-up. Keep the videos coming! 😁
There are some on the channel ! I will be doing some soon but I do find feeder fishing more enjoyable 👌🏻🎣
@@WestysAngling I will have to give them a watch mate definitely and nice one pal I can't fault you I do enjoy feeder fishing too. Can't beat a fight with a barbel 👍🏻👍🏻
Another brilliant watch westy those purple wafters are looking good i feel like i can smell them through my TV 😂
M8 click the legs in place first than fan it out 😂. Basically like all these style of bivvies 😊. Glad you’re liking it though! I was about to get one as well untill i was able to get a barely used Frontier XD for the same money. Have other Avid stuff; great brand imo.
Thinking of getting one, but I’ve the avid HQ2.. which is a fantastic Bivvy.. is this really an upgrade? 🤔
great video as always will be buying from you again some baits just started fishing again after 30 years and yours video have help me out a lot
Had a cracking carp last weekend new PB already in 2025
Did you get pod extensions for the NGT I had to get some to get the down ward stance Also the purple wafters look ace Keep up the good work 👍
You just saved that Sturgeon’s life
Potentially mate !
Interesting for me as have tried 6mm purple waters in Autumn and didn't have much luck. Will give it another go. Always some good info cheers Westy 👍
Your float feeder looks very interesting. I agree on the black color, if it was red, pike would likely strike at it, at least they do sometimes in my area. Greetings from Croatia!
I have decided this coming year to try the method feeder never used it as not been back into fishing for very long but find your videos very informative and helpful and . I think feeder fishing is the way forward for me this year . Thank you for all the great tips
Some wild colours and scents in the wafters. They will work well Im sure
Smashing video mate keep up the good work fella 🎉
Papa West doing what he always does getting on with it 😂😂 Foggy fishing you just can’t beat it I have to say
Haha he doesn’t get involved 😂 just turns up 💪🏻🎣
@@WestysAnglingwe all love Papa West
Great informative video, just want to take a minute to say a big 👍 to you for the respect you show other anglers. My youge son watches and copy’s nearly everything you do, so I’m sure he’ll pick up on how he should respect and act while fishing. We’ve all been there and had a day where others are just to loud and boisterous for the fishing banks.the purple waters look an interesting bait we must try.also had great success with the Korum feeder float (best with a really sloppy ground bait mix)so will definitely be trying them .
As always a pleasure to watch. I'll be out on the bank Saturday at a new location using your pellets and wafters, wish me luck. You know I'm gunna have to add some of them purple wafters to my basket now
A up westy with your floating feeders instead of fiddling about with the water why not no8 or 6 shot if the hole is big enough just add as many as you need for the speed you want it to sink also a bit of tape over the alarm speakers.
You would need a lot of shot to sink them but give it a go 👍🏻💪🏻🎣
