Spot on. It IS a percentage game. In improving domestic animals of any breed, variation is basically the enemy because our breeding goals typically represent a very narrow field. We want a certain type, certain characteristics, certain performance, etc. when the naturally tendency in nature is variation. The guys who consistently win OLRs have learned to test their pairs and to select offspring from pairs that consistently turn out the highest percentage of performers. You have to test out your pairs to find out which ones are doing the job as often as possible.
They will develop as they mature, but my experience is that one can typically tell how a bird is going to handle as an adult by how it handles when it’s young.

When do you normally stop breeding abd separate your pairs? Also, at what age for YB, do you think theyre ready to participate in races?
I like to separate birds early summer; at the latest mid summer. To be competitive YBs have to make it through their body molt.
From your experience Will Vents develop as they get older? Just like human’s can’t judge a baby how theyll be when they grow up

I’d be more than happy to take that Meulmans from off Your hands 🥺 🙏
