DMC Rebellion - Airbrushing, ASMR Edition
Doing an ASMR, because it seemed like a good idea. It's fun to watch people do projects. No expectations, just enjoy!
Do you want to see the finished project? Go to my Instagram below to see a nice closeup.
pCTqEw0mBXDo/?
Things I used:
Iwata Dual-Action Airbrush
Isopropyl Alcohol - just a drop or two to speed up drying
Tamiya Acrylic Thinner - to thin acrylics for airbrush use
Golden Acrylics Iridescent Pearl
Golden Acrylics Iridescent Silver
Alumilite White Epoxy Die - Thick stuff, very little is needed
Plastic mixing pan (any jar lid would do)
Syphon Feed Airbrush Jar with 60 degree connector
Airbrush compressor from a cheap airbrush kit
Quarter Inch short bristle Level 2 brush.

CR10 V2 V3 X Axis - Pt 4: Extra details & Z Axis

We're way past shimming and aligning the X Gantry, so what now? How about other random, simple things that can help refine your printer even more! And why did I suddenly think I could do the Z rollers without any resistance? It sorta worked. Should you print your Titan Cover-plate on the V2/V3? As long as it's holding together, yes. CR10 V2 V3 X Axis - Pt 3: Reassembly & Shimming
มุมมอง 5062 ปีที่แล้ว
How many times did I remove the stepper motor when the arm on the other side is designed to release tension on the belt? Seems I forgot that simple part. Regardless, the third part where I put the X Gantry back together and we shim the belt. The idea is to keep the belt from drifting into the pulley. If it does not, when it travels, you don't need to shim the mechanics. If you find that you can...

In this video, this is about positioning the X Stepper so you can easily access the cog on the end for belt shimming. Moai Bed Level, Shimming, & Print - Moai introduction

Well, I was asked to show people how to use a Dial Indicator to level the Moai build plate. The thing is, you don't need to print levelling pegs and go through all these steps to make certain it's setup properly. Because the Moai has a floating vat it's necessary to level the vat first. It's easier than it sounds using the original build plate which doesn't need to be leveled. If you switch to ...

    • @cainesarmoury8962

      Sure! It works just fine, but dulls the gold just as any other clear coat does. However, I have not tried the 2k clear coat catalyst to see if it does it as well. It is more of an epoxy style clear coat that bonds differently. I will need to try it some day, I actually have a can ready to go!

    • @cainesarmoury8962
      @cainesarmoury8962 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably washers. The larger the printer the less the way the're made works. I'm dealing with a similar printer, a CR10s5 and it's huge! The entire thing is saggy and under a lot of stress. I'm trying to reinforce it but aluminum is turning into an enemy. I think a handful of steel spacers and larger bearing/roller combinations are what would really help. If not that, just doubling the number of rollers and make certain they all have eccentric nuts.

    These are shielded bearings, you will be lucky if any of that grease actually makes it inside the bearing. You could swap to and equivalent sealed bearing size and even upgrade to high quality bearing from NSK or SKF. The bearings should far outlive the rollers themselves.

    • @cainesarmoury8962
      @cainesarmoury8962 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are shielded but they aren't sealed. So grease gets in there just fine. But, a pair of sealed bearings will last much longer.

    • @brucehirsch5437
      @brucehirsch5437 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes. These bearings ARE sealed. So greasing them made no difference.

    • @flex-ranger2
      @flex-ranger2 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% correct, will be very lucky if anything gets in without a proper grease pusher. Probably doing more damage then good with all that grease. Dust is the enemy in this configuration, Grease and Dust are not friends. If your'e going to grease the bearings on the outside dust cover are a must. Premature wear and tear is the only result of this particular method. Great to watch and appreciate the video though. Always cool to see other makers on here 👍🏼

    I’ll start out by saying I’m new to acrylic painting. Also, I’m painting bisque ware. What I’m currently working on has a great deal of fine detail requiring me to paint much slower and precisely. Because of that, the method you’ve shown wouldn’t work. Due to painting slower and the fact that acrylics dry fast, my current project has many streaks and it’s anything BUT smooth. Do you know a way to repair the uneven areas? I have another similar project and I was hoping to get some suggestions, so I can avoid making the same mistake. I’ve tried adding drops of water to the acrylic, but it affects the color, making it lighter. I could really use your help. Thank you.

    • @cainesarmoury8962
      @cainesarmoury8962 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct, this technique does not work with Pisque Ware or Ceramics. Painting ceramics is very different. It depends if you're doing an underglaze or just painting on the surface. You dilute it a lot to retain a smooth texture, similar to pinstriping. However, you do not dilute it with water. You need Acrylic Thinner. You will also apply multiple coats to finish the piece. I found this reference and I hope you find it useful. justpaint.org/painting-on-ceramics-with-acrylics/

    • @dakotap3008
      @dakotap3008 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cainesarmoury8962 Thank you for the link. I purchased a bottle of flow improver, and it helped tremendously on one project. The other project that had noticeable streaks, I used a light sandpaper to smooth out the ridges. When I’m done with that, I’ll repaint those areas with 50/50 acrylic and flow improver. I have a couple of other questions you might be able to answer. First, many of my brushes, even those used very little have a tendency to look frayed with some of the hairs of the brushes sticking outward appearing like old brushes. I don’t know what causes this or even how to repair them. I clean the brushes first with water, then with brush cleaner. Would you provide some suggestions, because I’m spending a fortune on replacing brushes. I’ve even resorted to scissoring off the frayed edges. Also, some of my pieces cracked during the bisque fire and not wanting to risk more damage with a second firing, I’ve chosen to paint them with acrylic. Do you happen to know of a way to fill those cracks, so you can’t see them after they’re painted? Any suggestions would make my life so much easier. Thank you.

    • @cainesarmoury8962
      @cainesarmoury8962 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. And don't. In fact, regular PTFE tubes have a problem too; too many fake tubes that have a 180C max temp. Capricorn would work in theory, but it's so tight that the heat causes it to expand closing the already tight tolerances to the point it causes binding. You're better off with the non-capricorn high-temp variants.

    Thanks for this. Would of been great if we could have seen the actual test sheets properly 😣 I couldn’t tell which paint had the most high gloss chrome look to it. I did look up the testors one and the site I found it on said it should only be clear coated with a 1814, 2736 & 2936 clear coat as these ones won’t dull the metallic finish and strip the leafing. Do you know if you have to have the clear coat? Does it add that chrome look to it with these test paints? I’m wanting to make some photo frames go from the gold or silver chrome look to a copper or rose gold, as well as possibly make some pvc pipe look like copper.

    A few helpful notes..a rule of thumb is you need a minimum of 3 teeth in contact with the edge of the metal at all times in order to cut effectively. The thinner the metal, the higher the tpi you'll need. Jeweler's blades 3-0, that's a good blade to start with. Take it slow, keep it cool. It also can help to sandwich thin metal between two pieces of thin plywood or other material, and put your template on the top piece of wood. That will decrease some of the grabbing action, make is safer and make cutting metal on a scroll saw far easier. But most of all, to me the choice of blade is to me the most important factor, that and not pushing it! Blades break extremely easy, as they are hard and thin like wire. Watch the channel Clickspring to see some fantastic brass cutting on a Hegner scroll saw. He just uses it to rough out shapes, and bring it to finish with files and etc., which I think is probably the best (though a bit more labor intensive) way to do metal scroll sawing on thick stuff.

    Wish I had seen this video before I bought my v3. That piece of PTFE tubing in the heat break melts above 240C (which is everything I print). They changed out a problematic plastic idler arm in the extruder for metal and advertise it as having an "all metal extruding kit". Then dummies like me come along and assume were getting an all metal hotend....because whats an all metal "extruder kit"? I THOUGHT I had done my homework and was buying a printer I wouldnt have to change out a bunch of stuff to print Tglase and CPE-HT. I cant even print PETG with this thing. Its useless to me as it is. So any advice? I need all metal hotend and direct drive.

      many people switch to the Bondtech, and I went with the Hemera. There are other options, and I'm sure they're great but it seems Bondtech is the number one choice. I chose the Hemera specifically because of it's low profile, low weight, all metal hot end. There is a PTFE tube but it's only to feed filament into the gear.

    I’m wondering why my V2’s Z Axis are reverse of yours? My X axis belt tightened is on the right and the circuit board/cover/bowden mount are on the left side. I upgraded to the Titan Direct Drive (V3) and replaced it all with a Hemera. I got tired of the non-stop clogs.

      I was using the front camera and it reversed the image. Learned how to edit that properly after I did this video.

    It seems like you could write a short gcode to set the Z height instead of having to dial it into the firmware. I'm just learning about how to do it, so i don't want to put up any examples that may be incorrect.

      Get out of my head! Lol. That's brilliant and I'm mad that I didn't think of it first.

    Ok, i need some help pls. I have to gold paint a metalic lamp and i don't know what to use. Paint it with brush or to use metallic gold spray? Spray is more convenient but the paint is durable enough and gold shiny like regular paint?

      Most often, no. They need a lot of post processing and proper clear coats to be durable. This may be a rub-n-buff application to keep it durable. Airbrushing would he ideal, with a lacquer coat.
