Planting Grass Plugs with an auger | Rio Bermuda from NCgrassplugs.com
Certified Rio Bermuda grass plugs planted using the drill auger was so easy. We mixed up a small batch of Soil Moist as a root dip and off camera we added some granular fertilizer and RGS (root growth stimulant).
How to plant plugs:
1. Either, remove grass to bare dirt or mow existing grass down as low as possible.
2. Using the drill auger or appropriate planting tool, make the holes needed for the plugs. We typically recommend planting in an offset grid at 12” spacing.
3. Plant the plugs. Soil Moist root dip is optional. Step on each one after planting. Fertilize and water deeply.
4. Mow often and keep plugs moist.
These will spread rapidly to create the lawn that you’ve been wanting.

    If you are skeptical about mixing chemicals try Ornamec 170 which has some of the same ingredients as Fulisade. Mixing it is simple and it works on my zoysia lawn in NW Fla to eliminate Bermuda grass. Just remember to use a surfactant so it clings to the unwanted grass and not run off into the soil. Hey Cuz! I am going to hit my lawn with it again too. I have found about three Bermuda plants in my lawn and they’re all small. I also have some crabgrass and a little nutsedge.

    Hey boss! Never got an update to your Recognition + Fusilade2 video! I just laid about 5k sqft of Zeon and have some sedge, bermuda, and crabgrass. Just was able to get my hands on some recognition and fusilade2 and want to pump spray my yard with it

      I don’t know how I missed the notification for your post, but I did. The update is in a recent video but I’ll recap. I only had a handful of Bermuda plants pop up this year. I applied this combo about a month ago and I can’t find any more Bermuda right now. It smoked the sedge but only dinged the crabgrass. The crabgrass grew right out of it! The crabgrass is at a growth stage now that you probably won’t have good herbicide results. Get you a pre-emergent down in the next month or so.

    I realize this video is 3 years old, but I just discovered it. I have a question in reference to the rate of the Abamectin. I know you said 1.5 oz per 1000. In another article from the university of Florida, it recommends the same product to be applied at .28 oz per 1000. I am treating 30,000 ft. of common Bermuda. Their rate varies greatly with what you applied. Just trying to figure out what would be better. At your rate, I would use 45 oz for my square footage, and their rate I would only apply 8.4 oz. I don’t mind going the higher rate if necessary. What are your thoughts?

    • @NCGrassPlugs

      I don’t remember if that was label rate or if it was a recommendation from a lawn care professional.

      @@NCGrassPlugs thanks so much for the reply! I’m going with your rate. Tired of dealing with these mites. I actually do weed control and fertilization for a living. But I had never dealt with these things until this. I have applied the Abamectin twice, but at the lower rate.

      You have to make an educated guess. Do you know if it was seeded or sodded? Do you know about how old the lawn is? What do the closest sod farms sell? Is it a medium or fine bladed zoysia?

      @@NCGrassPlugs My house was built in the late 70's. Virginia Beach area. Most lawns in my neighborhood have zoysia (some have fescue). I assume it's sod and has a medium thickness blade. I bought plugs from central plugs and they seemed to match my existing zoysia but this last time I ordered they sent zenith zoysia and it seems much more lime/lighter than my existing zoysia.

    • @NCGrassPlugs
      @NCGrassPlugs 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe the idea behind that is to get some Bermuda vegetation exposed so that it can be hit with the herbicide. To date in my front lawn, I have pulled out two small Bermuda sprigs this year. I am sure I didn’t get it all but it looks like 99.99% of it was killed off. That’s an amazing rate of control. I plan on shooting a video today and maybe another in two weeks. They may end up being just one video but it’ll be a 1 year update on the plug installation.

    I thought the Celsius cap can be used to measure the amount of product. If so, a lot easier than using a digital scale. Anyway, great video, and thanks for taking the time to post this informative video.

    Dude, seriously? Why speed up the application footage? I'm sure a lot of people would like to see the walking speed in real time to get an idea on how fast or slow to walk. I know it changes on application rate but not by much. Watching you zip back and forth is worthless.

    • @NCGrassPlugs
      @NCGrassPlugs 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the feedback. I look at it a little differently than you, I think that no one wants to watch me walk and spray but I get what you’re saying. The only problem is that every sprayer and pump sprays at different rates. This is why everyone should “calibrate” their sprayer and practice a pace that gets you to your desired output per 1000. Next time I apply, I will show the walking pace.
