That is honestly a great question. I did not create the format, it is very old and the creator is unknown. If I had to guess, it must be refering to the fact that you are blind to what decks your opponents might be playing and one of the main skills tested is your ability to predict what other people might be playing. A lot of the details about the origin of the format are as much of a mystery to me as anyone else. In the context of the history of this tournament, it isn't that out of the ordinary, especially at higher Elos. It is definitely on the lower end of the spectrum, but it isn't the first time we have seen that.

Yes, you are absolutely correct and that is actually the system we currently use. Although I did not call it out explicitly, at 1:27 you will see "supporting 64,516 games". 64,516 is the total number of games that were actually played, but 51,827 of them were unique and the remaining 12,689 were duplicates that the database was able to automatically fill in. Using the same estimate method in the video, having the database set up in this way might have saved us close to 211 hours this year!

You are correct. The challenge with calculating this match arose the the very specific circumstances around it, and swapping City of Traitors for Ancient Tomb changes the match entirely. You are also correct that the reason that Hangarback Walker is still banned right now is because it is also just generically very strong in the format. It is a card that we might ban someday, but we banned Steel Overseer not that long ago for similar power level concerns.

Currently there are no plans to include alchemy cards for a few reasons. - Alchemy cards include cards that are modifed versions of paper cards with the same name, which could create confusion - Alchemy cards can be subject to changes/rebalances, which poses an extra challenge for how the database is currently structured - Many Alchemy cards include effects that would make processing match outcomes challenging If you are interested in seeing how Alchemy cards might perform in the format, I think running a side event in the discord would be the best way to try them out

The depletions would probably all get banned together if we were to vote on them based on some discussion in the discord. I think no card is a format pillar in 3CB because changing the format frequently with bans is part of what keeps the format interesting. However, the fact that white is so dominant over the other colors suggests it’s more of an issue with the current selection over the land. Personally, I think depletions being a reason to play a tapland is a healthy enough that I’d not really want to see them banned.

Also Cleansing Wildfire can destroy basic lands, so pod not running those didn't matter much.
