APRILIA RSV ohlins fork,damping problems.@jbsworkshop
We had this RSV in for a fork service as he had taken it somewhere else & the suspension felt worse than it did standard.
I was shocked to find the damping adjuster fitted incorrectly,i changed the oil & set the air gap ready to assemble & reset damper settings back to factory settings

I would expect ohlins to pay for the work as it seems it was a manufacturing assembly error. Sounds also like a safety issue.
@@viasevenvai I suspect the forks have been apart before & put back together incorrectly, so probably not ohlins at fault
ah thank goodness, thanks for the info and excellent demonstration on how the adjustment screw moderates the oil flow…valving? maybe more of a gate with that needle.
Have you got the full video on this Speed Twin Yet John. Looking forward to seeing it.

Hello John. I asked Delboy the following in response to his Dyno video at your place. "Can the ECU be programmed directly instead of via a Power Commander thereby saving the expense of buying a Power Commander". He suggested that I refer that question to you.
@@jamesweber4938 hi James Yes the ecu can be programmed direct on the rocket 3 & I also do direct ecu mapping on many other models. I derestricted the secondary butterfly’s on Del boys rocket 3 via the ecu direct but used the pcV to custom map the fuel map as it’s easier & wanted to show the tuning link software working. Hope that answers your question? If you need any more info let me know 👍
@@jbsworkshop There are a couple of companies in North America that offer an ECU mail in service for remapping of the ECU. Have you considered that option for your customers in the U.K ? I realize an in person dyno tune is more accurate and covers most engine mods the bike may have had but a flash that covers most applications is apparently popular.
@@jamesweber4938 I prefer doing custom tunes built on the dyno due to the variation of exhaust & air filter combinations etc. When I have built up a big data base of different mods I might offer a mail in service but for now I will stick with custom maps
Hi lovely - can we add this awesome video to our new Bikefest website that I'm currently buildng?
@@fionabardwell9779 yes no problem, happy for you to add it 👍
Hi, where can you buy that drill attachment for priming the oil system?
@@sabywalleh2154 it’s something I made up to do the job,I think certain manufactures make specific ones for there models but I generally adapt something I already have to fit
13.5 AFR ?
@@ngt84 yes the afr was around 13.5,I was just running the engine in & checking it was ok,it wasn’t a full mapping session as the customer couldn’t stretch to that so I just checked it was running ok & not to far out from where it needs to be. If I was mapping it I would of made changes as it was a touch leaner in places but running better than a standard map
@@jbsworkshop Never tuned motorcycles. Usually my N/A cars like 12.8-12.9. Some Highly N/A with high compression might like even richer AFR. We also have talks/arguments in the car since they insist on 13.1 or 13.2 afr, and i display them the difference on the spot (since they are a vehicle with aftermarket ecu or something similar). They end up seeing the performance benefit as well @ 12.8afr How much do you loose with AFRs into the high 12s with these motorcycles ?
@ I do a few runs with different AFR’s to find optimal & it’s normally around 13.0 to 13.2 top end, some bikes like it a bit richer but richer than 12.8 they tend to start loosing power
Coming over frome Del's channel. Tremendous work on his Rocket 3. Are you optinizing Honda CRF 300s as well? Might come over for a TET trip to the UK/Wales again. Chhers, Günter/Nürnberg
@@enduromotorradtouren thanks, yea the rocket had some very surprising & good results. Woolich racing don’t do the crf300 but I can look into other options like power commanders or rapid bike Evo’s ?
@@jbsworkshop Yeah! Günter/Nürnberg
Had the tang break in my 2015 R1. Replaced the shift shaft. It was fine for two sessions at brands then failed again. Had to replace a selector fork has it had some wear. The extra movement needed to push the gear in meant that tang on the shift shaft was coming into contact with the pins on the selector drum. A very expensive bill.😂.
@@sprinterdriver4757 apparently this engine was refreshed with a rebuilt gearbox so they might of just been unlucky & forgot to replace the shift shaft, thinking the worn selector was the only issue & fixed that without noticing the broken tag,who knows
@jbsworkshop 🤞
Great video. 👏
Hi was talking to you on Delboys channel "Triumph Rocket " having same issues on mine , low throttle fueling , have Tune ecu but never messed with maps yet . Mines 2016 Thruxton 1200 so pretty much same setup as Speed Twin , mine feels lean once up to temp with excessive popping on over run . Not bothered much about top end fueling as feels ok just idle + low end also occasionally stalls have blanked canister off , disabled 02 sensors with resistors still the same . Bikes had hard life before I got it done 54k just like some advice on re mapping as never done this before , you said to drop u email ? not sure how I find your address on hear
@@nounoufriend1442 hi there,it’s hard to tell without putting it on the dyno to check AFR but I can probably give you some guidance. Is it runnning standard exhaust with cat or an X pipe decat?
@@jbsworkshop Its stock at moment will be running X pipe with Vance Hines (have them already) Also have some fairly straight through short cone mega's to try , came as bundle with 1200 r stock headers . Bikes been driving me insane , cleaned throttle bodies , cleaned injectors , swapped injectors , swapped coils , new plugs plus HT caps ,had re map done by Triumph . Bike was very neglected when purchased but very cheap she runs perfect during warm up then once up to temp its erratic at low throttle with lots of popping. Forgot to say it has Boost plug fitted (got it cheap S/H ) it seemed to work for short while !! as did the dealer recall re map for short while , done valve clearances as well
@ I would remove boost plug for starters & add 10% fuel in all low tps settings from the lowest up to about 50% throttle from 0 rpm to about 5/6k rpm’s & test ride it & see what it’s like. Also disable 02 sensors in tune ecu & unplug the 02 resistors
@@jbsworkshop Cheers thanks for info
@@nounoufriend1442 no problem, without getting it on a dyno you can’t get it bang on but that should get it running better.
Poor bike has had a hard life 😕
@@cpuuk it didn’t have the best of starts unfortunately
Del said I should pop over ;-) Do you only do Power Commander related tunes? KTM1290S tunes?
@@cpuuk I use mainly woolich racing software for most modern sports bikes, they don’t list ktm at the moment but I believe they are looking into it at the moment. I have mapped a few superduke’s with pcv’s & done individual cylinder maps with good results but I think they stopped making them after 2019/2020
@@jbsworkshop Oh well, never mind. Thanks.
Came over as per Del's request and watched this rebuild series. WIth the amount of damage on the old engine, that must have sounded like a bag of spanners well before it finally let go. Surely the owner had some warning that something was seriously wrong, yet he kept on riding until it catastrophically disassembled itself. Wonder what he was thinking?
@@JVerschueren thanks for the comment 👍I thought the same as you, surely it must of sounded like a bag of spanner’s before it chucked a rod,as wear like that doesn’t happen in 10miles but the customer had no clue it was about to self destruct. It looks like it was down to poor workmanship not bleeding the oil system on a fresh engine but it’s hard to prove

@@raceshift5680 cheers buddy I enjoy making the video’s,fingers crossed it’s bigger & better next year 👍
Would like to see how my 2020 T00 shapes up on a dyno.....not looking for more power.....just a fuel air that kinder to the motor....is that practical. Will the Triumph ECU....not try and reverse your fueling adjustment's.....I seem to remember reading that it could well do. My knolarge dont stretch that far.
@@nickaxe771 I believe on 2020 you can’t have as much control over the closed loop area of the map as 02 sensor has to stay connected. So you can only have full control of the open loop fuel map(tps fuel map) & limited control over closed loop
Thank you so much for getting back to me. Bit over my head.....so would I be wasting my time if I asked for a fuel increase of say 5% across the RPM range at my local dyno tuning shop.
@@nickaxe771 from the dyno work I’ve done on the pre 2020 bikes I would say around 8% increase in all tps settings up to 80% throttle across the entire rpm range & richen the closed loop map to 13.8 to 13.5. Obviously it’s best to check it on dyno but I think that will get you close & a better running bike
@@jbsworkshop Interesting....I have TuneEcu and know my way around it to alter the service wrench and clear and read fault codes. Wish I was nearer to Doncaster and I would let you do it for me.....long way from Liverpool. Is it something I could do myself? or could I easy bugger things up. I do have the T100 map installed.....
@@nickaxe771 I would say it’s best to have a bit of experience with the mapping side before attempting it. Having a dyno to hand is also a massive help so you can verify changes
So what was the bhp increase in the end?
@@TheHowardski it finished with 90bhp & the before run was 88bhp so not big gains top end due to customer wanting to keep the baffles in. Without baffles it would be around 94bhp at a guess. But it runs much smoother now & had bigger bhp improvements low down where you use it on the road
Was the goal just correcting a/f ratios only? Was the customer not interested in performance gains even with throttle limitations removed? Thanks
@@krie2375 I removed throttle limitations & any ignition restrictions, removed 02 sensors & charcoal canister before I did my base runs to then finally build a fuel map with consistent AFR ratio’s across all tps settings & rpm ranges. Doing this allows it to have a smoother throttle transition & as a by product normally results in performance gains especially in the areas it’s running very lean. I could of got more power & performance removing the baffles but the customer rides with baffles in all the time so that’s how I mapped it,I normally talk with the customer before tuning & try my best to give them what they want & maximum power isn’t always there request. Hope this info helps👍thanks for the comment
Nice video matey, fair increase in bhp and torque percentage wise, how did it ride???
Not massive gains but it rode much smoother with a better air fuel ratio. So glad I got a better mic set-up,sounds much more consistent

@@larropowell3658 no I am still riding trials but with moving workshop & having a little lad I haven’t had much time to ride unfortunately
Freaked me out the first time I did belts on a Ducati, just doesn't feel right not fighting valve springs, keep up the good work matey
I don’t work on many Ducati’s anymore as they can be a pain but these are nice & easy to do the belts on👍new mic system works better with my phone now for sure
What air filter did you use and did you have a way to tuner with specific tune for the filter into the bike’s tune? also found changing all spark plugs, couplings, and running Techron fuel additive to clean the injectors and fuel pump. For the love of all that is good and friends, don’t run cheap ass 89 oct fuel in this bike.
The customer opted to keep the standard filter but I have done a couple of these with a dna air filter & built a custom map to suit the filter & full decat system it had on. I use the dyno to get the afr data then use tune ecu to build a custom map specific to the mods, load that map in & retest until im happy with a nice consistent afr
