If they were to fight next, imo it's going to be 70/30 for Islam.. but no concrete steps leading to that happening and Ilia is all talk as of now. Ilia is doing another one of Conor's strategy for self promotion and good for him bec it's working. News abt Islam these days gets attention.. Ilia gets to keep himself visible w/ these statements on social & interviews even if he don't have a fight scheduled. Until he books a fight @ 155 and Dana/UFC themselves give us a schedule when & where that fight will happen.. I can't take Ilia seriously. IMO, Ilia is Islam's hardest matchup even more so than Arman. This guy is extremely fast, has both the volume and power in striking so he has a very high chance of sleeping anyone if he connects flush. His boxing is the best I've seen in the UFC he's KO'd two of the best strikers ever so he'll be a challenge for Islam in the striking. He's also a wrestler who's been doing this since a very young age, has more submission finishes than he has KO ones so his submission game is also very good, he's physically strong, he's a very dense muscle build and is short also has a 92% takedown defense so he'll be a tough challenge for Islam to wrestle and take down. Also has the cardio, he has 88% finish rate , has a very strong mentality, all of that plus he's very young, hungry, driven, and confident especially after KOing 2 GOATS back to back.

Bro Merab has wrestled with illia, and Merab p4p is just as good at wrestling as anybody in the ufc. Merab has said illia is an amazing wrestler. So I don’t really know if Islam is a way better wrestler then him. Besides we all thought just a few days ago umar would certainly out wrestle Merab and look how that turned out. Look That whole camp is full of fantastic fighters but I think we over do it with the praise sometime. Don’t forget against volk Islam was in serious problems late in the 5th another minute and things could have been very different

I have an odd take on this but I don’t know how to explain it properly but I’ll do my best. I think guys with amazing grappling skills will do worse against Islam in the grappling department for example a Charles Oliviera, an Illia, Arman, Renato, or even a guy like gamrot. It’s because they will utilize their grappling differently than someone who doesn’t specialize in it. Guys like Dustin and volk were just focused on getting away and not exchanging in the grappling AT ALL. Like a pure anti-grappling don’t let him get a hold of me approach. Grapplers will entertain it because they’re confident in their ability more and those are the guys Islam usually submits. I’m not sure if I make sense but if illia doesn’t try to prove that his grappling is better and just gets tf out of there he’ll be able to put Islam to sleep. If he entertains it too long islam will put him to sleep with a darce or something.

None of Islams last 5 opponents has had the knockout power and striking skills Ilia Topuria has. Add his Wrestling and BJJ skills into the mix and you get the potentially most dangerous opponent Islam has ever faced. I hope Dana will make this fight happen this year. I think it’s the most highly anticipated fight to make right now. Islam says he wouldn’t gain anything but I think otherwise. He could gain a nap in the octagon.

Ilia is a premier fighter at best of the best FW. His power is optimised at FW, his grappling atrength is optimised for FW. I dont think that kind of unique power will translate fully in LW, dont get me wrong he will still be an elite LW fighter but will fall short against the champion of LW. Islam is the king of LW and is running through his division. What i think would be competituve and Ilia could win is against Arman. Oliviera, also, bit i dont think he beats oliviera tbh in a 5 rounder. Oliviera chin is underated, he can take big power shots and still win of his back...did it against porier, gaethje, chandler etc. Edit: forgot to say, ilia the shorter fighter will have trouble against Islams muay thai clinch...this was effective against volk. interestingly, it wasnt effective against Poirier whos a bit taller and stronger.

I think ilia tries to bulldoze Islam the way he did to max except Islam is much more defensively sound and ilia just swings for the fences and whiffs 90% of his shots or runs into takedowns trying to force a finish. I think Islam wins in a 5 round unanimous decision

I consider myself both an Ilia fan and an Islam fan, and I don't think either man runs through the other. I've previously argued Islam's case for the win in this match up, more as a counter to the blindly faithful 'Ilia sleeps him easy' fan takes that were everywhere after he knocked Holloway out. Ilia can more than likely knock out anyone he gets close enough to. Islam more than likely has advantages in every other aspect of the fight. Maybe large advantages. That may not even matter with Ilia's stopping power. I lean Islam, but this fight needs to happen.
