I Applied For The WORST Travel Credit Card - 3 Reasons To Get It
Hey guys, in this video I go over why I applied for the worst travel credit card in the game and provide the 3 main reasons I did so. This is very opinionated and also specific to my use case as the card could be more useful for others. Let me know if you have or would apply for this card!

I've thought if I ever go for the Brilliant card I would definitely get the Bevy first for the extra bonus points before I'm locked out due to the family language
Might as well before being locked out, I mean buying 155k points for $250 is a great deal in my eyes 😂
@@Cody.Little That's exactly what I'm doing. Want to get the Brilliant in an year but will decide to downgrade the Bevy/apply separately or just wait for an upgrade offer. Depends on what kind of offer I get and whether I want to tie up 2 Amex slots in the Marriott ecosystem.
Nope nowhere near the worst. Get the luxury cards and then you have the worst travel card.
Can’t disagree with you there! I forgot about those 😂
40 seconds in and I still don't know what the card is. Gotta cut the intro
Appreciate the feedback. I wasn’t trying to drag it on, just got caught up in making the intro. Guess it makes it suspenseful haha but for real thanks for watching!
Love a good strategy video! The Ritz card is definitely one people should start the process on. 85k cert It’s basically a CSR when it comes to protections, etc. travel credit Chase offers But, any of the cards that come with a 35k cert are MEH to me
Yeah not a big fan at all of the Marriott cards.
Can’t blame you. They just need to increase the multipliers and fix the Bevy/Bountiful
Yep. It’s bad!
It sure is! But I’ll take that SUB 😎
Does it have to be the same location?
@@Ant_Enriquez it’s meant to be for the same location but cropping the location out of the screenshot would probably do the trick as they would have no way of knowing. Only one way to find out!
are you sure its bottom up? i know its bottom up for green/gold/plat but i wasn't sure for this? i did get myself and p2 into PUJ or maybe its what you are saying, I have had the surpass only and she has the regular card. I couldn't get the SUB for any other hilton cards. bc she only has the most basic card, so i think its PUJ vs what you are saying.
@@drexplordinaire Hilton cards currently do not have family language (bottom up strategy you mentioned) it’s more of a precaution since Amex has added that to many of their cards. They usually do so spontaneously so more of a recommendation just be careful. Sounds like in your case you’re in PUJ, and there isn’t really anything you can do to get out besides wait 🫤
Audio bad
@@michaelroot1960 appreciate the feedback, definitely something I want to improve
👍🏼👍🏼
Appreciate you watching Xavier!
Thank you for the vid bro, I used your link to apply for the Marriott card, I’m under 5/24 and make 110k salary with a 760 credit score so hopefully they approve me 🙌
Not persuaded by the ranking. Which of them you actually used? There must a degree of objectivity on why S-rank, etc. Just sharing the benefits as written online but not the point-cent equivalent felt rushed, uncomprehensive, and not well-thought. This is fitting a lot in a short video.
@@pisay I have the main hotel keeper cards and have talked to many others about basically every card I mentioned. Of course, this is an opinionated video so not everyone will agree and that’s totally fine! I tried basing this list off of value received from the card for the average person. Typically with hotel cards, the goal isn’t to use them on everyday spend as their point values/multipliers aren’t worth it. The benefits and credits are the main value point. Just a fun tier list video, nothing too serious! Appreciate the feedback
Awesome stuff man. Love your work
@@chatanp Thank you I appreciate it!
Update 🔥 I must say I also don’t have a roadmap at this point either. But, the IHG business is definitely one that I’d like in my collection for the long haul
@@KeyKEYadventures I’ve slowly accumulated the keeper cards I want so making a roadmap is difficult lol but yes the IHG cards are sooo good highly recommend
I liked this video because it seems like you are already going to get coffee and stuff in your regular routine. Seems like a great use case to keep the card for the long haul.
@@KeyKEYadventures Thanks Key! 3 of the credits definitely fit into my current routine which makes it great for me
I have the boundless, delta platinum card. Do you think I should upgrade to RC to keep both the delta platinum and the RC?
@@donaldomere I think that’s a good combo! One airline and one hotel card. As long as you can partially use the airline credit and then get some good value from the free night, it’s definitely worth it. The delta platinum doesn’t have lounge access but the Ritz does which will be a nice addition
Going to downgrade my Gold when the annual fee hits. I like refresh in the sense it gives us back more than the AF but not trying to manage a lot of credits while chasing subs. Nice breakdown man! 👍🏼
@@Xavier_ID. makes sense since you have many other cards with credits! Also, totally forgot to mention that if you’re chasing subs, you don’t really need any AF cards unless they serve a specific purpose. That’s a great point!
I love Resy Restaurants. When I travel, I book reservations through Resy. The restaurants are always top notch.
i have a question once i apply the coupon do i have do find something cheaper than the total with the coupon applied?
@@Crollo-l1h nope the price on another app only needs to be cheaper than the original price on Grubhub, not the discounted price. So if Grubhub is originally $15 and then drops to $6 with the coupon, as long as another app has a price that’s less than $15 then it will qualify. That price on another app CAN use a discount though. So say both apps show $15 originally but then there’s a 20% discount code on the competing app, Grubhub will still offer the guarantee!
A concise and well done video. You did a really good job man Thank you
@@lyleanderson9615 thank you! I appreciate you watching
Awesome haul and redemption man! Love how you did it with just a few cards
@@FatStacksAcademy thank you I appreciate it!
Hey Man , really nice video ! I was wondering if I could help you with more Quality Editing in your videos and also make a highly engaging Thumbnail and also help you with the overall youtube strategy and growth ! Pls let me know what do you think ?
@@divyv20 appreciate you reaching out, but for now this is more of a hobby sharing my experiences and opinions. Thank you tho!
I really like that last strategy and in terms of going with the Chase Ink Cash before the referral cut-off and then finding a small sub with No FTFs for your trip. Who knows if some of those lower-tier Hotel Cards with downgrade paths have some elevated offers down around then! Great video Cody!
@@MattWelterOfficial thanks Matt! I think it’s probably the best option for me, and I’d be down for some elevated subs on hotel cards 👀
If you can squeeze out a card with a much smaller sub for your trip that has no FTF's, then I'd say go for it. Now that the ink cash has the 6 months, it gives much more flexibility. And as long as you can knock out that 1st half fine, then it shouldn't put much pressure on you having a couple months left still after your trip for what's remaining. Good stuff! 👍
Appreciate it Darius! That’s what I’m thinking, like a savor one or autograph as they have no FTF with an easy sub
@Cody.Little hopefully Cap1 doesn't give you any trouble haha 😅
Anazing id be willing to do the work!!
Do it! Such a clutch hack
Get a Visa with no FTF for your trip to Asia like the WF Autograph (low spend bonus too)
Not a bad idea! The savor one came to mind but the autograph is another solid option
I’d say go for Amex Plat trip dip in Dec. Maybe between IHG and Plat go Amex Biz Card (BBP maybe $3K/3). For your trip in Asia I wouldn’t fret about SUB and put the spend on VX or IHG Biz if they don’t take Visa. That 175K MR for Plat is no joke and you could do the triple dip downgrade to Green and look for an upgrade offer next year.
Go big! If you think you can knock out a good amount of the spend on the cash before your trip with enough time to wrap it up afterwards do it. Sometime you gotta risk it for biscuit 😂 I think you have a good idea. As long as you ensure you aren’t overspending to meet both, optimize the money coming out of your pocket and earn some points.
That’s what I’m sayin! To play it safe I could do a small SUB for the trip, like the savor one. Easy to hit and the multipliers would help too while abroad, then finish the cash. Idk I need to look at some more potential options
@@Cody.Little the savor one would be a good option! Since you have the Venture X you can either keep the SUB as cash or move it over to miles.
Go with the Cash.
Yeah probs the safest bet. Thanks for watching!
Full stop on Maldives and every TH-cam “credit card guy” pushing it. It’s not easy and expensive to get to and transfers and dining is incredibly expensive and the Maldives government may have “issues” you have problems with. If you want to get away, the Conrad Algarve in Portugal is the place you should consider. Looking at that one next and then using points for Lisbon and Porto. Easy to get to and cost, culture, and food are amazing in Portugal. The other thing anyone should think about on Hilton redemptions is value of points and not looking at face value, but also including taxes and fees. Sometimes it makes sense to redeem and other times it makes sense to earn.
does this work for pick up?
@@sle3pyco yes that’s how I use it is for pick up!
Great hack but is there a hack for Gym memberships? We will need to join a gym because we need to expect to gain a lot of weight.
@@andrebonilla4286 😂😂 that’s a good point come on Amex where’s the gym hack!
Taking the 50k offer for 2k spending is a good idea. I need help.
That offer is for the platinum? Honestly haven’t heard of that one, but lower spend can be better for some!
@@Cody.Little yes for the platinum. I might take the offer
Walmart + has Paramount + for free and $0.10 savings per gallon in gas
Definitely some other things to factor in! Unfortunately for me, I don’t use Paramount+ and I also don’t get gas at any of the Walmart partners since they’re usually more expensive anyways
What’s the equivalent of the 175 K points ?
If you use the points through the Amex travel portal, it’s 1 cent per point so $1,750. But you can often find pretty good deals on their travel partners websites using their specific points and all you have to do is transfer the points to that program which can net you $2,500+ in value
Definitely get where you're coming from. Its a great card if you can really pull the value from it to be worth the cost. And having a P2 makes it hit a little bit harder haha. Wouldn't be a bad idea at all to get it for a 1 yr run to capitalize on that bonus and the benefits, then see if you can get a ret offer later on.
The P2 thing is what really hurts lol but yeah definitely thinking about that year 1 value which allows me to try it out too
First time viewer, your rational makes a lot of sense and you don’t concern yourself with the hype. The Platinum card has made sense for me the past 3 years, I fly a lot due to work and I like visiting Europe annually. Airline/UberEats/Streaming= $600 cover existing spending and I fly mostly Delta/ partners with Sky Club and Centurion lounges at my home airport. But the card didn’t make sense for me a few years earlier.
Flying a lot for work can totally help justify the card, if I did then I probably would already have it. Seems like it makes more sense for you to have so that’s great to hear! Appreciate you watching!
You should look into the Amex Platinum. The card has a $300 equinox credit.
Do you know what is worth it? The Amex platinum.
The platinum can definitely be worth it for the right person!
The equinox credit is 1000% worth it. Health is wealth.
Equinox credit?
I agree health is wealth! However, equinox is only available in a few cities (not mine) and there are much cheaper alternatives which is why I’m not a fan of the credit
Looking forward to your 1 year review of the card. Hope you share your FHR experience!
Definitely will be trying out FHR once I get the card!
For 1 year, card is a no brainer if you need those top up membership rewards points
Yeah it really is, just an insane amount of points from the sub
Congrats on the new job!
Thank you!
Giving credit where it’s due, so much respect. Such. A. Good. Hack. 👏🏾🔥
Appreciate it Key!
Exactly! “Don’t need a high-end property if you are just sleeping and showering” I love your videos! I’ve missed the elevated offer, but I’ll definitely keep my eyes on this. If you’re bored you can grab at least 70k IHG points from a timeshare presentation 😅
Thank you Key! I’ve gotten a few offers from IHG for timeshares and honestly want to do one since they’re handing out so many points 😂
Definitely makes sense especially with getting the RC Card soon and the Sapphire Lounge at your home airport being live soon, to why you'd want to pass on the Platinum. It's a hefty fee and especially with lounge access restrictions making it so that you kinda have to pay that additional AU Fee, I can see why people would pass on it. There's a lot of crossover with high AF Cards as well, and like you said getting those same travel protections on the VX is another reason to where there'd be less value found on the Plat. Like you said though, with the 175k offer floating around, I think pretty much everyone should at least get it for Y1, try for a retention offer and then make a decision beyond that. Great video Cody!
Matt! Glad you can see my points as to why I haven’t gotten it! That 175k SUB is too tempting so I’ll have to try it out and then determine if I want to keep it or not. Appreciate you watching!
Agree the platty isn’t for everyone. For me, since the have the Venture X the need for it isn’t really needed. The platty will be for the sub and then cancel (for now) 😂
Yep I feel that! No denying the sub is amazing but beyond that, the Venture X is all I need
I just picked up the Platinum Business for 200k SUB, soft pull, and no 5/24 slot. Rumors are they change the card in December, so possible double dip opportunities too, before they raise the fee. Waited till June so I can use the statement credits for Jan-June too and still get both credits for next year. All around great deal for $15k spend and cancel in 2025.
Double dipping is a great strategy! Makes it even better with that SUB and that it didn’t have a hard pull or take a 5/24 slot. Lots of value for year 1!
This is an insane hack!
Indeed it is! Mind blowing that it’s even a thing
Had a stash of Hilton points. Used them in Hua Hin Thailand. Think it was 25k points a night. And with 5th free it was a nice redemption. Stayed in Hilton Hua Hin for over a month of nights spread . Free breakfast with Gold and a nice one at that. Great gym and pool. You get so much value from these points in SE Asia. Good video . I don’t have the Aspire yet. But soon enough I’ll get it and have the trifecta.
Wow that sounds like an amazing redemption! SE Asia is the best place for hotel redemptions, so many nice properties for cheap. A month tho with breakfast included? Can’t beat that. Thanks for watching!
