What am utterly shit video
The rocker plate.... Rocks! 🤙🏼👍🏼😎
can you explain how to use my list in-game. It's not intuitive at all....
It shows up on your Home Screen, so you can click and do the top items on your list. Not sure how much more intuitive it can get?
Thank you!!!! 🙏
If you want to quit a workout you just fast forward the steps ….
Right… but it wouldn’t let me do that here. Not via my keyboard or the Companion app. Odd.
Ahhh ! I figured you knew that 😂. Very odd. Nice work
Fab video. Found the same the grade was lower than my ramp and my ramp FTP is usually comparable to the 20 Min FTP. Im a heavier rider so i wonder if the switch backs sap that little bit extra, where a 20min or ramp is less so staccato type efforts. That said maybe thats psychosomatic as the grade looks pretty linear on the graph. Fab ramp result you did there 👍👍👍👍
This showed up in my feed. Are you considered good? my ftp is 10w lower doing the same test (I die 1min sooner) and i'm a couple of kg lighter than you. i'm trying to assess how sucky i am.
Depends on who you ask. :) Nah, I'm just a middle of the road cat B on Zwift. No where near the ability of the strong A riders!
I think there are bell curves for this to determine how you compare
First time I've ever seen all those cooldown prompts :D
Well done, kudo's for doing two FTP tests in a week (and another one next week)! Found a number of small issues in Zwift, hope that they can fix this. Not sure you noticed them as you were going all-out ;) 1. The 440W interval was marked as completed (star) while you stopped a the start of it (great effort though!) 2. At 24:07 in the feed the intervals switched to 390-410-430W etc, while during the test they were at 380-400-420W etc. Switched back after a little while... 3. The resulting FTP value screen was shown for far too short, it is easy to miss, especially if you go all-in. 4. 75W cool down for 10 minutes is far too low for people with a 300+W FTP, turning off ERG is probably a good solution. Or Zwift could use a FTP percentage for the cool-down.
"We put a test in your test, so you can test while you test."
is the ghost rider available ,after first attempt
If you’re taking about riding up The Grade… yes. (But you’d have to start at the bottom of The Grade, which I didn’t do on this ride.)
15:26 "starting" to feel a "little" burning in the legs?? Grrrr... LOL
solid work!! looking forward to this once i have it
Great shift. Impressive. I'm disappointed that you're disappointed!
Appears that zwift took 88.8% of your avg watts to give you your FTP. Makes sense for only 14 min test. I wonder if the math changes for those of that take longer?
Oh I see - Nathan finished faster and had a larger percentage deducted.
Am I the only one who is seeing those 87 million drops in awe???
I was using my bot test account, at Zwift's request. So... those aren't my personal drops. :)
Congrats Eric! :D Not gonna lie, its fun seeing others suffering for once One thing I don't understand: is the time/distance fixed for everyone ? 14mins seems short compared to the usual 20 mins...
Distance is fixed. So you ride The Grade KOM segment, and Zwift takes your average power combined with your segment time to determine your FTP.
@@ZwiftInsider Thank you!
Very nice! It seems if you're more of a steady climber, less of a punchy climber, with a flatter power curve, in the spirit of micro-optimization you're best off riding the heaviest bike available to maximize the test duration.
I was wondering about this! Similarly, I'm thinking that if you have steering enabled, take the widest possible turns in the hairpin section.
The final gradient is smart, it prevents coasting to a finish, essentially encourages continued effort.
It is but I found the flat bit in the middle harder as totally destroys rhythm for me.
@@robjones7556same, it absolutely ruined my effort, I had 380 watts till that point finished at 363😩
The new best heavy breathing experience there is! 😃
Id like to add a workout to my list and start it right from the companion app.
very useful, are we getting the zwift cog and click in South Africa
do you have the universal hub? Or does the virtual shifting work with a regular kickr core that has a cassette installed?
Works with either. I actually prefer virtual shifting with a standard cassette, because cassettes are quieter/smoother than the single cog design!
Thanks it was very helpful for me
Bye zwift
This is your health care professional speaking: don’t stop pedaling when your heart rate is 160 please. Spin it out, good for recovery and your heart.
I always do a cooldown spin around 15 minutes or more... but yeah, point taken. Should keep spinning the legs in the minutes right after I cross the line!
Is there a firmware update for the v5 Kickr to use virtual shifting with the Zwift Play controllers?
Not yet.
Well done! Was the plan just to smash a high pace from the gun? It seemed like HCT may have been outmatched a bit.
Yeah, we planned to do that… and once we saw that they were struggling, we kept pushing to hold the gap. Doesn’t always work, but it’s often worth the try.
THREE.....HUNDRED......WATTS.....!!??!! 🤯
Thank you for the kind message at the end of the race - Unfortunately, I have my in game messages turned off 🤦♂️ Great race and well done to your team 💪 it was no fun being the 1 in a 4v1 😂
Yeah, I didn’t envy your position one bit! Great work though.
Not on Android yet (just like every new feature for the Companion App). They seem to take days before appearing there, even though you've done the update. The update I did today said it was from 26th April, v3.57.0?? Why didn't this update appear before now? Guess the next version will have the new feature?
I just updated my Zwift Companion app and do not see "My List". I'm on Android FWIW...
I wanted to know that what power meter are you using? are you using the inbuilt powermeter of the kickr ? Or a seperate power meter for zwift? i also have wahoo smart trainer and i am using the inbuilt power meter of wahoo smart trainer so i wanted to know that is wahoo inbuilt power meter is accurate as outdoor power meter because i don't have an power meter yet i am only using the smart trianer power meter
I use the Wahoo trainer’s built in power sensing, since it is quite accurate!
@@ZwiftInsider right now i don't have power outdoor meter but one time i have used my friends Power meter and i did a 20min effort and that's was more than 300 plus watts. so i will come straight to the point that on my indoor smart trainer v6 I can't even hold 260 270 watts for long time. so i guess outdoor powermeter and inbuilt are way more different.
I'm failing to see how this is a surprise to anybody who has done group/TTT rides on Zwift for more than a few hours. The drafting is pants (that means rubbish by the way!) - always has been and probably always will. Comparisons to IRW riding are useless, Zwift is a game and has to be accepted for what it is (or isn't). Having said that I miss RGT and its "wasted watts" display😢
Yay! Good race 😊
This doesn't work with the Robo Pacers. I find i have to match and often exceeed the power when sitting in the pacer group or i'll get dropped.
I’ve tried riding at the minimum amount of watts to stay in the draft, and like your video, it was a lot, so I’m not surprised. Still, it’s very useful information. Thank you.
Insane. Would not have thought that
Any chance this looks different in 1st person view?
Interesting! Any TTT riders care to share how they counteract this? Like the lead rider stops pedaling for 1-2 secs after pull? Or 2nd rider shouldn’t ramp up to pull target before their pull starts?
I've suggested that if Zwift pushed you out to the side and into the wind when doing more watts than needed, it would make this obvious. I'm not sure this can be done though as some riders are using steering and will try to get back into the draft position.
Big Rides are the best
Curious though that the Sauce draft meter was showing a fairly high degree of variability (high 70-s to high 80's) behind the the larger version of rider 1, but fairly steady low 90's behind the smaller version. Suggests there is a difference, but not in the direction I would have assumed. Consistent though with your watt wasting video that I watched immediately before this one. Significant window in which nothing happens in the draft zone. But still...... the numbers on the draft meter???
Yeah, that's nuts, but after nearly 9 years on Zwift and a great deal of experience on other platforms, I have no expectation that Zwift ride physics mimic reality. Other platforms have done a much better job. It's a shame that Zwift failed to capitalise on such an obvious and useful tactical aspect of the game, even if they don't care about reality. While the outcome seems obvious it would be interesting, even if for its own sake, to hold the lead rider's power steady as you adjust their dimensions and see how much additional power the 2nd rider has to push to stay on the wheel.
So the height of the rider does impact their personal resistance from drag but not other riders? Cant help but wonder how the powerups works with that. Thanks for the research!
Yes, height affects you, but not the people who draft off of you. Height impacts your CdA calculation. Aero boost reduces your CdA. By a percentage, or by a set amount? I have no idea!
Good video Eric but sadly many Zwift riders have never raced IRL but expect Zwift to be exactly like IRL. It’s just a video game - not real at all, the racing results are not real either.
Yawn….
Glad to see my work has been peer reviewed 😊
Key data point. Riders are same height and weight. So not real life, does a taller rider behind or in front make a difference? does 10-20 kg's make a difference? I've seen 100kg riders putting out more watts, same wkg as a 75kg rider but be pulling away on flats.
That's a different test entirely. But you could do this test with a larger rider ahead and you'd get the same conclusions - there's still a watt wasting window. You might be interested in this: th-cam.com/video/BG0QtKVy8m8/w-d-xo.html (post coming on this topic next week).
Eric, One of the reasons I have never loved Zwift is that it has always felt a little "dead". Besides the delay in power onset, there has also been this seeming lack or correlation between power input changes, and resulting action in more scenarios than this. You have done well to demonstrate and quantify this, but my belief/ impression is that the "characteristic" goes far beyond this limited case you show. Have you tested to see if there is any other kind of power [bracketing] in larger group situations?
Harder to test in a group, since the group is dynamic by nature (I have no way to simulate a group of, say, 20 riders at a particular power level). But power changes seem to move me back and forth in a pack just fine nowadays, with Zwift's current pack dynamics. It's just getting into the wind that is extra tough!
@@ZwiftInsider Thanks for the reply Eric. I also just found your prior videos on this very subject and the solution since 4.1.1 so might give Zwift a try again.
I’m sure this also happens at least at the back of the group. Also being a light rider I can’t move around the group just fine like Eric does.
I thought this had been well known for many months.
