ZAMBIA Selfdrive safari in South Luangwa National Park - Zambia EP1
Join us as we continue our Africa overlanding journey and enter Zambia.
In October 2024, we spend two unforgettable weeks around Mfuwe, exploring South Luangwa National Park and its surroundings. Known as one of the best places in the world to spot leopards, the park didn’t disappoint-though patience was key! Along the way, we encounter wildlife not just in the park but even while wild camping outside its boundaries.
Different for this episode is our stay in a few luxury lodges, a welcome break from overlanding that also allowed us to learn more from their expert guides. Beyond wildlife, we immerse ourselves in rural Zambian life with the Muzanga Foundation-a memorable and fun experience.
But it’s not all smooth sailing. Load-shedding and fuel shortages make getting diesel an adventure in itself, and we face our first flat tyre of the trip.
Join us for wildlife encounters, village life, and life on the road as we explore the beauty and challenges of Zambia!

Beautiful adventure!
Your self-drive safari in South Luangwa National Park sounds like an incredible adventure! It is nice and captivating to follow your adventures. 💖
wow , verry nice , tks for the video .
Hello, firstly thank you for your nice video. I have seen in your video, that you had used the drone. We are going to Oman in Februrary and we would like to using the drone. How did you get a permit for using drone? Thank you very much for your answer in advance. :-)
Nice plans! For overland travellers it's often easier to carry a drone, compared to flying in. I'm sure you can find the procedure for attaining a permit online, but often it's a lenghty process. Good luck and glad you enjoyed the video.
@ Thanks. 😉 Have good time.
What was the canyon you were driving through at 2:46 ?
I don' know the name but it was on the way to get to Feel Nomad Yurt camp. They have a route description on their website which can help you find this canyon. Enjoy the ride!
Super nice video. Thanks 🙏 Oman is such a beautiful country
I am so glad you liked it. It is indeed a nice country!
One words…great explorer… we like to join in your team from 🇴🇲 Oman 👌👌👌🙏
What kind of drone are you using and off road maps too…
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed the videos. We use Organic maps for offline navigation, together with Google Maps.
@@seenbyceline thanks for sharing the valuable info, let me know the drone brand nature covering and there’s any restrictions in oman whether we can carry this in hand luggage..

@ sure, guys till now not mentioning the drone brand ? Why secret..🤷♂️ thank you for your quick reply…
Actually you can swim in Red Sea, you know saudi arabia has 1700 km along the Red Sea coast. I think you can't only on far north of Red Sea because the there rare marine life and sensitive creatures they wanna take care of them and they building luxury resorts in those pristine islands on Red Sea but you can swim between the area from middle to south of Red Sea. Yanbu and Rabigh are good places for swimming in Red Sea. You know saudi arabia has more than 2000 pristine islands on Red Sea and Arabian Gulf, you can just choose one island and swim and sleep in it.
Thanks for some background on this. We heard indeed there are sections you can swim but even there we often had the coast guard patrolling and telling us not to swim. No one really could explain why not, very strange.
@seenbyceline because the marine life there in this specifc area is sensitive, The other reason is because Neom project which is not only the line, Neom project consist of pristine islands on Red Sea and Aqaba Gulf, I think you were in Magna on Aqaba Gulf, it's within Neom project. There will be industrial port, international airport, University, schools and many things. First asset of Neom is Sindala Island, they open it 3 months ago. Now there is a project called Red Sea destination consist of 22 islands from 90 under development. They open 5 or 6 resorts till now, luxury resorts run by renewable energy so they preserved marine life and coral reefs because those the most important asset to tourism in Saudi arabia. You may heard term regenerative tourism so that what saudi arabia doing rn. You must see Shebara Resort, it's like a another planet, spectacular. And there is desert Rock Resort, they carved mountains and create those resorts inside the mountains, it's stunning place there. All those projects run by renewable energy so that's the unique advantage. No resort in the world run by renewable energy except here in Saudi arabia. They build huge airport espically for Red Sea destination. You know now they develop the ancient cite like Sinai mountain in Madian here north of Saudi Arabia. Wadi Disah now become part of a nature Reserve, you can enter free like before but now it will be more beautiful in term of care and preservation. There are hundered of Miga projects to preserve the nature. There will be huge nature parks inside cities. There is a huge park currently being worked on called King Salman park in the middle of Riyadh, its area is 3x larger than Hyde park and 2x larger than Central park. It will be opened in 2028. Jeddah tower has been resume building and will be completed in 2028 to become the tallest tower in the world at 1000 meters. There are miga projects under construction preparing for Riyadh Expo 2030 and football world cup 2034. Riyadh metro now is opened which is the largest driverless metro in the world. Check out the sites for Red Sea resorts. Www.visitredsea.com Www.redseaglobal.com Www.visitsaudi.com Your channel was the first professional channel through which i saw the beauty of my lovely country Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 so I thank you for your efforts to show people how saudi arabia look like and i recommend your channel to friends. Hi Celine! Beautiful hike indeed and we are planning to do this hike next year. Can you let us know how to find a guide? Is it better to book ahead or can we go to Karakol and ask around? Thanks in advance.
Nice plans! We booked everything in advance through Destination Jyrgalan as we didn't want to lose time.
going there in Feb 2025, any reco or tracks to share?
Cool! No tracks but on my Instagram page there's an overview post with a map that roughly shows our itinerary in Saudi instagram.com/p/C73MiTatRiP/?img_index=1. Specifically for the Hisma desert, we just drove around, following existing tracks and checking on Google satellite view 😅

@@DayInParadise Thank you! Glad you enjoyed these places as well. How tough or scary was the climb?

Thanks! The worm is fine, he likes our trip so far 😝
Uganda misses you❤
Oh how sweet! We wanted to travel further south before the rains so unfortunately decided to skip Uganda. We visited in 2019 and loved it! You can check out some old videos about that trip on my channel 😉.
@ yeah I watched them. They’re the ones that introduced me to your channel. Malawi has been on my vlogging list for long, maybe I’ll try it next year or sooner. Keep creating!
This seems to be a different trail . This trail surface looks some what nice . There are no buildings on the trail we hicked except on mountain top where couple small hotels are there . But the biosphere it self very beautiful . The guide told us the trail we hiked is the toughest and told us we should not have chosen
The Feynan lodge is a bit off the main Wadi Dana/Ghuweir trail. Furthermore no buildings indeed, only at Dana town. Hope you enjoyed the hike!

Omg, what a track!! 🙈 Looking forward to discovering more of Africa with you guys! 😍
Yeah, that 1 day was unexpectedly challenging, more challenging than our actual northern loop where everyone warned us about that the roads are challenging.
How much extra fuel did you carry, was there fill up station in there? Nice video definitely a subscriber
Hello, glad you enjoyed the video and subscribed to my channel! We have 2 tanks of 90l. I think we filled up 1,5 tank before departing. If not needed, we don't fill the second tank as it's a lot of extra weight you carry. But as we adapted our route a bit on the go (adding Reteti & the challenging road over Doldol) we filled up another 20 extra liters at the wind farm at Lloyangalani, just to be sure. This is on private property so no guarantee that they allow you on the premises, but we didn't encounter any issues. Good luck planning the trip!
Nice vlog, I'm Kenyan and I would like to explain the situation at L. Turkana. First of all, those are very remote areas and even finding a Swahili speaking individual is great. The man came to guard you, because its a normal practice to have guards in those remote regions, not because of the locals, but because of bandits or militias who can pause a security threat if encountered. I love that the old man guarded you the whole night. Kenyans are really hospitable people. I hope you enjoyed the trip.
Thanks for elaborating Dianah! As an outsider it can sometimes seem unnecessary to have an askari, as all people we meet are so friendly. But agree that this area suffers from militias, although we informed us well before traveling there and the areas that we traveled to should be relatively safe right now. We really enjoyed our time in Kenya, you live in a beautiful country! Glad you enjoyed the vlog. If you haven't seen them yet, there are 3 other episodes about Kenya 🙂
I've watched all your videos and love this trip! Could you estimate cost? I'm interested in doing it this way to save some money and have a more immersive experience. But also want to prioritize safety as a solo woman
Hi there, glad you enjoyed my videos. Unfortunately it's been a while ago to give you a cost estimate. We rented the car with Roadtrip Uganda, maybe you can take a look at their website for rental rates and other useful information. Good luck planning!
