Totally agree, mods like RICE are almost required
nana oyo
I actually had a mod that added Conrois to Norman culture before the update. The update is actually vastly better than the mod was aswell. Like i felt i made it kind of unbalanced for modding it but then they added something way more op to the base game anyway.
Only playing in 867 skews my perception of heavy Calvary bc whenever I find a heavy Calvary unit i immediately think it’s the most broken thing in the game
Interesting vid
The Norman conrois also have a lower barony travel cost than armored horsemen do. So being a Norman adventurer with full stacks of armored horsemen (conrois) is actually doable, which isn’t ideal with any other culture because they don’t have the conrois.
If you play as Adventurer and conquer a tribal county, then use promote culture, then diverge culture, afterwards if you're still tribal for either 4K or 2K prestige you can add the Hirds tradition for almost 0 embarkation cost. Good heavy infantry that compliments Conrois and you'll never need to buy spearmen again.
I always play as a Norman adventurer with RICE in Sicily 1066 and I always conquer North Africa or Egypt or the Levant and hybridize my culture with the local one and create a trade empire
Come to poland
Just use extreme realm stability
I play the Normans a lot, especially Sicily for some reason

I exclusively play normans. I am Rollo's strongest supporter. We need to bring back Normandy. We need to reconquer England. WE NEED THE CONROIS.

Traveling around as a Horse Lord adventurer is also a lot of fun. Get your horse archer doom stack going then choose wherever you want to play.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while. My best play through ever was a horse lord tribal campaign where I went from Cumania to Constantinople using legend adventure casus belli. I imagine being an adventure would give much more options
@@xjuncewski Very true! As an adventurer with Horse Lord you can take "Life in the Saddle" (a Proving Grounds upgrade) as well as the other camp buildings that increase the amount you can have. I ended up with 5 stacks of 900 Horse Archers. When I chose the place I wanted to settle, I ran over them with my 4,500 Horse Archers and then I was allowed to keep them. My stacks were 9/5 in size and they stayed that way as long as I did not delete the unit. I definitely stayed tribal until I was big enough to pay gold for that army.
In the campaign I’m doing right now I did something similar with the Normans. I went to the Byzantine Empire and got rich fighting in their civil wars, but eventually when I joined a rebel faction and wiped out the imperial army I was offered land to stop fighting. I downsized my army to maintain it and waited like a year for another inevitable civil war. I then declared independence and now I’m planning on carving up the decaying empire. I went from criminal bandit mercenary to biggest threat to the empire and it felt awesome.
@@xjuncewski That's so cool! I'm still doing the "Santa Clause the Viking is coming to town" in India game. My Santa character is currently 60 but his stats are all in the 30 - 50 range so I'm trying to conquer as much territory as I can before he dies. I want to see if I can make one of the Empires with him. I'm also using your trick where my tribal capital has no real vassals. I'm hated by my mayors but I tend to just throw them in jail and execute them when they become a problem.
I'm doing this right now in India. 1) Start as infant Norse on Isle of Mann 2) Become adventurer @ 16 3) Hit all the sites as Explorer 4) Take over tribal location in India with way too many VV 5) Profit
I think a great struggle for Africa could be based on the rise of the Ifat Sultanate in East Africa. It mainly took place from the late 12th century to the 13th century so it could easily be placed in the 1178 start date. The First Ifat Sultan Umar Walasma started his rule in 1197 which isn't too far off the 1178 start date. He began a series of military conquests against his neighbours (namely the sultanate of Shewa) slowly growing the strength of the Ifat Sultanate. After His death the expansion would be continued by his son Sultan Ali Baziyu. It was a historic rivalry between the Christian Abyssinian Kingdoms and the Muslim Cushitic (Afar, Harari and Somali) Sultanates. It would be a good struggle mechanic to add because it suits the theme of CK3 well (the Islamic world coming into confrontation with the Christian world). The rivalry lasted centuries with each side raiding and warring against each other for dominance in the east African region where each side periodically gained an upper foot from time to time. The history of this conflict is filled with examples of espionage, assassination, geostrategic moves, rebellions, betrayals. This rivalry was fuelled by the muslim Cushitic sultanates desire to conquer and convert one of the last and oldest bastions of christendom in Africa as well as become inheritors to the famed ancient Kingdom of Aksum (A bit like how Mehmet the conqueror wanted to conquer Contantinople to become successor to the Roman Empire). And it is in such a religiously diverse region too, I would compare it to Iberia as it was a melting pot of Jews, Christians and Muslims as well as those who still had pagan beliefs. This rivalry climaxed in one of the biggest wars in the 16th century where the Muslim Sultanate of Adal (a successor state to Ifat) that was supported by the Ottomans almost crushed the Abysinians who were supported by the Portuguese before the Christian Abyssinians turned the tide on them finally ending the centuries long rivalry and cementing Abyssinian dominance in the region. Not only does this suit CK3's themes and makes East Africa more interesting, it can also better explain the start date of EU4 and what led up to it. And it is a great way of giving east africa some love since it is the most neglected region of Africa with no special buildings unlike west and north africa.
Incredibly well written comment brother. I’m not knowledgeable on this region. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is the conflict that highlighted the Oromo Calvary? Maybe I’m mistaken. With struggles and flavor pacts we usually get unique units and throne rooms as well. Something I would love for Africa as a whole. A good example is the Kurdish unique Calvary which sets them apart in mountains and hills, and they counter the heavy infantry which much their region uses. This makes a Kurdish play through very unique and when they fight in their own territory they do so extremely effectively. I don’t know anything about East Africa, but I would assume they also had unique military capabilities to suit their environments and solve their problems.
@@xjuncewski Well the Oromo are not native to the Horn of Africa, hence why they are not represented as a culture in the game. Instead Oromos are native to Northern Kenya. And Ironically after the Abyssinian-Adal war concluded, both sides were exhausted from centuries of on and off conflict with the Adal sultanate having collapsed due to their defeat by the Abyssinians under Emperor Gelawdewos. Due to geological changes in their homeland, the Oromos began a series of military expansions during the 16th century. The Oromo cavalry proved crushing when it came to their expansion into Abyssinian lands. Unfortunately they can't be included in CK3 due to the timeframe but it would've been cool to see a mechanic similar to the Magyar expansion implemented. If you play as an east african country in EU4 you will experience their expansion though. In terms for special military units though during a possible struggle mechanic there are loads such as the Chewa regiments of Abyssinia and Ifat would use Argobba Auxiliaries in their military. Their recruitment was similar to the Janissary system the Ottomans had in which the Ifat sultanate would expand into non muslim lands and take non muslim soldiers to be their soldiers.
Aha thanks for clarifying. This region is so much more flavourful in real history than in the game. So much lost potential…
@@xjuncewski I'm still optimistic since we are still in the early days of CK3. There is still a lot more flavour that I expect to be added over the years. Don’t lose hope!
do you think that maybe your impression of older people is colored by where you work? My grandparents all had very different reactions to being old, one was totally forgetful (dementia) while another was riding bikes until he was 85~.
I could definitely see that. I might have a bias because I see a lot of old people who have to come here, as opposed to old people who are doing fine on their own
If the response to this event by the corporations and complacent government is to crack down on people and continue these practices, then i can see how you're assumptions could come to be.

Jewish Africa run was fun AF. My holy order was clutch in fighting when everyone hated me. I hated that tenant that slowed conversion in towns not of my culture. I guess i should have reformed it out.
Currently doing a Isreal run and it’s sort of similar, I’m gucci though bc it’s a Norse character so i just use varangians
Yeah I was thinking similar things about diaspora events. But Yiddish man remember Yiddish shares a lot of German, hence ashkenazi and German
lmao what a title
@BrettonianKnight come and meet them they r all here
To be honest, i rarely play on Europe, it is so boring having to justify claims, conquest casus-belli is like a drug, once you got it, you never want to go back wasting cash to get the claim. Beside, steppe horse lords deserve an migration casus bell, it is kinda sad that norse got it, and accepting contracts as an horse lord.
They did kind of do some unique stuff with Persia. You can sponsor a conquest. I’m the same I’m the biggest Europe hater, but recently I’ve been playing Norman adventures and invading random non-Christian nations.
East Africa, I agree. West Africa is never gonna be fleshed out based on the fact that we know almost no precise historical details of anything. I guess you could simulate the Trans-Saharan camel trade, that might be kinda fun.
Marinate in the mystery😏….
Ashkenazi were definitely primarily settled in Bavaria, Cisalpine Germany, Austria, etc. but also have about 10% Slavic input and still maintain a genetic connection to the Levant. I had a 23 and me done a few years back. Mostly Bavarian/Rhinelander on my German side, but did have some Ashkenazi as well.
An innocent fox, caught in the crossfire.
Dude. I was just planning a Jewish world domination playthrough (just for fun, lol). Stop reading my mind, algorithm!
WHAT THEY NEED TO DO IS, DON'T KNOW HOW HARD IT IS BUT, GIVE US 1/2 OF MORROWIND, ALL OF OBLIVION,& SKYRIM, BUT IN THE STORYLINE, FACTIONS, SIDE QUESTS, WEAPONS, SECRETS, NO STARFIELD, & EYE CANDY (GRAPHICS)EVERYONE IS DOING IT SO, YEAH SORRY 😔
AAAWWWHGGGG
A bit late but do you think it’s better to stay as a duke/count or bump up to kingdom (or maybe empire)? At what point should you stop grabbing land and start playing tall?
From my own experience as long as you make prestige and stay tribal the strategy works. The entire thing hinges on man at arms and raiding though, so maxing out your regiments is vital. Rank gives you more man at arms so moving up to emperor is probably best
Also vassals become a problem because of opinion, they will hate you for holding so much domain. I guess you have to either terrify them or revoke their stupid land
Ashkenazi (Central and Eastern Europe) Sephardi (North Africa and Spain) Mizrahi (Middle eastern) Radhinite (the steppes and Silk Road) Cochin (the south western Indian coast) And the ones not in game Beta Israeli (Ethiopia) Kaifeng Jews (China) Teimanim Jews (Yemen) Source: I’m Jewish
@@0jacon0ice0 it's weird that there isnt a "form beta Israel" and a Beta Israeli culture as a actual culture, and not just a name option when you divulged a Israelite culture in East Africa, in game as there is a Achievement called Beta Israel. They did it for the Cochin and Bene Israel and that one doesn't have a Achievement if I remember right.
The Romaniote Jews are also not in the game. They really should have been added with the Roads to Power update.
The… romantic?😏
@@levithompson478 Fair, I tend to forget about them since they usually get roped into ashkenazi or sephardi. They really could've gotten added in Roads to Power
yokudans lol. they are kind of like the nedes (nords before they were called nords) in the sense that they traveled to tamriel from a whole different continent called yokuda.technically yokudans ARE the redguards. its just that forebears and crowns are the two different cultures that divide that one race. cool video btw. i doubt bethesda would ever introduce this stuff but honestly i would not be surprised if this stuff was added with mods if their engine is improved like they said it was
The nedes aren’t just nords bro they’re ancestors of all humans. If Bethesda doesn’t listen I will resort to unconventional methods
@@xjuncewski most humans save for the redguards yeah. i'd do unholy things to see more stuff involving this stuff from bethesda.
What happened to the khazar jews in real history? Did they just marry into other Jewish groups?
haha don't ask me, i'll pin ur comment and see if anyone knows
They dispersed, some say they are the ancestors of Ashkenazi jews but that isn't very supported. They mostly dispersed into everything around them, Hungarians, Cossacks, Kazakhstan, Crimea Tartars, etc.
No one is really sure about what happened to the Khazars, except for the fact that they didn't marry into the Ashkenazim.
Well the Khazar Jews were mostly just the ruling class of the Khazars who had converted. So they mostly just converted to other neighboring religions or reverted to their previous faiths. The Jewish peoples who would have been present around them too were the Radhanite
Oh you like Judaism? Name every Jew.
umm... the rothschild's?
i could, but it would take a while so i wont
If a culture got eradicated, it wouldn't be diasporic it be dead. The Jewish cultures have Diaspora because they were all kicked out of the Levant by the Roman Empire after their many revolts, they are a people with no homeland. I don't know much about every culture in the game but they would need to fit that criteria as the tradition itself brings up having no homeland. "People of this culture have lost the homeland they once held dear. Some among them travel the world searching for a place where they may begin anew" I'm sure someone could find a way make that a event line, but then you'd either just let the culture keep the tradition, even if they got a new homeland or retaken their old one, or have it where at the end you lose the tradition. I Do know a mod that allows you to turn your culture to hebrew if you reform the Kingdom of Israel. Its called Sons of Judah : Jewish Flavour.
Ashkenazi is derived from Ashkenaz, which is the Hebrew word for Germany. Sephardic is derived from Sefarad, which is the Hebrew word for Spain. The thing is, there are a lot of other minor Jewish cultures that aren't represented in game either. Just to give you an idea for future Jewish cultures. Mizrahi dreives from the Hebrew word for East, encompassing basically the Arabic speaking world, except Iraq(who are correctly called Bavli as they are centered around old Babylon), Zarphadic derives from the Hebrew word Zarfad, basically encompass what is today France. Yevanic derives from a corrupted Persian pronounciation of Ionian, AKA Greek. Kaifengi derives from the city of Kaifeng, a city in China with a small Jewish community which are still around to this day.
Not true Ashkenaz is the first son of Gomer, who is the first son of Japheth.
ashkenazi jews (yes, basically all european jews except for spain, which are traditionally the sephardis), (even back then) spoke a language called Yiddish, which is basically a sister language to german and a dialect to high german. similar to how sephardis speak ladino, which is a language similar to spanish. also, i think khazaria speaks ogur, not shaz turkic, but i might be wrong about that
They should not speak at all, in my opinion, more mysterious that way
Just commenting for the algorithm! Enjoyed your thoughts!
Well, theres RICE mod that realy help with some regions that underdeveloped. You would like it, im sure.
Ashkenazi refers to jews that setteled in europe amd becouse (at the time) most european jews lived in the holy roman empire the game chose german to represent there culture (im preaty sure that the jewish population of poland and russia will eclipes the german jewish population during the era that eu4 covers but im not sure about that)
