Discover Gilbert AZ: 10 Reasons to Move Here
I moved to Arizona 24 years ago and the heat is no problem.
You were walking in Powerranch. Just sold my home in there.
Haha. Yep, I was. That’s where I live.
I moved to San Francisco from Denver back in the 80's. However, before I made the jump, I visited twice to confirm my move to validate my decision.
Good idea!
I moved to AZ 49 years ago. It was fine. Now it is a %%$# show with move ins.....
And it’s still continuing to attract people relocating
You could have moved to a higher elevation in AZ... Williams, Flagstaff, Snowflake. I have a pad down in Huachucha City which is near Tombstone and Bisbee, I'm at 4,600' in Huachuca - Much nicer climate that phoenix or Tuscon
That’s what I love about this state. More than just what people think (hot and dry and desert)
I moved to AZ 3.5 years ago from central Illinois (C-U). I knew it was hot so that was no surprise, but what I wasn't expecting was how cold it would get in the winter time. It also seems to me that it's a different kind of cold. Last winter was so cold, I had to break out gloves and a hat just to take my dog for a walk. Also, on the "no one knows how to drive" part, I tend to agree but my biggest culture shock is no one wants to drive anywhere here. When I lived in Illinois, it was nothing to drive 30 minutes to go somewhere especially if you lived in a small town and needed to go to the bigger town to shop or run errands. Here, if you tell someone that something is 20 minutes away from their neighborhood, you get a lot of people who just say they won't drive that far. Also, no one is on time in Arizona. If you tell someone to be somewhere at a certain time, they are for sure going to be late. Sometimes, it's traffic, most of the time, they just come late and don't seem to even acknowledge they are late. However, like you, I wouldn't change anything compared to the idea of living in Illinois. ;)
100%! Especially about the cold. This is actually an updated video, and I did the same exact one a year ago. In that video, I mentioned how surprised I was about the “cold “ here. And yes, about no one wanting to drive far. Like you, I was used to driving “far” in central IL for things. Here, I had another realtor refer me a client, because they didn’t want to drive 40 minutes. lol . I recently went back to Peoria to visit, and, it was nice to see friends , family and what was comfortable. However, it feels like there is nothing there, after living here and having everything so close. Thanks for watching though!!
Yo it's the train ride in Golds Fields. That was a dope experience
Definitely
Chicagoan here moved to AZ short-term for school. Differences: dry heat as opposed to humidity, more spread out towns, lots of highways with higher speed limits, no tolls, cheaper gas, more portholes on roads, more homeless people, for me my skin darkened as a person of color bc I didn’t wear sunscreen
Do you like it more here or in IL?
@@ArizonaLife1 I’m moving back to IL after this year! Miss having all 4 seasons plus all my family is up there
@@angelicasingh9570 I can understand that. Need any help with selling here or buying there?
great video!!
Thanks for watching!
It’s great in AZ but the new residents from California are slowly destroying the state.
Definitely a lot of Californians here...Thankfully, my clients who made that move are all amazing people.
People in Az are rude as heck. People are so much nicer in Illinois and the Midwest in general. Every time I go out of state I’m amazed at the difference. I want to move away from here so bad but can’t afford to currently. Someday….
I agree with you somewhat. Thanks for watching!
Gilbert once was a great small town that has become way too overcrowded. It’s not made for this amount of people. Once they started making mass apartment buildings, Gilbert fell. Nothing wrong with apartments but that brings transient people with more crime. Gilbert is not that safe anymore and unfortunately the police can not keep up like they use to. I would NOT recommend anyone to move here anymore. Again, a once great place that became way too much!
It is definitely much buster than it used to be. As someone who came from a higher crime area, and has a background in it, I still consider Gilbert safe for me and my family. Everyone needs to assess that for themselves
#1 Gilbert. Home of the Gilbert Goons!!
Wow… What a deal 🙄
Simply wrong. I've seen a +30% decline in the past 6 months on areas we have been monitoring. Nothing is crash proof, especially not AZ.
Which areas are you monitoring?
Moved to Phoenix from Rockford, IL in 1986 to go to ASU. The plan was to move to California in 4 years. By the time I graduated, I had no interest in moving to California after multiple visits. And realized I love Arizona. I have no plans to leave.
but at least in Illinois now I can cancel out some sheeple votes
the smart thing you want to keep your money just do not bother with the US Isle of Man they have own currency own laws go big but do not go home New Zealand why bother with Arizona because of the border Immigrate elsewhere
anyone considering this is a sheeple in one of the two political parties sheeple I tell you do what you told truth
Thank you for this post. I agree Arizona is a shock to most people who move here. Arizonans are the worst global citizens! When it comes to progressive ideas, we are far behind other places such as Portland, Seattle, and Austin. Who would want to move here? To all the people wanting to move here from New York, Chicago and California as well as many other heavily populated cities across the country, as well as those considering a visit: Before you come to Arizona you must be aware of what is happening here - especially, around the rural and, well, all of Arizona. There's a housing shortage and rent has tripled. The various Arizona police agencies shoot first and ask questions later. Our sources inform that they wear red ballcaps under their riot helmets, and these tend to vote with the far-Right Christians who wish to impose a theocracy. You may recall these super-spreaders congregated in homes during the pandemic. Moreover, if you plan on moving to Arizona, or just plan on vacationing in our deserts, hill country, mountains or lakes, I think you should also know that poisonous Gila Monsters, tarantulas and rattlesnakes have infested resorts, office buildings, churches, and recreational sites across the area due to dryer and hotter than usual weather. What few bodies of desert tanks and lakes we have are infested with mosquitos. West Nile Virus has not only re-emerged, but a new strain has developed which has no vaccine or cure. Death occurs typically in 3-10 days. The suburbs are overrun with mountain lions and black bears who are killing cyclists. These lions and bears are as big as a Volkswagen Beetle. These have eaten many domesticated animals and possibly some small children. We have had bear and lion sightings at every park and town, and they are after picnic baskets. Mexican wolves (repopulated by Arizona Game and Fish) have been spotted near motel rooms and bars. Recently a Hell’s Angel biker was taken down at 16th Street and Bell (RIP). Snakes... don’t even get me started on the Diamondback Rattlers here. The indigenous Diamondbacks are cross breeding with Burmese pythons. We find them in our garages and at the front door in the mornings. Several have reported them six meters in length. A Paradise Valley resident reported that her Belgian Mastiff was swallowed whole. The hospitals have no anti-venom for these hybridized serpents. The major cities are full of drunks and fentanyl addicts peeing on themselves. Vicious cartels govern the state. At the behest of the Sinaloan Crime Family our State House of Representatives is sending a bill to the Senate whereas Xylazine would be sold over the counter as a recreational drug. Conversely, the outer municipalities (Gila Bend, Globe, et al.) have outlawed deodorants such as Axe and Old Spice because these products contain alcohol. We have the rabies-infected black-footed ferrets invading our parks and their mating season is Labor Day-Memorial Day. Porcupines and armadillos (both also rabid) from Texas have migrated in great numbers and are "stabbing" small children should they dare utilize the local playground equipment. Javelinas, especially mamas with piglets in tow (also rabid), will gore curiosity seekers to death. Skunks (also rabid) have made their way to Arizona and multiplied at unprecedented rates and wander the local campgrounds in packs looking for beer. There are great swarms of murderous African bees that attack anyone with a sweet drink in hand. Giant grasshoppers are devouring crops and clouds of locusts have laid lawns barren. Scorpions emerge from shower drains and no longer congregate under rocks, logs, steps, automobiles - the good news: after 3-4 stings (if you survive) you are henceforward immune. Parasitic head lice build nests in your hair and we have vampire bats (also rabid) clinging under roof overhangs - if you walk out after dusk, they’ll latch on to you. Also, no one is vaccinated here! And everyone carries a gun. The only visitors that seem to make it out alive and without disease are snowbird Canadians. No one can explain these phenomena.
I currently live in Tahati, and I find it preferable to Tucson
Please stop moving to Arizona from all Arizonas we don’t want yall here yall left your dump state for a reason dont come mess up our state
Agreed. “People drive insane.”
Phoenix is great if you like man made everything 1 1/2 seasons and tons of cheap dope.
Californians have ruined Arizona, just like everywhere else they move to. Real estate has skyrocketed in the last few years, and they are bringing their political bullshit beliefs here.
Thank you. This is super helpful. I lived in the desert before in NV, so I know about the cold. Moving from the south. I can't do this humidity anymore. I like the desert and the cold. I'm trying to narrow it down between AZ and NM. Ready to get back out west! I've only driven through these two states, but from West Coast. Any advice you or anyone else here has would be helpful. I do not want to live somewhere super crowded. Thanks!
Did you make a decision yet?
@@ArizonaLife1not yet. I need to wait a bit still to move (next year). I was literally just complaining about living down here in the southeast. I'm trying to narrow down where I want to move to. I was looking at the southern part of AZ at one point. I also looked at the northern part of AZ, but it's super spendy. I do not want to live near a large city and Phoenix suburbs keep spreading. The realtor I was talking to in NM reached out last week.
If you're liberal, if you vote democrat, DON'T MOVE HERE!!! IT'S A HELLHOLE!!!!!
He's yet another realtor, selling off our beautiful state, but seems to be surprised. What do you mean "no one is from here " ? Any traffic issues we are now dealing with is due to people like this, and an invasion from CA. It's promouned 'Mo-gee-own" rim. It's Spanish. And , remember to pack your oven mitts so you can drive here during summer. Added tip. :) 🌞 🌵
Calm down Rosenne. :)
Arizona is a safe option...according to all the conspiracy maps. You might have to drive into the mountains a bit. Water is an issue. Our power grid is in better shape than most.
Mansel Carter
I live in Gilbert (across the street from agritopia) and I agree it’s a great place to live. However due to demand and because of Gilbert nearing buildout (few homes are being built now mostly apartments) home prices in Gilbert have gone way up in price. My house is about 2700 sq feet and I paid $300k for it 11 years ago. A house with the same floor plan sold for $586k recently. So if you want a new build home you’ll probably have to go further south to queen creek or San Tan Valley where they’re still building subdivisions.
Are the rats at the Phoenix VA really bigger than cats ?
I appreciate it!!! You helped me make my decision as a Police Officer myself.
When he never mentioned the CRITTERS - I knew he is just being a salesman not telling you about the bad things.
Snakes & Scorpions? If you live in the middle of the desert on a large lot you will have snakes. Live in a development or older area and you will not. Scorpions are hit and miss, and you can spray for them.
Born and raised in Chicago and area, moved to AZ 40 years ago don't miss Illinois a bit, you never had a 30 degrees during the daytime in Phoenix.
There's isn't enough water for the expansion of population that's currently going on. Don't get me wrong, I love the desert. I have family in Prescott, Phoenix. Tempe, Tucson and Green Valley. Water is always the main topic. Especially Green Valley where competition with tree orchards and the mines are horrendous. I choose south western Oregon where my personal water supply is owned by me. Endless!
Scottsdale, Ahwatukee, Gilbert, and Paradise Valley skew the averages. Realistically you can survive on 60k and still own a 2bed 2bath.
Did the opposite regret it
Come on back.
You’re from Illinois and you think it’s cold here in the winter? The coldest winter night in Phoenix is like a spring day up North. Even in December and January I’m good at night with a thick hoodie and jeans. During the day I’m wearing long sleeve Tshirts (it gets up to low 70s for highs on sunny winter days). Winter in Phoenix is awesome
Got to agree about bad AZ Drivers. When biking I always make sure cars are actually stopping at red lights (sometimes they don’t) before crossing an intersection. Recently a woman lost control of her car while texting and crashed through a fence and ended up in a greenbelt in our subdivision. Luckily she didn’t hit anyone.
It is hotter than hell there. Don't move there!!!!
Don’t vote Democrat!
Dont drive an Acura here. It WILL catch fire mid ride.
Any restaurant recs in Scottsdale?
Great video!
Welcome to Arizona but if you are fleeing your state's tyrannical taxes and politics leave it in that state. Don't bring it with you. Don't destroy Arizona by bringing the same attitude and politics that forced your move in the first place.
Most people don’t come to AZ because of politics. I moved to AZ when Evan Meacham was governor (Google him if you want an uncomfortable laugh). Most people move here to get better jobs and to escape the cold.
Love AZ, we're gonna move there someday soon when hubby retires. Gilbert or Chandler are at the top of our list!!
That’s great! Thanks for watching!
Where did he end up going?
Massachusetts. But…he actually just moved back to AZ!

Why does everyone think Phoenix is the only place to live in Arizona? I do agree with you. These towns are great Phoenix suburbs.
