I don’t get why woodturners don't do this more?
Woodturning is an incredibly fun and rewarding hobby. Proper lathe maintenance is probably one of the most overlooked aspects of woodturning. Regular maintenance will not only increase the lifespan of your lathe, but will make it safer and more enjoyable to use, while likely improving the quality of your finished pieces. It can be easy to overlook, but is vital to a successful woodturning experience. Thanks for watching! I hope you have a great day!

Woodturning an Amazing Almond Wood Vessel
Woodturning a vessel from a section of an almond tree and epoxy resin. In this video I used the rest of the almond tree wood that was left over from the almond root video I made a few months back. I am extremely happy with how this piece turned out. I feel it is probably my best piece of turning to date. The proportions just feel right. The resin mold was made from cardboard concrete footing tu...

Turning Branches Into a Stunning Resin Bowl!
This was a really fun woodturning project. I had cut down this small tree from my side yard about three years ago and had been saving this branch in my shop to make a hiking stick out of. I decided to try and use it in a turning piece instead. It wasn't going to be enough wood, so I added a few pieces of a walnut tree branch I had laying around as well. I am really happy with how this bowl turn...
Woodturning a Square into a Triangle?
This was my fisrt attempt at woodturning a tri-corner bowl from a cube. I used my last piece of 8/4 walnut scrap to make this piece. Even though I had some issues with the pressure pot, I am very pleased with how this piece turned out. I was a little nervous about turning a cube mounted on the corners, but in the end I was nervous for no resean. This was a fun piece that pushed the limits of my...
Woodturning a Special Request for my Wife
My beautiful amazing wife asked me to make her some unique candle stick holders. These banksia seed pods definitely create a unique look and capping the pods with some Sapele hardwood gave a nice touch. This was a rare project that I had to purchase the materials. Banksia pods come from a woody shrub/tree native to Australia. I was able to source these seed pods online from Rockler, though ther...
Woodturning Rotted Root with Amazing Grain
Woodturning with roots is without a doubt my favorite material to create with. Every piece is very unique with the wood grain going in every direction. I picked up a large root ball for free from Offer up a few months back. It had been used as a decoration in someone’s garden and had been sitting out in the elements for years. It has lots of voids and rotted spots in it, so before making someth...
Woodturning a Spectacular Split Log Vessel
Thank you very much to everyone who voted in the poll for the color of this piece. My wife found a Facebook post for free wood in my area. I was able to get a bed full of these Eucalyptus logs. I cut most of them into a variety of bowl blanks, but kept a few logs as well. I specifically did not seal this particular log because I wanted it to crack for this specific design. Unfortunately there a...
Olive Wood Bowl That is Out of This World!
I have had these Olive wood logs for a while now and have been saving them for something special. This is an amazing wood to turn. Besides for the stunning wood grain, it smells very pleasant and is a joy to work with. A few weeks back my friend Mike Holton posted a video of a bowl he made from Jarrah Burl wood and resin. I loved the shape and just couldn’t get it out of my head when thinking o...
Woodturning Sweet Gum Seed Pods Into Stunning Box
My neighbors tree drops these seed pods in my backyard every year. I decided I would try to make something with them instead of just throwing them in the waste bin. I used zebra wood for the end caps and part of the lid. The eye candy Komainu ultracolor shift pigment powder looks absolutely amazing combined with the superclear deep pour epoxy resin. I chose to use Waterlox original for the fini...
Woodturning a Fantastic Bowl From a Flat Board

This is my first attempt at woodturning a bowl from a board. The inspiration for this piece was from a video by thepapa1947. For a full instructional video on this process, please watch his video. Woodturning- The Almond Root
I was given this Almond tree root ball from a member of my local woodturning club. This is my first attempt at turning a root ball. I was definitely a little nervous about this one, it was the largest and most unbalanced piece I have turned to date. Originally I had planned to not use any resin in this piece, but unfortunately there was no way I was going to be able to hallow it out and have it...
Woodturning Unique Walnut Vase
I am turning this vessel from a walnut crotch log I won in a raffle at my local woodturners club meeting. I had some indecision about what resin project to do next, I just couldn’t pick one from the list. So I decided to take a break and make something out of just wood for a change. Definitely a fun, quick piece and I got some practice in with my all my tools. Even got to try out my new lathe s...

Woodturning Elegant Walnut Keepsake Box

Today I am making a simple elegant box from spalted walnut. I will be testing out some new carbide tools, a new epoxy resin, and a new finish.
