No Forbidden Planet? DTESS is a good movie, but FP is more. Probably the first sci-fi movie to go off world and not be ridiculous. It holds up better and is still great to watch.

Based on your analysis of Arrival, I'd accidentally communicated with dolphins and know the inventor of the Alpha Synthauri, and have had promising conversations with Claude, a leading chat AI. And I have to go with that. We don't need a Exolinguist, just one willing to talk.

I'm ok with most of his rankings, but I would have sunk Gravity to the bottom for its incredibly bad understanding of physics. Also CE3K probably should have ranked better by a notch or two.

As for your ratings, I disagree most... The one you gave an A because you did the commentary afterwards, and your hardiness on Spielberg.

I would love to see you talking about Dune's folding space... or the asimov's galaxy being prepared for the encounter with intelligence from another Galaxy... it would be interesting to hear your take on Dune's incompetent AI, that can't beat humans and finish the series as our overlord's slaves.

In the '50s/'60s my favorite gendre was sci-fi because I love science. I would get upset when the script would violate every law of physics. At first I thought it was ignorance, but I begin to notice the choices should have gotten something correct by chance, not wrong 100% of the time. IT WAS INTENTIONALLy ANTI-SCIENCE. Why? The writer was perhaps anti-life.

  • @1voluntaryist

The Thing, the Alien franchise, Blade Runner, This Island Earth, Predator, No Blade of Grass, They Live. Best sci-fi script ever: "Death Wish" - Star Trek, the next generation. I don't like time travel, can't forgive the paradox.

I think you've been a little too harsh on Back to the Future III. It's more of a spoof western than a sci-fi movie, and on that level it works surprisingly well. There are some unforgettable nods to classics of the genre... like Doc's dance at the fair, with is a frame-for-frame recreation of Henry Fonda in My Darling Clementine. I'd say it's the better of the two sequels, by far....

If you're going to mention the lack of blacks in Close Encounters, then I'll note that few to no Asians are in leading or supporting roles in all the films that you named. Only the Star Trek Series has Asians in it. Asians are either cast as computer geeks or doctors. This fact includes non Sci-Fi films. Am I on target? The Thing is my favorite alien, and the second is Alien.

If one day aliens want to come to earth, first, it would be their robots/rovers that make it here. No sci-fi movie shows that. When we go to Mars, first we send robots and rovers decades before sending humans. There is no way any intelligent being comes to our planet before sending equipments to properly study the planet. Just doesn't make any sense to me. It's naive to think that an advanced alien civilization comes here and breathe our air and exposes himself to our germs before sending probing equipments and communication devices here. I bet our first contact would be with their unmanned equipment, and not with the aliens themselves. Don't you think?

5:30 Listen to Rogan.... He's such a hypocrite! 🤣 he's loaded with ink. Tattoos? I don't have tattoos for the same sense of well-being I use for rationalizing not using a microwave. Listen, Mr. StarAstroMan on this Earth there are few things a person can actually have control over to minimize what sort of toxins enters our body. So you have to atleast try to reject those that you can. So Neil, you can understand the concept of not wanting to put tattoos, or tat ink in your body, but you can't understand the concept of not wanting to consume chemically enhanced microwaved food?🙄🙄 Sir, have you ever heard of the term 'duck logic?' th-cam.com/video/mBpFphWWWAk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=C7CScaKBzskVvo1L The argument you just made is contradicting and total duck logic and 100% does not make any sense to me. 😑 None! In interstellar they didn't actually do that plan B the real plan was using the embryos not bringing earths population beaux that would be impossible. That's why the project was called Lazerus because most of humanity would die except for the crew and embryos on the new planet and so from there humanity would bounce back.

About the microwave that's an irrevelant issue. And why do you guys like taking dumb statements from dumb people to build a discussion on! The use, or none use of a microwaves? Should it matter if someone chooses not to incorporate a microwave to cook food in their own home or not? Isn't it a personal choice, like if someone chooses to take showers over taking baths🙄 or not use a gas stove, but instead chooses to use an electric stove? 🙄 its not a secret that microwaves do encourage, fast, unhealthy eating habits and encourage the purchasing of highly processed foods that are unhealthy with, or without a microwave. Premade meals loaded in sodium. It's not the microwave that's entirely harmful, but the long line of garbage food-like products they push in grocery stores for the microwave. How can you be unconcerned about these health issues, but be overly concerned about us taking the vaccine? 🙄 Social media influencers shouldn't worry about micromanaging every thought of followers, just as followers should not worry about micromanaging every thought of social media influencers. If microwave companies aren't out defending their own product and educating about it Neil then who signed you up for microwave spokesman/superhero? 😂 You're the coolest, and I hate when I have to disagree with you, but don't you think sometimes you're a little too controlling with your viewers? Can someone make a personal choice without it being up for bashing by social media?🙄🤨 I'm just saying... The existence of s. media is unhealthy why aren't you bashing that?😑 😏
