I may seem confrontational but I ask not out of conflict but in effort establish a foundation to stand on. Nice short video but I could ask many questions about each titled segment of this video. Within the entropy segment time was discussed. I ask this, if experience defines existence would past, present and future only be a relaitive perception of destination or target of experience? How that resolves within the dimensional reality we exist has yet to be understood but the laws of thermodynamics would cause issues for certain uses of existence would it not?
For me, I think my experiences shape my views on existence. For things like pure energy and objects without a mind to analyze what is occurring, what does existence mean? For a rock that does not seem to be aware of anything I'm assuming the beginning and the end happens at the same time for it. From the rocks perspective.😊

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve increasingly heard physicists move away from the “elegant universe” hypothesis. I think that’s reasonable given that we can only quantify that which we can make sense of.
They don't know what is not a place or space. The PBS mouthpiece has hidden more relevant truths than most. He questions the truth is all he proffeses is really his absolute unknowing.

One thing that always gets overlooked in these discussions is the role that conscious awareness plays. Imagine you are a single point of conscious awareness and want to know what it feels like to relate to something else. What is essentially going on here is that this singular consciousness is dreaming into existence an imagined universe, then embedding portions of its consciousness into that “block” universe so that it can know “experientially” what it already knows “intellectually”. You, I, the dog down the street, a blade of grass; these all contain the conscious awareness of that singular original source. Prove me wrong.

Did this mirror universe start with maximum entropy at the end of its timeline and work back in time towards the big bang? This mirror universe would be 13.7 billion years from the end of its timeline (also the beginning from the perspective of its inhabitants) and contain very high entropy. Is the juxtaposition of our universe and the mirror universe timeline/entropy value what we describe as symmetrical? Would these two universes be correlated in the wider multiverse/Hilbert space? If proof was discovered of the mirror universe, wouldn't this imply that the future is pre determined even on a macroscopic classical scale?
Nothing is the absence of difference. It is a true misunderstanding to believe that "actual" nothing means emptiness, void, etc... If there is no difference between two discrete things then you are both nothing and everything at the same time. You have no awareness of the other and you are nothing and everything at the same time.
Also, at timecode 5:50 Sean Carol has basically claimed that universes themselves as a whole are "entangled" with each other and entropy is a universe's entanglement (spin) we are observing/experiencing. This actually gives great insight why individual particles are entangled. Particle "A" is traveling forward in time and Particle "B" is traveling backward in time. Now we know why entanglement is happening. Mystery solved...particle entanglement then is a direct consequence of entropy. This makes perfect sense. It is a way the universe creates/maintains differences.
At timecode 9:26 when talking about the brain correcting for the basketball sound/vision Sean Carroll has implicitly claimed that the human brain can override/solve the "uncertainty principle". Meaning, for the brain to recalculate the pat and create an image of "now" for the observer the brain must be able to overcome the problem of the uncertainty principle. The brain by constructing a sense of the "present" has overcome the uncertainty principle. You can't have it both ways. Either the brain violates the uncertainty principle or the brain cannot construct a "present".
It actually makes me super anxious the very thought of how somthing (the very 1st particle perhaps, popping into "existence" could hv just happened. How!? Somthing out of nothing. And such long ago. And how much has happened in that vast window of time.
I wish I never asked that same question. The worst part is I don't think we'll ever know.
@AT-wl9yq yup. That's 1 of the questions that can never be answered unfortunately. It twists my brain more than any other question. Even more so than an infinite past, or block universe or any other question you can ponder because it all has to begin with how!?
What's even worse is when you realize all the laws of nature are intrinsically tied to this universes existence, the laws which would apply to causality have no bearing on how the universe came to be. It's kind of like asking what's north of the north pole or what existed before existence. It's inconceivable. Philosophically speaking it's seems more probable the Universe always existed and what we have now is simply a variant of what ever it is.
So when people ask, "what caused the universe to exist?" It's an immediate dead end because Cause and effect didn't come into existence until the Universe and it's laws did.
Science might be able to answer how things came to be in the future. We will probably already be deceased at that point. If someone asks why though that might require something similar to God and there would have to be a reason that this entity created everything. But if there was not a creator, with a mind, creating everything then there might not actually be a why. Lol, on a personal level, since I don't really care about the how and why, I don't feel any anxiety or stress about the topic.

The asymmetry of time actually implies the accumulation of time, more precisely, history, variety.

But what you didn't notice about the movement of the basketball, is that in the presence (heat) of man, the natural movement of the molecules followed, from the left the ball rotated inward to the right and from the right it rotated inwardly to the left! In conclusion, the molecules follow the easy path depending on the area, I guess inside the planet, taking the left, going outwards and the right inwards, then stratification, inertia and gravity...!

I've been on an incomprehensible journey of knowledge over the many years of following you, Neil. Amongst many other scientific idols. The Double Slit Experiment is ALWAYS in the back of my mind. Can you please help me better understand or make sense of my thoughts on the mystery. Again, please forgive my "crazy" brainotes or lack of understanding.
We are told that particles can exist at 2 places at the same time (quantum entanglement) and Schrodinger's cat is both alive & dead. Reminding us, that the simple act of observing or measuring. Can the behavior of the particles (or photons) & alter the outcome of the double slit experiment.
I'm always viewing the experiment conducted in a linear way, but what would the outcome be if it was conducted bilaterally, inside a confined "box" with reflective "walls, floors & ceilings" while both "target walls" being unobserved, then followed with both being observed. What about if one side is observed while the other isn't? What will the results show?
Another possible solution is to somehow find a way to both observe & not observe the experiment. Maybe even through time, just as we transcend time while viewing a distant Galaxy many light years away. What WE "presently" can observe, is not. what is "presently" there. What if we could beat the photon to the finish line. It's the universal limit, so it can essentially do whatever it wants in a sense. But, what if we can beat it to the finish line before it even realizes it's being observed, or being greeted rather at the "target wall" results, thus allowing us to decide the outcome of the experiment. Whether observed or not.
With that being said, what if we increase the scale of the double slit experiment across many light years of space, taking a quantum problem & introducing it into a universal scale.
No one will ever know why the universe exist. Thats far above any human brain can comprehend and have a definite answer. Everything we have learned is what man has informed us with.
The question isn't "why does the universe exist?" Rather, how did the universe come into existence? Lawrence Krauss said something about the collision of two pseudo-particles at the right time at the right angle. Hmmmmm.

is there anything infinite or unlimited in the known measurable world? No, some numbers are really bug, sometimes we call it infinite becuse of how big it is, but it is always in fact a finit number.
The only thing we still assume could be infinite is the Universe itself, but most likely it's not infinite, it's closed, so at some point you come to were you started, so you can't reach an end, but there is a limit to everything inside this closed system.
But suddenly we have infinite number of "parallel" universes, just because. Because we can't measure something good enough, because it is so small that we affect it with out measuring tools and thus affect the result. And we don't talk about making better tools or methods, we talk about splitting infinite Universes. Right.
The arrow of time is a metaphorical analogy. Science, rebukes, metaphors and analogies. An arrow can move through time. The past is different from the future because of time. The difference that time makes between the past, and the future is caused by motion. Time is the reason for motion. Motion changes everything with time for example, the weather. We experienced time through our star the sun. Solar weather! 3:59
A better question is, "Why do we wonder why the universe exists"? Why does it seem odd to us "that there is anything at all"? And why should it ever occur to us that somehow "nothing" existing should be more likely than "something"? (Nothing or "nothingness" if you like, is a concept without a referent. There is no reason to believe that "nothing" exists, ever did in any sense exist, or ever could exist.)
What does entropy mean ?
Chaos.
While there is no simple way to explain entropy, the best way I can put it is that over time, the parameters of a system tend to change, and while it is possible to return to previous parameters, it does get harder to do so. Think of rechargeable batteries. After so many charge cycles, they don't hold as much charge as before.
The universe existing annihilates the definition of Nothing
Neil I have a question for you. Why do we consider Phobos and Deimos (I think that is their correct spelling) to be moons when they're so small they can't even become spherical? I think if we can come up with dwarf planets, we should have dwarf moons. I have no problem demoting them. I mean honestly they're glorified asteroids.
What if. Say, the very beginning of universe was completely, 110% perfectly even horizon, it would have been be static for ever without quantum fluctuations, right? If it was perfectly physical, even relative reality, nothing would change to start to change because everything is perfectly evenly balanced. There would be even no difference in probability of entropy because there's no possibility of no difference. Everything is one, the same.
Isn't it? And isn't everything is one and the same equivalent to nothingness in practice?

This is not a critique but an observation. Despite what could be, should be and may be according to our understanding it is still at this point theory. I understand why some simplify down to the “God made it happen” view as it is mind blowing. Then again the idea of a supreme being who has always existed is just as hard to understand but it is easier for some just to pin the whole mess on that poor dude instead of being open to all possibilities.
Wow. The brain doesn't 'see' the present but constructs it? I kinda get it. Does it work the other way too? Like once upon a time my brain decided that the vehicle I was in was moving too fast for safety and turned my head to engage my mouth to tell the driver to slow down but the accident happened before it could get the words out? or was that the other way around? the accident had started to happen already before my brain decided to say something? 🤔
My theory… the universe could be a 5D singularity with no inside or outside or beginning or end

Nothing, what I think this means is that it is not in the sense of an Absolute Nothing void of ?, but an Absolute Nothing in the sense that the properties that life is created from no longer exist. Furthermore, it would also mean that the many worlds spoken of here, which is probably the correct position to some extent, ends at some point of its own unfathomable size from the quantum to its opposite scope in size as well. However, this Nothing could not be fathomed in its own infinity which would be a poor term to describe its endlessness of an Absolute Nothingness.

I believe emptiness was just particles that don't vibrate much because of sub zero cold and because there's no entropy existing there's what we see is emptiness or black matter but add light, neutrinos electrons causing fission and fusion now we have what the human eye can see and is tangible with the mechanical devices to test and measure at this time.
