How I Beat Writer’s Block With THIS Proven Method
In this video, I'll walk you through my detailed composing process, which I've refined during my time in music school and beyond. Whether you're a fellow composer struggling with creativity or simply curious about the behind-the-scenes of composing, this video is for you.
Here's a sneak peek at what you'll learn:
🔹 Discover the four essential stages of my composing process-Dreaming, Drafting, Defining, and Delivering. Each stage is designed to help you systematically build your piece from initial inspiration to final product.
🔹 I'll share my recent experience composing a piece for a youth choir, detailing how I navigated through each stage and overcame initial struggles.
🔹 Learn how to maintain discipline, meet deadlines, and consistently produce quality work. I'll also share tips on how to create a distraction-free environment, manage your time effectively, and enter the flow state.
🔹 See how I use tools like Dorico for music notation and strategies like text painting to enhance my compositions.
By breaking down my process into manageable steps, I've been able to turn the daunting task of composing into a replicable and enjoyable routine. Whether you're dealing with writer's block or looking for new ways to streamline your creative workflow, this video has something for everyone.
Make sure to check out the linked video by @musicwithdave, which inspired my own process. And don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more insights into the world of composing.
Let’s beat writer’s block together and keep the music flowing! 🎵✨

    the BIGGEST tip i could possibly offer is to constantly replay stuff like the circle of fifths or the names of notes in your head. also if you have perfect pitch you automatically have the chance of getting like a 4 or higher

    03:50 Bach, Mozart, etc, were able to pump out many minutes of music per day. The difference is that they had real training in writing music (not as often claimed, that they were simply geniuses). The training they received (basso continuo, classical improvisation, etc) has been rejected and prohibited by modern academia so composers end up not knowing how to truly write music. Dig down into today's music pedagogy deep enough and this massive loss is revealed. Haddad is massively lucky that he was not scolded for and prohibited from writing music, as most music students usually are ("Just play the notes as written! You are not supposed to change them! You will never write anything that good and that is why we only play what the masters have already written! It is the Canon!", etc).

    • @FreakieFan
      @FreakieFan 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't know where you get the idea from that these things are prohibited in academia now. I'm currently in my final year of composition here at conservatory (in Europe) and I've studied basso continuo, practical harmony at the keyboard, and improvisation for 4 years now as a regular course in my composition curriculum. Also the reason why Bach and Mozart were able to write so much is because there was a socially established contention and style in which composers wrote, and they just followed that (but better than others).

    • @superblondeDotOrg
      @superblondeDotOrg 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@FreakieFan Then you should count yourself tremendously lucky to be in EUROPE. Guaranteed that in the USA these subjects are prohibited. Classical students are prohibited from improvising or even asking about improvising. Jazz students are prohibited from playing music as written (ie classical methodology) because they are mandated to improvise over pop chord notation lead sheets. College Music professors in the USA have stated directly that they do not teach Species Counterpoint because it is 'no longer useful' and they do not teach Figured Bass because 'no one does that anymore'; they state that new music (or exercises) should not use Species Counterpoint. Many colleges do not even have legitimate classical programs and focus only on Jazz which is a half-assed music theory and is taught not on paper, it is taught that students must only "use the ears". Many surveys have found that college professors can not even write simple counterpoint themselves. The textbooks being used do not contain any useful material on basso continuo and most do not even mention the term at all. Classical Music majors who are in the degree program are mandated to only play the pieces as written, and are rewarded only for playing the piece as written, and are punished for any deviation, regardless of whether it is correct basso continuo. UCLA does not even mandate more than 1 year of music theory for music students anymore, and that 1 year is only basic chord grammar, nothing advanced, because apparently UCLA has determined that study of music theory is a waste of time for a musician compared to just mimicking the anthology. There is no way to get ahead in the true nature of music (classical or jazz), with this mentality of music academia today.
