Top 10 BEST Warhammer Models of 2024!
In this video I’ll giving my Top 10 Best Warhammer models of the year for 2024. There have been so many incredible models that have been released this year throughout all of the Games Workshop ranges. From Warhammer 40K and Kill Team to Age of Sigmar, Warhammer Underworlds, The Old World, Horus Heresy, Necromunda and beyond. So It’ll certainly be interesting to see how far off I end up being when the results for Warhammer model of the year are in.
Games Workshop have altered the competition this year so there will be a Best Age of Sigmar Model (and underworlds), Best Wahammer 40k model (with kill team) and Best Warhammer model from the rest of the games that Games Workshop creates. So a little more open this year compared to previous ones, but a lot of incredible models to choose between!
Let me know in the comments section below what your favourite miniature of the year was for 2024 and which you’ll be voting for. I’d love to know!

Nemesis Claw number 1
They really were a fantastic kill team - one I do need to pick up at some point for my CSM army.
WAIT NOW YOU NEED TO ADD FULGRIM(not sure if he counts tho since he was just announced)
Thankfully he is released next year, but That Fulgrim model might have just won 2025 already 🤣 Unbelievably good sculpt by the team - can’t wait to buy him!
I’d wish the aos artists were given a chance to fix the mess that was the blood angels release
It is a shame what happened with the blood angels, I just hope they don’t do the same thing with the Space Wolves rumoured for next year!
It would be nice if Aveline wasn't only playable in ledgends
Very true, didn’t think about that. I’d be tempted to proxy her as a Canoness or Palentine.
My model of the year is the malstrain alpha for necromunda
Thanks for sharing - I must admit, they’re making some fantastic models for necromunda and it’s something I think I need to explore more next year.
Don’t know if the AoS side has better artists or just access to better subject material, but their work is excellent.
100% They might have a little more freedom in the design process potentially, but they truly are doing an exceptional job right now. Hopefully they were part of the Emperor’s Children design team 🤞
H'tark the Unstoppable!
He is a very cool model to be fair - not dived into blood bowl, but I may have to with the number of cool characterful sculpts. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Just the old armor of contempt, let us keep it and I'll trade you whatever model you want for it 😂
😂 Have you games been impacted that much since the changes?
@TheCommandPhase against world eaters... you bet your ass.
Ah that’s a shame, did any of the other changes make much of a difference?
The summerking wins again!
He certainly did! And ended up in my pile of potential in the process 🤣
These models have done some serious damage to my bank account this year haha. Love the Aveline model the most though, it’s just so cool!
Oh bless you - I certainly feel you pain! She is a beautiful model and once I’ve finished building my seraphim she’s next to be built. Have you got and painted her up? Would love to see if you have.
@@TheCommandPhaseyou pain is not me pain. I'm getting a 3d printer
@@TheCommandPhase Haven't painted yet since it took ages to track her down in a store but she is first up in the New Year!
Great video. Definitely agree, with the 1st place minis.
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed the video! I may have picked up my number 1 AoS model the other day while prepping for this as I have -1 self control… 😅 It was a really strong year for models and I’m hoping 2025 can top it! Any favourite models from the year for you?
@TheCommandPhase oh dear haha! Not another army? 😉
Haha - I’ve had the spearhead in the pile of potential for a while, but every time I popped into GW he kept drawing my eye, so had to be grabbed. Might just be a painting project rather than an army but you never know 🤣🤦♂️
Nah! Go Aeldari. The only problem I see for them these days is the fact that the play area has shrunk making it impossible to flank with 1000 pts and up. They are varied, specialised, teach you co-ordination, and how to mitigate your risks. Further, your transport can also sport seriously scary weaponry.
To be fair with the new codex and much needed range refresh coming in the new year it’s certainly a good time to think about starting that army for sure!
damm I cant see myself on any lol
Not sold on the Hypercrypt Legion yet, admittedly I'm a beginner. I started with the previous Ultramarines and Necrons Elite Starter, was thinking of adding the Recruit Edition for the Royal Warden.
I want Ogors and a Son of Bahomet ally! Just a bunch of ugly fat guys crushing the competition is somehow awesome 😂
i am doubdtfull between thousand suns and aeriaki
I guess it depends which models you like the look of the most - both are very psychic and ranged focussed, with the thousand sons being a little more resilient in marine bodies. That being said the Aeldari will be getting their new codex very soon with some really nice new models added to range. I’m sure you’d have a great time with either, but I’d strongly suggest picking the one you like the look of the models the most.
I was really struggling to pick a faction before watching this but adeptus custodes is now easily my pick
Awesome - glad the video was able to help. They are a really cool army, easy to paint and pretty cheap (outside of forgeworld models) - plus the recent change in the balance update makes the bikes a little more exciting to play too. Have a great time collecting and I’d love to see some of your models once you’ve painted them up. 👍
I'm thinking about getting into tabletop after falling in love with the universe from Space Marine 2. It's real decision paralysis with so many cool looking factions. I'm basically between World Eaters and Space Marines. Space Marines feel like the more logical choice because I can tailor an army to any playstyle but World Eaters have such a cool aesthetic and lore.
So you could if you wanted to paint up your space marines as pre-heresy world eaters and think of them as some that remained loyal if you wanted to have the versatility of the Space Marine force. That being said, if you love the world eaters models (which should get a 2nd wave of models in this edition with their codex) then go for them. I’m sure you’d have a great time with either of them - so I’d definitely suggest the army with the models you like the look of the most.
I’m over fifty now and wish I could get into this. Not to play, just buying and painting the armies. But money isn’t my friend these days. So I watch these videos to satisfy myself… slightly. 😢
I mean if you start off slowly and just do a unit or character at a time from start to finish I’m sure it wouldn’t be too bad, compared to buying a huge quantity of models in one go. That and using the second hand market to get models is a great way to save money. If you have a games workshop near you, they often do free sessions to learn to build and paint models to try out and see if you enjoy it.
I'm thinking of buying the Grey Knights combat patrol, they look cool, but I fear that they might be difficult to learn how to play
Honestly I wouldn’t worry too much about that. Their combat patrol is fantastic value for money and as you really enjoy the force you’ll find it easier to learn the rules than one you are indifferent about. They’re pretty resilient too so little mistakes as you learn won’t get punished too hard. Hope that helps 👍
I’m brand new, and I’m stuck between the aeldari and the tau, I want to pick the tau but I know how much of a pain white paint can be, I’ve also have seen so many things on how good the aeldari combat patrol is
To be fair there are a lot of fantastic paint schemes for the tau so if you didn’t want to stick to the white you don’t need to. Infernal brush did a great video on it if you wanted to take a look. The Aeldari are great and they’ll be getting their codex and some nice new models early next year so a great time to pick them up too. I’d honestly pick whichever you prefer the look of the models of the most. Rule of cool always wins 👍
So are all Objectives considered sticky in spearhead? Can you move off an objective and still "own" for purposes of points at the end of your turn?
They are yes 👍
Gonna ask here as well, since at this point I'm probably gonna e-mail GW them selves for clarification. Scouts X with a Dedicated Transport. I put a Scout squad (Scouts 6") in to an Impulsor (M 12"). So how far can the Impulsor move? Does it move up to 6" or 12"? This is still one of the most confusing things in the Core rules for me. Cause the way it's worded is very vague. The part about ending a move more than 9" from any opposing unit makes me assume that it can move up to it's M stat, being 12". Even on small game mode maps like Kill team or Combat patrol (30x44), you would still end up 12" in and 9" away in most cases. But, again, the thing is so vaguely worded, that I never try doing this, just to avoid hour long disputes about core rules. . .
In your example, the scout move is still limited to the amount of distance from the scout squad’s specific scout rule even if they are in a dedicated transport that has a movement characteristic that technically moves further. If the transport also had its own scout move distance that was further I you’d then take the larger value. As the scout move is a different type of movement (pre-game) to that you’d do in your movement phase, it’s separate to the move characteristic on the datasheet of the units. Hope that helps clarify it.
@@TheCommandPhase Yes, thank you. I thought as much, "Scout" being a specific unit ability and not a keyword.
@TheCommandPhase reading through the update with friends, someone pointed out that the update actually clarifies this a lot clearer now.
Thank you for this video.
Glad it was helpful!
40k = 50% of models are space marine with different colors.
I realize this video is old but I found it really helpful both in estimating the rough cost globally of "an army" but also narrowing down what I'd like to be looking at for myself in the Grey Knights that I have selected as my chapter. When you made this video you arrived at £389.00, a direct exchange to US dollars at the time it was made would have been around $493.00. Looking at the composition of the army you covered for the Grey Knights today (using no substitutions) I arrive at a cost in US of roughly $585.75, the bulk of the difference seeming to be the asymmetrical uptick in price for Kaldor Draigo, the Redeemer, Stormraven and Callidus Assassin. When I take the two vehicles out of the equation, I'm at $382.75 for 35 units, or, just under $11 per unit.
All of that to say, I'm not intimidated by the price, but I can already see how this hobby could quickly get out of control.
I plan on getting the introductory set for me and a buddy. He already is set on salamanders because he is obsessed with the video game and has looked into lore and stuff. I, on the other hand, know nothing about the game 😅 ive been looking into stuff nonstop and kinda have an idea on which army i want but I was hoping you could give me some insight. The main one i like is adeptus mechanicus. the problems I found with it are 1. They are one of the most expensive 2. They are difficult to paint, and 3. They are extremely difficult to understand and play correctly. The next one i was thinking of are leagues of votaan. I took a couple quizzes to kinda help me figure out what I want and I got this the most, which made me grow slightly attached to them ngl. The main issue for these i believe is that they are new and don't have have much to work with. Looking at what I've read and watched, they kinda just seem like a weaker space marine. Lastly is dark angels. I don't know much about them ngl. And as i am writing this i completely forgot how they play lol. I should also note that i know someone with a resin printer who does print models, So price shouldn't be too big of a problem (hopefully🤞)
So what I will say to start with is that I would pick the army you like the models the most for as this will keep the enthusiasm to learn both the modelling and gaming side of things a lot easier than ones you aren’t quite as keen on. Each of the factions are fairly well balanced these days so not too much to worry about there. If you like the Ad Mech, I’m sure you’ll be able to figure out a way that works for you to build/play them. They may be a little tougher to build/paint than space marines but I use that as a benchmark of ease. Gameplay wise, you’ll be surprised how quickly you can pick things up through playing. Votann are a great army too - granted I’m a little biased as I collect them. While they may not have the biggest range (still plenty to make a good army), they’re all new models so look fantastic and they should be getting a wave 2 of models soon, I’m hoping for sometime next year with their codex. They certainly aren’t weaker than space marines, just a slightly different (higher toughness, less wounds) profile overall with different strengths and weaknesses. They are a fantastic shooting army, with some nice melee options in the Hearthykyn and Berserkers. Plus use transports a lot too to make up for their slightly slower movement. Dark Angels wise, again another really good army. Utilising a lot of the space marines book with specialist units they have access to in their codex. Deathwing have had a lot more love recently with new models, compared to their ravenwing counterparts. They’re a slightly tougher army than typical marines again, plus their new sculpts look great. Like I said at the start of the message, I’d honestly pick whichever you like the look of the most over everything else. There are cheaper ways to pick up models to make things more budget friendly so try not to think about that aspect if you can. Hope that was some help!
@@TheCommandPhase Thank you! This definitely helped. I'll probably stick with ad mech and I'll keep everything you said in mind. Im excited to start my journey lol
@A_Traffic_Cone you’ll have to let me know how you get on. Look forward to hearing about your progress 👍
@@TheCommandPhase of course! Hopefully in a few months I'll have a small army put together. It's crazy how much 1 small conversation can help. I won't forget you man ✌️
@A_Traffic_Cone I’m glad I was able to help a little. If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out 👍
So can u mix like space wolves and blood Angels and other units or are each of them their own army you have to specifically choose from I know nothing
Unfortunately you can’t mix chapters with their own book/indexes with each other I’m afraid. That being said, if you played Blood Angels or Space wolves, bar a few units that you can’t take (which are explained in their codex supplement/index) you can take a lot of the generic (non chapter specific) units from the Space Marines codex. Hope that helps 👍
The Ironjawz box is great because it only contains their wave 2 models. So someone like me who started the army way back in 1st edition but never looked at it again will recieve all relatively new and shiny models. One sad thing though: You cannot field the army out of the box since the Maw Grunte Boss cannot field infantry unter the 4th edition regiment rules. So you at least have to buy another character so that you can field the box properly under the current rules.
Take a shot every time he describes an army as "elite." Then get someone to drive you to the hospital.
Hi I had a random question. I bought a starter set on Amazon with space marines and tyranids. All the images show the space marines being painted as ultramarines. Do they have to be ultramarines or am I able to make them space wolves instead? If I make them space wolves will it conflict with what the space wolves have available?
So if you head to the Warhammer 40K downloads on the Warhammer community website you can find the Space Wolves index. There are some Space Marine units that you can’t take if you wanted to run the Space Wolves index detachment and later on their codex which I think comes next year (Tactical Squad; Assault Squad; Assault Squad with Jump Packs; Devastator Squad; Command Squad; Apothecary) - but everything from the starter set is good to paint up as Space Wolves should you wish to. The the rumours are there is a big range refresh for the space wolves coming next year, so if that is an army you’re looking to start, I’d personally stick to picking up the units from the Space Marines codex that you want to run. I know it’s a fair way away, but we could be getting new thunderwolves, characters and a fair few other bits which would make for a welcome upgrade from the dated models we have now. That being said if you wanted to have a generic space marines force that you just paint up as space wolves for now, there is nothing stopping you doing that as paint schemes don’t lock you out of anything. It’s only if you wanted to run the Space wolves detachment. Hope that helps.
@ thank you, this helps. Would I have to find a separate book with the stats for space wolves. Also I noticed the set came with what looks like lord Calgar. Can I paint him as a space wolf as well?
You can download those for free on the Warhammer community website under the downloads section for 40K and indexes. www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/downloads/warhammer-40000/ I think in the starter set it’s a terminator captain rather than calgar (he’s got twin power fists) so feel free to paint up as a space wolf. If you wanted to try adding pelts and fur to it with green stuff (loads of tutorials online and fairly easy to do) to add more space wolfly goodness to it. No need to though, only if you’d like to.
I am starting to build black templars army and i would probably create tyranids army
Black templars are a great force - hope you have a great time collecting them 👍
@@TheCommandPhase i kinda changed my mind And i am going to do Tau army
@Bedqs That’s fair enough - hope you enjoy it 🙂
Damn I wanted the sisters because badass women, but I relate to the space marines (all of them), and OrKs WAAAAR
All are great choices, do you have a favourite set of models from the 3?
I'm a TTS player so I'm not sure if my opinion matters lmao....but I've been playing a grand total of 7 days xD. Trying to figure out Chaos space marines. Currently struggling to utilize any units to their actual potential :D
Wanted to start soon was thinking about Spacewolves!
So Space Wolves are rumoured to have a big range refresh next year to a fair number of their units (Thunderwolves, Dreads, Characters and a few bits more). So if this is a faction you’d like to jump into I’d look at the units from the Space Marine codex that could pair up nicely with the Space Wolves. They are a great army and lots of conversion opportunities too with adding runes and pelts and so on to really make your units your own. Hope you have a fantastic time collecting if you do start them 😀
I am a newbie and bought a starter kit says 2022 on box, so I presume older edition than 4th
That would be the 3rd edition starter box - but those models are all good for this current edition. Plus the rules are free online too for the new edition so all good 👍
My brother and I had a chaos space marine force when we were teenagers. I Recently hopped back into the hobby, still wondering which army to pick. currently thinking about Salamanders, for their honorable code and because they value and protect the innocent at all costs... but then I'd also like to get into the astra militarum just to get sly marbo, cause he's too damn funny ahahah he's sort of a comic relief character, made by taking inspiration from chuck norris, rambo and guile; this is how they took inspiration from chuck norris for him: the stories of Sly Marbo's exploits have passed from the Catachan Jungle Fighters on to many other regiments of the Astra Militarum, where he has become something of a mythological figure or the central protagonist of a series of tall tales. The stories of his exploits have grown so outlandish that Astra Militarum command has ordered that repetition of the following anecdotes about Marbo by line troopers is punishable by immediate reassignment as a Gunner Specialist [Plasma], Grade 1. Sly Marbo threw a grenade and killed five Orks. Then it exploded. Sly Marbo poked the Warp right in the Eye of Terror. A Catachan Devil once stung Sly Marbo. After 5 solar days of agonising pain, the Catachan Devil died. Flak Armour wears Sly Marbo for protection. Sly Marbo doesn't have a shadow because he scared it off. When Ambulls go to bed at night, they check their nests for Sly Marbo. The fastest way to a man's heart is with Sly Marbo's blade. Sly Marbo once shot down a Dakkajet by pointing at it with his finger and saying "bang!". Sly Marbo doesn't shower, he takes blood baths. Lord Castellan Ursarkar E. Creed wears Sly Marbo pyjamas. If at first you don't succeed, you're not Sly Marbo. The official name for Exterminatus is Sly Marbo. Sly Marbo beat a Warlord Titan at arm wrestling. Sly Marbo hacked a Tyranid Prime to death with its own scything talon. Sly Marbo can run faster than a Shokkjump Dragsta. Sly Marbo sleeps with a pillow under his gun. The Cicatrix Maledictum was created when Sly Marbo sneezed. The first name engraved in every suit of Adeptus Custodes' armour is Sly Marbo. Sly Marbo does not sleep. He waits... Sly Marbo does not go hunting because "hunting" implies the possibility of failure -- Sly Marbo goes killing. Roboute Guilliman keeps an inspirational pict of Sly Marbo with him at all times. Sly Marbo won a staring contest with a Necron.
Bro forgot the BANEBLADE!
A very difficult task choosing a top 3! I think you mostly nailed it! Very subjective topic of course.
Thanks, glad to hear I did a decent job! Do you have a top 3 for your favourite faction?
My two factions are sister and tyranids, in terms of iconic models I think you nailed it on both! It’s a hard fight between hormagaunts and genestealers for iconic infantry unit for me and I personally think the walking hive tyrant is more iconic than the winged even though I love the model!
