lots of better ways could have ended like he is saved from drowning but ends up in a coma that he will probably never wake from, ruby and everyone carry on the same as they do in the manga so ruby uses pain to keep moving and ends up at tokyo dome but while performing her concert it is on tv in aqua hospital room and that makes him wake up smiling that she got her dream. it also means like how ais songs helped her now she has helped aqua and series ends in same place it all started in hospital room

I really liked oshi no ko, but since the begining last arc everything was so inconsistent im gonna think that ended with Kamiki watching the video of Ai. Its not completely satisfactory but is a hundred times better that this one who throw the development of the characters to the trash.

I think it’s a hard, but heartwarming ending, Aqua’s death caused everyone to completely give up since they came so far because of Aqua, but despite that, they also realized that Aqua’s spirit wouldn’t be happy if they didn’t accept what chances he basically gave them in their final moments Ruby decided to continue being an Idol for Ai and Aqua, while she still lies, she lies to draw out the darkness in others Melt decided to remember how help Aqua was to him, to keep moving forward Taiki decided to come to terms with his deceased family and visited Aqua’s grave Akane did the same thing (Which by the way, the reason why Akane is so serious now is because after Aqua’s death, anything scary is nothing compared to what she gone through) While Kana is still bothered by Aqua’s death, she still keeps him in her heart Miyako decided to honor Aqua’s spirit Gotanda uses Aqua as a reminder to keep moving forward

I found a pretty interesting clue. Akane said that the body was in a good condition thanks to cold water. But nobody even mentioned stab wound. It would be so funny if they burried Hikaru instead of Aqua. After all Akane mistook his once with Hikaru. Nobody really noticed the stab wound or they just didn't mention it in manga?

I like how both the endings of the anime foreshadowed the future of the twins. In first ED (Mephisto) we see Aqua sinking in the ocean to his demise and in the second ED (Burning) we see Ruby running and opening a door, probably towards her future. There are also manga panels pulled straight from them. Mengo really is the GOAT.

This hell of a fraud should've been greatful to him for giving her that role and she repays him with a cold death smh

Re-reading this chapter after the ending really shows how big the narrative shifted. We're literally back to this chapter as the ending. It's not foreshadowing, it's regression.

These endings are really something. First, BNHA's ending (showing that you can literally save the world, and still have to grind your life away at work) and now THIS. I feel conflicted, because this ending is disgustingly beautiful in how realistic it is-but at the same time...feels bad man.

I think you're misinterpreting the ending. Nobody moved on, they just lied about it. All you have in this world are pain and lies. That's the narrative of Oshi no Ko. It's not about healing, it's about never healing.

i know im a bit late but aqua's death still doesnt make sense to me, atleast from a writing standpoint a few chapters prior to chap 164, Aqua told the director he chose to forgive hikaru, because thats what ruby wanted and then suddenly wanted to kill him again? I mean I didnt miss the fact that hikaru was the one who pitted Ai's friend to kill ruby 1-2 chapters later, but that was way too confusing a reason considering ruby is hikaru's daughter, im all for the fact that hikaru was crazy to an extreme, but it was kind of ridiculous he worshipped Ai to the point he'd want to kill his own daughter just so Ai could be THE "top 1 idol"...like...huh? and then aqua just self deletes 💀

For a series with its popularity, this shit deserves scum's wish treatment. I know it's "on purpose" but it's lazy asf Oshi No Ko was pretty limited to begin with, so it makes sense. It's just frustrating knowing this is what I recommended to my friends and family, it's embarrassing with Love Is War in comparison. A complete flop incomparable to AOT's final season, no, you know what? This shit reminds me of Erased where they try to stop the big bad evil (Hikaru in this case), but it's significantly better

Ruby will never be Ai 2.0 because she already knows love and has people around her that care about her as a human being and not as a product of the entertainment industry. She won't get over Aqua's death because that's not how love works, we learn to live with the pain of losing loved ones, but we never get over it or forget about them. Ruby is lying to hide her pain, but she will eventually learn to live with it, she understands Aqua died to protect her life and she isn't going to waste that life he protected with his own.

This comment section is the first place in the entire internet where I find people that understands that Oshi no Ko is a tragedy and they are by no means supposed to have a Disney happy ending, people really lost themselves in their stupid shipping wars.

I feel the ending kinda sucked, it doesn't change anything for Ruby and just puts her in the role of Ai, So, what changed ? Ruby just replaced Ai with the trauma, Atleast Ai had her children, Ruby has no family left now. The ending also does no justice for Aqua , the guy suffered through two shitty lives already , what the hell dude ? Aqua needs a better ending and he was smart enough , why did he have to sacrifice himself to save Ruby ? Cant he find another way to take his revenge ? The ending totally undermines Aqua's character. It makes him look dumb as well, If are dead, who will protect Ruby now if anything happens ? The dead cannot protect anyone. Sensei and Aqua were not these kind of characters , and the ending also fails and ruins the message of the 15 year lie that Ai wanted to convey in the first place. This is such a stupid ending honestly. It really takes a lot of characters out of their personality and exists just for the sake of being an ending. A great 9/10 manga was 1/10 ending.
