Flat Creek Outdoors
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 ก.พ. 2021
Flat Creek Outdoors is all about tractors, firewood, and various projects maintaining our 43 acre property in central Virginia.
We have a growing firewood business and a new Wolfe Ridge commercial splitter acquired in January of 2022 to take us to the next level. Other equipment on the farm includes our Kubota L3901 tractor with a host of attachments including Artillian grapple, pallet forks, tillers, bush hog and more.
We're also starting a Christmas tree farm on our property and cover that on our other TH-cam Channel, Woods Tree Farm.

These Logs Cost Over $5000!
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
After doing some excavation on our property we ended up with a large stack of logs for firewood and other projects. Most of this firewood will get processed into firewood for our growing firewood business, but some of it is nice enough for lumber. With the seasonal timing, I'm focused on splitting soft woods that will dry out this season - especially maple and poplar.

Short on Time - Cut A Little, Split A Little

Focusing little by little on growing my firewood business, I can't be slowed down by a dull chainsaw. I threw a new chain on the Echo CS-590 and sawed a bunch of oak and hickory firewood.
Nothing is Ever As Easy As It Should Be

Got the tractor in the woods today to skid out some standing dead firewood logs. These oak trees have been dead at least one season and there is a lot of good firewood here. The Kubota L3901 did a great job skidding the logs out of the woods where we can buck them up and process into firewood.
This is Holding Back My Firewood Business
มุมมอง 3.2Kปีที่แล้ว
I have been fortunate enough to double my firewood business each of the past few years, and I'm on pace to do that again this year, but there's one big thing holding me back from increasing my production (which has been my biggest bottleneck in growing my business). To increase firewood production, I feel the time has come to quick stacking firewood to season. The firewood stacks look good, but...

Changing the blade on my sawmill for the first time and cutting some poplar logs into 2x4s for future building projects around the farm.
First Attempt Sawing Dimensional Lumber (Woodland Mills HM130 Max)

Our new sawmill, the Woodland Mills HM130 Max, is getting used to start accumulating some dimensional lumber for farm projects like storage buildings.
Everyone Said We Needed One of These
มุมมอง 1.2Kปีที่แล้ว
This has been years in the making and so many people have said we need a sawmill on the property. We've made the investment in the Woodland Mills HM130 Max portable sawmill so we can supply lumber for personal and farm projects. In this video we'll get the sawmill assembled and use it for the first time.

I was dropping some trees for firewood and things got exciting when one tree leaning out over the field decided to be a little difficult.
Firewood Deliveries in the New Truck (Nissan Titan XD)
มุมมอง 1.7Kปีที่แล้ว
Our for the first firewood deliveries in the new truck. The 2018 Nissan Titan XD is a big step up from my Nissan Frontier. I'm able to haul more and make more deliveries in one trip than ever before. For 2023, I'm looking to double my firewood business and having a larger, more capable truck is an important piece to help reach that business goal.
These Logs Need To Disappear
มุมมอง 3.1Kปีที่แล้ว
This pile of firewood logs needs to move along in their firewood journey. In this video I'll buck up a bunch, move some to the splitter, split some, and keep the firewood production moving.
Buyer's Remorse. Sold the F-250. What I Bought Instead.
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
After less than 2 months I got rid of the F-250 and bought a different truck that will be my work truck AND my daily driver. I've been looking for a heavy duty truck for a while and came across an older F-250 with low mileage and tasteful upgrades. I thought it would be perfect, but as it turned out, I hated driving it. The ride was rough and it was too noisy. After some research, I settled in ...
A Great Day To Be In The Woods
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Out collecting firewood in the woods today. I cut up, split and stacked some of a red oak tree that I cut down last year. After cutting wood with the Husqvarna 455 Rancher, it was loaded on the Kubota L3901 and hauled back up to the Wolfe Ridge Pro 28c compact commercial log splitter.

Gotta Make Changes To The Firewood Business
I run a CS-590 and cut 4-5 cords of firewood a season. I noticed your Echo was running a little rich and losing RPM as a result. Either your filter is dirty or you will want to lean out the high speed needle just a bit.
i use it in alberta canada, yes you use more and itseems like a bit more ash but if i had to pay for it its 1\3 the cost of spruce and 1\5 the cost of birch.
I did this several years ago but I called Champion Customer Service and they sent me a replacement hose and threaded connections at no charge. They probably figured before they get sued, they should fix this issue aka recall.
Should never use hose clamps on a hydraulic circuit. Get manufactured and crimped hoses.
Welocome to the world of hydraulics. These things happen on all sorts of hydraulic equipment.
I also use a frontier ( sv long cab 4x4 with the 4.0L.) Bed is 6ft long x 5ft wide x 1.5 ft deep. For a total of 45 cubic feet. Minus the wheel wells is pretty much 43 cubic feet bang on for a face cord.
What a waste. You cant find all the dead ash for camp wood

How did you set your spitter up to automatically extend?

U like the Pittsburgh moisture meter?
RIP.
Not long enough to do any good. Looks like a complete waste of time and money.
That 590 is running too rich. That's holding it back. I have both saws and the 590 stomps the 455.
Too many variables.
Very helpful video. I just purchased this same pole saw. I've only used it once, but am pleased with it so far. :) The title of this video is EXACTLY what I thought after using it. I should have bought this years ago.
How many hps is that pump
How hard was it to remove the lawnmower deck on your tractor?
We use it a lot in TN. Splits easy, dries quick, lights quick, grows like a weed, it's rare when it gets cold enough here to need to burn big oak/hickory logs.
I have the 7 ton and it leaks through the bleeder screw. Is this normal and how do you fix it?
My brother would sell flowers for some dude. I bet the dude got them from a U-Pick. I never thought about that till now. Brother was 14 yo at the time. He got robbed a bunch of times. Dunno why he didn't quit after the first time. Each time he got robbed, he would get robbed again by the guy he was selling flowers for. The guy demanded he pay for the money that got stolen. I bet the guy was responsible, in some way that I don't yet understand, for my brother getting robbed.
A lot people say wood doesn't season in log form but what I found is if your logs are in a sunny spot and are around 12-16 inches diameter out there for a year or 2, its not as wet as people think. I split them recently in June through July and all are registering in the teens now. Only the oak is not ready, on average around 25-28%.
Have you ever cut firewood before? Oh, you’re one of those guys that just like to continually rev the saw.
On my farm ive ran husqvarna up until a week ago. They are plastic junk! The handle broke..... plastic. The the safety stop broke.... plastic. Instead of trying to find ebay replacement parts i put that under powered 455 in the scrap pile where it belongs. Picking up an old rebuilt mcculloch tonight.
I had a few poplar trees blow down last fall and I decided to utilize it as fire wood mixed in with my usual maple. I guess I'll see how it turns out. I do keep my wood much larger than what I see on your video. That looks quite small even for stove wood, no wonder it seems to burn fast. I guess that's what your customers are looking for.
OK ITS FIREWOOD SEASON. FALL 2024 (SEPTEMBER) HERES THE DEAL. DO NOT RUSH THE PROCESS. ANYONE TELLING YOU TO DRY IN 4 MONTHS HAS NO IDEA WHATS GOING ON. IF YOUR WOOD IS FOR AMBIENCE, LISTEN TO THIS DUDE. IF ITS FOR HEAT, LET THE WOOD DRY FOR 2 YEAS FROM THE TIME ITS CUT DOWN. HIS WAY IS LIKE SQUEEZING A CHICKEN TO GET THE EGG FASTER. HIT TWO DRY PIECES TOGETHER, THEY MUST SOUND LIKE BOWLING PINS HITTING TOGETHER. THEN ITS TIME 2 BURN.
Where’d you get the moisture meter ?
I have two inch trash water pump and one rain gun and a 2.5 acre food plot and 200 meters of flexible PVC hose people am using to irrigate. How best can I split it using a connect to use a second rain gun to increase the irrigation radius.

Please i need your contact and how much is this sprinkler? I really need it
Is it possible to get one of those kind of sprinkler in Nigeria, and how much will it cost? Thanks.
Im so glad i have my 272xp and 372xp because these saws are just to underpowered. Once you have power it's hard to go back.
Only way to get a 455 to perform is to convert it to lo pro 16" go up a tooth on the sprocket.. run full chisel or skip tooth
Closer picture please
I just bought the same splitter from HD. Brought it home and went thru the manual to ensure I started it up correctly. After a few minutes of running I had hydraulic oil spewing out of the refill plug. I called champion customer service and they said the people that assembled it at HD must’ve put too much oil in it. There was maybe a cup and a half of oil that came out. Oil level on the eye glass was a little over half so I figured it made sense. After a few minutes I look at the level after it cooled down for about 15 minutes and it looked low. I added some oil and it ran fine. After splitting wood for about 45 minutes it makes a whistling noise when the blade returns. Only when it returns. Not sure what going on. I figure I will drain all the oil out and replace with fresh oil and filter to correct levels according to manual.
Ash borers are taking out our oaks and ash here in a real big way.... Took down a couple 30 inchers this spring.
Just because the logs are dry doesn't mean it's seasoned.
What does that even mean. If it’s under 20% you’re good to go.
Dude, you shouldn't be comparing saws if you don't know what you're doing. To be fair, you should have a brand new chain of the same type on each saw. The difference you're seeing in the amount and distance of chips being being thrown is due to differences between the chains (wear and sharpness & height of the rakers). I love my CS-590 and think it's a great deal for $400, but I can';t tell ya anything about the Husky, 'cause I've never had one (I almost did buy a Rancher..but opted for the Echo instead, mainly due to it being a much better value).
Use PEX fittings on the hoses....................
Why not use a water reel?
Do you dry the wood first or sell a freshly cut one?
replace the trash pump's pump head . or i wonder if you can just replace the impeller? it is kind of hard just finding just pump heads though..
you don't have a foot valve?? get one, so the water does not drain out of the suction hose.
When my dad sold a truck load of wood in the early 80s he sold it for $20 a truck load, now that i seen how much i can get i need to cut up the oak behind my house
need a water reel
The chain you showed pictured was not a low kickback chain, it did not have the extra long guide bar in between the links of cutter teeth
Right now I am looking at the Cub Cadet ZTS 2 60" with the steering wheel, my main concern are the spindles being made to cheap, I know with the steering wheel it will hold slopes and hills. Thanks for your review.
Maybe in the Sahara Desert.

Did you ever test the soil again to see uf the buckwheat did improve it?
I had some clamp on forks that kept coming off.
