Turkish coffee is so underwhelming and flavourless, it's never freshly roasted, hence the disappointment. Also, the coffee is meant to be drank after breakfast. That's the reason the Turkish word for breakfast is 'kahvaltı' or, under the coffee. Really, it is generally reserved as an after meal beverage, although countless cups will be served in meetings throughout the day when guests arrive, or management calls the team together. It's pronounced 'lah-ma-june' and it's meant to be rolled up after adding the greens and lemon squeeze. In the same way New Yorkers fold their pizza slices, unconventional to outsiders but tradition for residents, this is how Turks enjoy it. Also, pide, pronounced 'pee-deh', is really the Turkish version of pizza but taken from the Georgians. Pizza is actually Persian, btw, 'borrowed' by the Italians. The dough balls are called lokma (lohk-ma) and are often given away freely on the streets by vendors using mobile cooking and serving stations all throughout the country. I'm not sure if it is just smart marketing, or if it has been the tradition for genrations. Either way, the people love it. It is closer to the Indian treat gulab jamun than a donut hole. Kunefe (koon-efeh) is one of those treasured desserts that Turks are very particular about. There are only a handful of places in the country that have the best reputation for this treat. It can be quite hit or miss, depending on location. Lastly, those appetisers are known as mezze (pl. mezzeler). Tourists must be careful about selecting these, since they add up and before you know it, they are more expensive than the rest of the meal! I have had mezze that is more expensive than an entree, to give some perspective. Turkish food is pretty decent and not at all pretentious. Many foods advertised as Greek in the US are actually Turkish and this is a point of contentious pride amongst the Turks. Of course the lines blur a bit, due to the geography of what was once Greece and is now Turkey (or, Türkiye, as the world is meant to refer), but many of these foods are found in numerous countries. Hummus is a perfect example of something that is distinctly not Turkish, but is often found on menus at restaurants that cater to tourists that probably assume it is.

If you return to Trier you should check out the Roman Museum. It has a amazing artifacts and a model of Trier as it was at the Roman times.

I'm so glad you were able to enjoy a few days there! It is impressive that you got to see a grizzly bear as well! After having worked there for a late summer/early fall stint, and having seen no bears the entire time, it is a testament to their behavior. You were right to assert that two days is not enough to enjoy what the park has to offer. One week to 10 days would be my recommended length of stay. I also think guided tours have come a long way since my time there in 1981, and that even though pricey, they are probably well worth it.

@@rubberbandm2067 I think you could spend an entire year here and not get bored, something to see around every bend. A guided tour is probably a good idea. 👍 Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. We appreciate your support!!!
