The back mask message at the start of the song was addressing the backlash against Christian rock at the time accusing it of devil worship. God created music not the devil. It's never what. It's always "how". The back message is Greg asking: "Why are you lookin' for the devil for when you oughta be lookin' for the Lord?" In other words, why are you trying to look for fire when there's no smoke. FYI. Pop, hip hop, country, amd even false praise amd worship have confirmed the devil can infiltrate all music. Petra gets their name from the city in Jordan of the same name which also signifies Jesus as The Rock. Petra is literally the first amd greatest Christian rock band as old as Kiss and also respected in secular circles. "Petra" is also Greek for "The Rock".

I didn't much care for any of them, TBH. But i loved the format you two presented them in. For a spectacularly unbelievable rendition of this song, check out Dan Vasc. While it's not heavy metal instrumentally, his vocals are definitely in the realm of the cadence, power, PASSION, authenticity, that defines metal. He is a Metal Singer, singing Amazing Grace. I've been listening to it every day ever since he released it last Easter, & still love it to pieces. I hope you get a chance to listen to it.

Even in his 70's, John Schlitt amazes us. John was the one who inspired my favorite singer, Dan Vasc, to become a singer. Imagine Dan's total joy when John accepted a collab with Dan doing the Beyond Belief song. (Schlitt was in his 70's & still rockin it!!). Look for Dan Vasc, Beyond Belief. For a full and complete understanding of this music, you have to understand the times and the backgrounds of the people making the music. The whole Jesus movement was a very unique time. Young people were people giving up on drugs, sex, and Rock and Roll for answers to the problems of modern life and discovering Jesus and the promise of Salvation. Not their parents religion with rules and dress codes, but more of a hippy love movement. Free love without the sexual promiscuity.
