Why does this sound a eerily similar to “banks of the Nile” and “the girl I left behind me/Brighton camp”
Oh wow.. up north in my own country.. english song.. this refers to a time when the north WAS a separate country.. this song pre-dates England, I think..
ò
I think the tune has a Cornish origin but somebody out there may know more.
Does anyone here watch Black Butler because whenever I hear this I’m thinking of the lyrics. Tom was a piper son.
The song without context: John gets brutally beaten The song with context: "Hey guys! Here's a tutorial on how to make home-brewed ale."

Why are us English hiding our musical heritage. I am sure many people given good church leadership and music like this would return to our Christian heritage. End all this woke and PC rubbish.
When the English are replaced who will care for the music of our ancestors?
Ironically, the trees in the picture chosen as the background of this video appear to be beeches.

Is this appropriate for kids to sing at a school function? The kids are aged 14 years old.

Long have I wished to hear an English folk song. I want to hear more about old and storied England.
It's folks song?
Brother or sister, bless you for standing up for our ethnic culture! God be praised and may He watch over us patriots!
Funfact, Idk if this is commented in the same way by the english like in the spanish and french references that i know but basically this "invasion" was more a war with the weather than with the english because Felipe II never organize a perfect time to do this invasion, he only send it to hell confident of the power of the armada and well there is nothing worst that weather in england soo the armada was destroyed by the sea and the storms plus other technical problems and finally when they arrive in the invasion spot well they were destroyed by the english, the case was soo strange and akward that Felipe says in his defence something like "i sent the army to fight people , not elements" and in part is true, in a more logical cense the spanish will destroy them in any case because Spain by the time was the 1st power in Europe and Americas plus Asia and Africa with portugal and the head of Catholicism, the miracle get too far at the point that the English get confident and Elizabeth I try to invade Spain and cause the independence of Portugal with the "Contra-armada Inglesa"(English Armada) which welll it has a similar destiny like the Spanish. Obviously this is the hispanic perspective, if someone can add something(welll this video is 2y ago but nah)
That song is sung by my friend Ian Giles. It's quite well known in folk circles. You really should credit him For this performance which was recorded on their dime.

The thing about this song that is most amazing is that the melody is original to the song and that it is like Beowulf, as it can also be found in only one manuscript.
I think if you speak German, Dutch and English like me you are going to love this song.
I got here from Sharpe's "Over the hills and far away" and my own interest in English folk music, but I'm glad this "Black Butler" anime exposed more people to English folk music. These types of music honestly deserve more attention and exposure.
