    Unfortunately the Tamiya kit doesn't regularly come with Cartograf decals, only that special boxing which is not available. Tamiya's kit is still pretty good, but at least for me there's no going back building a less detailed kit now that we have Eduard's offering. I have enough Eduard plastic to build 15 kits, I should start the first batch in the near future. The OOB interior detail that modern Eduard, Arma Hobby, Clear Prop etc 1/72 kits offer is something that I appreciate & enjoy.

    • @TV-ez4md
      @TV-ez4md 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It is one thing that is not the best in Tamiya kits normally is the Tamiya decals. There is Eduard decals in this boxing thoug. Eduard decals can be a little iffy too. The detail in Tamiya is a bit less, but I guess Tamiya is easier to build. I have a ton of aftermarket for Tamiya kit to match/exceed Eduard interior details.. But let's see how those goes together.. Good luck with your Eduard builds!

    Interesting! I may be wrong but I think the rivet heads on the Mustang were cut off and it was smoothed over with putty. If so then the Tamiya would be more accurate.

      It was done on the wings only as in Eduard kit, but I'm not 100% sure. Wings were painted with metal color after putty and fuselage was bare metal.

    Apples vs. Oranges, since Academy is a C and Meng is an E. Regardless, both of them suffer from very serious inaccuracies that are to numerous to mention. The only real positive thing I can say about Meng is that, along with Tamiya on their 1/48 F-4B, they are the only company in history to capture the subtle bulge around the rear cockpit area (don’t argue with me that it’s not there, I have the factory drawings to prove it). ZM also missed that detail. But Meng’s windscreen center panel is completely the wrong shape (it looks like an F-14), the weld bead detail on the keel is beyond comical (you can barely feel it with your finger on the real thing), and it has panel lines that don’t exist on the real thing. Academy’s kit is a comedy of errors from nose to tail. Nobody is going to mistake either of them for a 727 or a Spitfire, but they both leave a LOT to be desired if you want an accurate F-4 model.

    Excellent work! If I got into model building I would end up broke and homeless. I was a skateboarder for 20 years, surfer for 9, and dropped more money than I should’ve on those sport hobbies. I had to give up both after I was wounded for the third and final time during my 5th combat tour. I struggled to find a hobby to cover down. I started fishing and ever since then I’ve dropped thousands and thousands of dollars on fishing gear every year. If I took up model making I’d spend every cent I made on it. I need an accountant 😂

    Good video, nice comparison. I would like to add just one minor observation and it is with regard to assembly process. I love both kits, but Meng - just a bit more than Academy. Just because of the fact that according to the Academy's assembly manual one has to install main landing gear almost at the very beginning of the assembly process! Even before priming the aircraft. That really kills me because when you reach the middle of the road (assembly) half of the landing gear would break off... Academy F-4N kit has plastic parts of three different colors for unknown to me reason.) While assembling I had a strong feeling that different colors glued in different way, I had to use different glues. Meng does not have problems like that, building it was a very pleasant adventure.) Thanks for video!

Follow up video about how Phantoms went together etc. can also be found from: th-cam.com/video/su_0OVrtACI/w-d-xo.html In my F-4C there also were multicoloured parts, but I didn't find it different to glue from grey to white to black. I don't like that you have to put the landing gear on early either. I built my Academy in that way that the landing gear was put on at the end. It only needed some sanding, you can watch it in my build video.

      I agree with you with the photo etch in unnessecery parts. I wonder why there must be photo etch parts for slat parts for example. But I like photo etch harnesses though and I think every kit should have those out of the box.

    The clear prop I'll be getting because it has a Selfridge Air National Guard version which is 10 miles away from me.

      When you have some personal connections for example like that it is always very nice.

    Fantastic build and looks great!! 👌. Was very enjoyable following this build along. Some wholly ridiculous commentary below about it being too dirty/weathered. Says who? It is entirely the gift of the modeler - there is no requirement to adhere to constraints real or imagined. This is the wonderful thing about the hobby. I say put your money where your mouths are and crank out a model as skillfully and creatively made as this.

      Thank you, I 'm glad you liked my model and the video! There are always some haters, I guess. Look some rediculous comments in my Hellenic Phantom and how it is overweathered... I try to make my models quite true to the real with some artistic license of course as these are just model kits made for fun. Marines birds seemes to have quite diry and this particular is end of Skyhawk career. I couldn't find dirty pictures of this plane, so I used reference from other Marines birds and weathered this accordingly.

    Love it! Excellent build! Do you think there's enough space to run wires for 1mm or 2mm LEDs in the nav lights and HUD? I want to build mine in-flight!

      Thanks, I'm glad you liked my Scooter! I guess thin wires could be threaded there or some fibre optic cable. But If I would build one in flying pose I would perhaps use Hasegawa kit as there are many seams to take care of if you close the nose and hatches in this kit..

    Can this be built in a flying pose?

      There was not option for fyling pose in the instructions, but I can't see why not.

    Rivets details are way overscaled on the MF, this is something I don't like.

      @TV-ez4md หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those rivets are a bit heavy and I understand if it puts you off. But luckily there is this Hasegawa kit too with no rivets
